Historical pictures to see accompanying the tour

What an honor to be a part of Kamaka Pili's first official tour with his new company Now and Then Tours! Through his knowledge of Hawaiian history and all of his research through the years, he shares the honest perspective of what Hawaii is through the eyes of a Native Hawaiian. This is not your regular tour - this is a tour with real information, real perspective and historical photographs to accompany the tour giving you a visual step back in time to what Hawaii was and what it is today. The tour is a 3-hour walk and stop tour. Kamaka is very mindful about moving through the areas his tour focuses on and then stopping under shady spots to talk about topics in more depth. Kamaka speaks at a good, relaxed pace that everyone can appreciate. He genuinely wants to share what he knows about Hawaiian history and culture with the hopes that real information will pervade and continue. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water, snack and maybe something to sit on that's portable like a towel or foldable seat. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour from beginning to end, and I look forward to more tours with Kamaka! Mahalo nui loa!

My husband and I were fortunate to be among Kamaka's "guinea pigs" on his walking tour along the Ala Wai Canal.

The admission to the museum was pricey, even for Kama'aina, so we opted to get the Family Membership instead. The membership was for 2 adults and up to 4 kids, and also has discounts for other exhibits. After a quick sweep through the museum, and a wary observation of the flight simulator, the grandson decided it was time to eat. I got the Blue Angels Burger and he got the kids hot dog meal. I'd say the prices were reasonable, considering how much takeout and restaurant food costs these days. The burger was fat as hell and the dog wasn't Costco sized but definitely satisfied the kid. I didn't get pics of the food because I was too enthralled over the size of the patty! We spent the day also visiting the Mighty Mo, the Virtual Reality tour, and gift shop shopping also.

In my opinion the Aviation Museum was one of the cooler stops on our trip. I really enjoyed all the different types of planes and carriers they had on display. We also ate Lunch at the Cafe in the Aviation Museum and the food was delicious! The bus picked us up from the USS Missouri and dropped us off at the Aviation Museum, there was a short line to check in at the front desk of the museum before you could enter the inside portion of the museum. They had a flight simulator inside the internal museum as well as a gift shop and restaurant. The Hangar still had the original bullet holes in the glass from the Pearl Harbor attack which was a really neat part of history to be able see. They also have a section where they are restoring some planes and helicopter parts. My favorite thing they had was this wood paneled plane in the hangar. They also had some old Military trucks out front of the hangar that were really cool. I highly recommend visiting the Aviation Museum while at Pearl Harbor.

A massive rock…read morefoundation is the remnant of a sacred rock temple/platform that would have been important to Hawaiian chiefs for hundreds of years. Faded plaques near the site tell pieces of the story. The construction of the temple was supposedly by mythical people named "menehunes", who could build such temples overnight. The original temple would have measured a massive 140 x 170 feet and had walls 30 feet high. Construction is mind boggling, indeed. My math figures that over a million rocks were carried to the site. The Heiau was most likely used to oversee agricultural fields and fish ponds below by the chief or kahuna. Kailua (the town below) was once an agricultural capital on Oahu. In later years, the Heiau may have been used to oversee war efforts. The address is the parking lot of a YMCA. Go around the building to find the site. There is no admission, just a request to not remove any of the sacred stones. There are no amenities. The site could stand renovation of plaques. There are several benches under large shade trees to sit and think about Hawaiian ancestors that would have used the site. Worth a short visit if near Kailua. I was moved by the wondrous effort to build such a site.

Seamus was a very knowledgeable guide - very approachable and fun to hang out with. He knew the trail very well and carefully guided us over the more slippery areas. One should definitely be prepared to get muddy and wet on this tour - I actually felt relieved that it was raining because there are lots of changes in the terrain and sunny/hot weather may have been too much. Seamus will say the trail is okay for children and elderly, but I don't believe it is. Might be a pain. I wanted to get a little rugged this trip, so it was perfect for me. The waterfall at the end was gorgeous - Seamus didn't rush us at all. We were unable to do the beach due to the weather, but Seamus took us around the island and showed us turtle beach, which was lovely because we got to see multiple sea turtles! We stopped at a local woodworker's shop for gifts which was a nice touch - always prefer the mom and pop places to the cheap junk you get in touristy shops. Pickup and drop-off were seamless. Easily one of my highlights this trip and have already recommended to a friend who will be in the area soon. Thanks Seamus!

It was a bummer BUT Seamus and Sandy truly made our day such a BLAST! We could tell that Seamus truly loves his career. We learned and saw so much about the history, culture and people of Hawaii! We look forward to when we can return to Hawaii and book another trip with Seamus and Sandy!!!!! They also had lots of good snacks (chips, fruit, drinks, spam musubi), and even a bucket of fresh water for a post-snorkel shower! The sandbar was incredible. The highlight of our trip was taking the Segway tour in Kailua! We've been to Hawaii an number of times and decided that this time we were going to do something different, and this tour hit the mark for sure! At first we almost jokingly thought we would be such dorks riding around on Segway's but it was super fun and we loved the awesome helmets we got to wear as well. To start, we got a quick 10 min. training and by the end we were riding like pros. The Segway was super intuitive so no one felt awkward or unsafe. Within minutes we were zipping around the parking lot and tearing it up on the dirt paths on the tour. Our guides took pictures of us along the way, and videos, and sent us home with a DVD with all those goodies on it so we could remember the tour. Along the tour we also stopped as several beach spots and they were AMAZING. We returned the next day to hang out on the beach and had a blast. This is something that we loved and I would recommend it for sure. I'm guessing we'll be back next time we visit Oahu!
