    Mokoli'i Island/Chinaman's Hat
    Nicole D.

My sister and I rented a kayak from Active Oahu and received some really great knowledge, a quick language lesson, and a lot of guidance. Mario and Rob provided amazing customer service for the entire experience! The price was great and they helped us load the kayak on the car (plus foam pads and straps), provided some suggestions, and then helped us unload on the return. We kayaked out to Mokoli'i Island, which was fantastic. Assuming a guided tour would have been even better! Would highly recommend this company for either a rental or a tour--you're getting quality, experience, and local knowledge--can't be beat!

We rented kayaks and e-bikes from Active Oahu Tours and really enjoyed our adventure kayaking from beautiful Lanikai Beach to Mokulua Island. My son enjoyed taking a dip in the Queen's bath. Michael the owner was super nice! He personally guided us on the e-bikes towing the kayaks through the neighborhood to the beach. We were impressed with his customer service. Michael and his staff are so friendly and helpful. We found that Active Oahu Tours had the best pricing. We would definitely support his business again!

We were looking for an adventurous excursion while visiting Oahu, and stumbled upon the half day kayak tour to the Kaneohe Sandbar with Active Oahu Tours. When we arrived at the shop, Michael was great. He's knowledgeable about the area, helped us load up the kayak, gave us everything we needed for our adventure (kayak, oars, snorkel gear, and life jackets), and then gave us all the info on the paddle out to the Sandbar. He even showed us the satellite images our phones with the map and everything. It was a tough paddle out with the rain and windy conditions that day, but we had a blast! Once we got out to the Sandbar, we saw tons of turtles and an eel. It was mid-tide around 10am-ish, so the water was up to my mid thigh (I'm 5'0 for reference). We had so much fun on our kayak adventure and swimming around the Sandbar. Definitely an awesome memory from this year's visit to Oahu.

Our family was visiting Kauai and Oahu, and the consensus was this was our favorite activity! Kyle and Jacks were amazing guides and shared some history and interesting facts about the sights around us. The experience went beyond our expectations. We e-biked through town to the beach, kayaked to the Mokulua Islands, hiked on one of the islands, took a dip in the "Queen's bath," snorkeled where we saw one of the largest turtles we've ever seen, and then kayaked back. Afterwards we were treated to delicious poke bowls and fresh pineapple. Truly an unforgettable experience! We highly recommend Active Oahu tours!

These folks came through for us on short notice when our pre-arranged rental crapped out! They were easy going and friendly. Would highly recommend, and will use again.

Awesome folks & beautiful view! We've been tandem kayaking before, but not in a couple years, so the guys were able to go over everything easily and very nicely! We had also hit traffic due to an accident on H3 that morning, which delayed us enough to miss about 30 minutes of our reservation, but they reached out to us vis text and we were able to relay what was going on efficiently. We never explicitly asked if we could be comped the time, because none of our misfortune was their fault, but we were more than able to paddle out to the island, swim around, climb, and paddle back well with even less than 3 full hours! To end the excursion, we were offered some chilled Aloha-Maids and some friendly banter. Whether you're a tourist, kanaka, or somewhere in between, I definitely recommend these guys for your next rental, they are very accommodating, kind, and affordable! We booked for a last minute excursion the night before we went, and we still had great service and a great time!

This was such a cool paddling and hiking experience! We didn't do a tour but we did rent kayaks. Booking online is easy. PRO TIP #1: make sure to indicate if you want life vests in the Comments portion of your online booking form! Signing the liability waiver was also online. Easy and convenient! Our delivery guy Brad texted us the day of with instructions for pickup. Super convenient. We did Chinaman's Hat, so he brought our kayaks to Kualoa Beach Park. He parked on the side of the road and set up the kayaks on the grass for us. My partner and I launched our kayak from the beach area just in front of the truck. Then we paddled to Chinaman's Hat, which took us less than 30 minutes. The Chinaman's Hat hike was steep and lots of dirt and rocks. PRO TIP #2: wear tabis! There are lots of rocks on shore and going up the mountain! The view at the top of the mountain if you choose to go was perfect! You can see the shoreline perfectly. Then drop off was easy. The delivery guy waited until we brought the kayaks back which was convenient since we wanted to leave before our reservation ended at 4:00pm. Mahalo Active Tours O'ahu! We'll definitely rent with you folks again soon!

Wonderful experience!! It well exceeded my expectations. When we arrived they were ready for us with the kayaks out on the grass. They provided us with a laminated map of a recommended route to kayak to the island. The map also had good information on it about the island. This was a bonus in my opinion because it was not something I expected to get. At the end of the trip, we returned the kayaks and map with ease. They were waiting for us. I will DEFINITELY book with them again. Thank you so much!!!

We had so much fun renting a kayak and hiking up Chinaman hat! The tour kept getting pushed back due to high winds but he was very good at texting us and letting us know and being flexible for when we can reschedule. He met us right on the beach and gave us advice for how to access the trail. I would recommend

Review for Windward Water Sports 33 Hoolai St, Kailua, HI…read more96734 Owner/Instructor: Jeff Tobias On August 31, I contacted Windward Water Sports, owned and operated by Jeff Tobias, regarding a kayak rental. Since it was a Sunday and most other rental businesses were closed, we reluctantly went with this company -- a decision I sincerely regret. From the outset, the experience was chaotic and unprofessional. Calling ahead yielded little useful information; staff were unclear, unresponsive, and seemingly uninterested in helping. We were forced to book online due to the lack of timely or reliable communication. Upon arrival, we were issued kayaks and life vests that were in poor, unsafe condition. The life jackets were tattered, worn out, and looked completely unmaintained -- a major safety red flag. It's clear that this business does not prioritize safety or equipment standards. There was no proper safety briefing, and we received no warnings about the unfavorable weather or ocean conditions. The water that day was rough, choppy, and unsafe -- especially for first-time kayakers. No one at Windward Water Sports made any attempt to reschedule us or even disclose these conditions. A responsible and ethical business would have recognized the risk and acted accordingly. The parking at the launch site was disorganized and overcrowded, costing us nearly an hour of our already limited rental window. What should have been a 20-minute paddle to the snorkeling area took over 90 minutes due to the dangerous wave activity. Once we arrived, visibility in the water was zero -- snorkeling was completely out of the question. To make matters worse, on the return trip, one person in our group capsized and could not reboard their kayak without assistance -- a terrifying experience that further reflects the lack of proper safety measures, briefing, or equipment quality. After this ordeal, I requested a partial refund, understanding that we used the kayaks briefly. I was met with a flat denial. The justification? "Business has been bad." That is not a valid excuse. It is completely unacceptable to prioritize your financial struggles over the safety, experience, and basic rights of your customers. At this point, given the unsafe conditions, defective equipment, and the lack of disclosure or professionalism, I am demanding a full refund. That is the only reasonable and ethical course of action. Jeff Tobias needs to do the right thing and issue a full refund immediately. This wasn't just a poor experience -- it was negligent, unsafe, and unethical. I will be filing complaints with relevant consumer protection agencies and posting this review across all major platforms to warn others. Avoid Windward Water Sports. Your safety and your money are worth more.

We called day of to confirm we are able to go to the sand bar on a Sunday. He had a few kayaks left and suggested we reserve it ASAP. We showed up at 10:15 to get our 2 tandem kayaks. Jeff and another employee helped us load it onto the top of our Nissan Altima, taught us how to load it, and told us where to park to get to the sand bar. We were off within 15 minutes. The kayaks are a lot heavier than I expected. They mounted them with ease but it was much harder for us to do on our own. It isn't hard in terms of the order to do everything or how to do it, but it was hard just because it is heavy. Overall I'd rent from here again as long as you have strong people to carry the kayaks. The rental for Kaneohe sand bar must be a full day rental (we used about 4.5 hours but would have felt rushed to get it back in 4 hours). It includes an anchor as well. It was $75 per tandem kayak + tax for us.

This is serious stuff - Registration to join the club (there is a limit) begins in March, and practice for the regatta season season starts in April. Crews run from girls and boys 12 year olds to men and women's "masters" (50 & over). The regatta season runs June through July, and then there are the long distance races. All I know is the first day of practice for Men's Novice B (for the guys who've never paddled/raced), the coaches were already giving a spiel on how Lanikai goes out to win every race, practices are mandatory, and 5:30 practice start times mean you are out on the canoes at 5:30, not gaggling around getting on the beach. For more "recreational" or laid back atmosphere, you may want to join another club ... Having said all that - I can't imagine a better place to be outrigger canoe paddling. LCC practices take place on Lanikai beach right off the Moks. Some days the water is clear and you can see straight down about 10-15 feet to the coral and spot the occassional sea turtle. Each UTV has enough room for up to 6 people I believe. We paid $162.79 per person. They make you arrive 45 min beforehand but we showed up 25 mins beforehand and it was fine. You check in with the folks behind the counter and then they'll lead you to the area with the numbered table benches. They still made us wait for the group before us to leave before we even could line up by those tables. Once you check in, they give you a neck scarf (which you can keep) and try on helmets and goggles. You can bring your own goggles or wear sunglasses too. They make you sign waivers and also check your IDs if you're driving. Each time slot has up to 10 groups and you drive in a line, stopping at about 3-4 stops. Our tour guides were awesome and very knowledgeable in telling us facts about the different film stops. I'm a big movie/ TV show fan so it was really cool seeing some of these places in person! They had infamous sets from Jurassic World, Jumanji, King Kong, etc. They gave us plenty of time to check out some of the stops and take pictures. They're also really nice and offered to take multiple pics for us, including one with a big dinosaur in the background (they carry a dinosaur toy for these pics lol). Make sure you book in advance because they fill up the time slots quick! You will get dirty from the UTV drive so I recommend wearing something that you don't mind getting messy. Also bring a mask or wear their neck scarf so you don't breathe in the dust. At the beginning of the tour, they take your picture and then sell printed copy as a souvenir at the end for $20. They have a food court, gift shop, and bathrooms inside. There's also plenty of parking which is a plus!

The night we went there were 2 musicians playing great music and taking requests. One even had a trombone! There are lounge couches, high tops and picnic style tables, some indoor, some outdoor under a tent. Nice local art on walls. We loved the craft cocktails especially the Old Fashioned. The tasting board of their different blends was great too! Taco night was some darn good home cooking ! Carlitos is a family run business and you can tell they really care about the food. We had the pork tacos and the pork was amazing! The refried beans were some of the best we ever had. This distillery is fun for couples, families, and groups of friends. There are also some games around for little kids, who were hanging in the outdoor tent. Definitely worth a visit !
