They did not even apologize for their miscommunication or offer any consolation, they just pushed me to do it because the retainer is necessary to maintain your teeth. I would not recommend. First of all, ignore the first and only other review for this place. Dr. May has not been at this…read morelocation in a couple years and it is primarily ran by Dr. Paventy. I would tell people to consider all other options before using Dr. Paventy's services. I lived in Newport for several years and had two girls that needed braces. I agreed to both of my children getting braces but staggering when they put them on so my oldest child could show my youngest child what to expect. I ended up losing my job right before I had planned on my youngest getting started. I was assured that since I still had insurance coverage that month, the full 50% of the service would be paid by insurance. That was not even close to correct. My insurance made a single payment, my insurance went away, and I was on the hook for 97% of the service. I would not have started the braces if I had known I was going to need to cover almost all of it myself. I was assured several times that would not be the case and when I brought this up, I was told it was essentially too bad that I wasn't told about this situation correctly but they had already started and there was nothing that was going to be done but for me to pay it all. Both of my daughters had issues with the braces and brackets that were put on. They were breaking constantly, despite being on diets consisting of mashed potatoes. My wife would call and say the brackets are broken and are cutting the gums of my youngest and we were informed that Dr. Paventy wouldn't be back in Newport for almost a week. Dr. Paventy works at two other locations (Corvallis and Albany) and isn't in Newport very often. One time my children were in on a Thursday, their braces had issues that night, we called on Friday and was told we would have to wait until the following Thursday to be seen. It was causing my daughter pain so I asked if anyone there could see her. We were told no. We called Dr. Paventy directly and he was rude and said we could go into my daughter's mouth and fix it ourselves. Why? Wasn't this why I was paying a huge sum of money to have experts deal with this? Do I get reimbursed for doing his job for him? Dr. Paventy finally said he could call someone in but he really didn't want to. I don't care what he "wants to do", I'm paying for a service and was told if there were issues to call and he would fix them. That was only true until he had a contract to get our money. Finally we moved about an hour and a half away from Newport. The closest place he worked at to us was in Corvallis. Now when things broke we would have to drive an hour to get to him and he wasn't even the one doing the work! He had his assistants doing it which is probably why things kept breaking on Jell-O. I asked if we could have repairs done in Eugene but since Dr. Paventy uses uncommon materials, there are only a couple orthodontists that will work it and they charge $100 service fees so that I can get repairs done on braces I am already paying way too much for. The final straw was when I told Dr. Paventy we are switching to another orthodontist in the Eugene area. I couldn't keep taking time off of work to drive to Corvallis -- and only on certain days when he was in Corvallis -- every time pieces broke. My youngest child had only had braces for 2 months. The plan was for a year's worth of service for about $1,800.00 (my daughter would need to get a full set of braces two years later if we followed the plan all the way through). Dr. Paventy would not release any of my child's information unless he was paid a bulk sum that was almost $1,600.00 of the original amount. I had to pay 88% of the total amount for only 2 months of service! So for the original placement of the braces and for essentially two check-ups (which doesn't include the multitude of visits to fix broken parts). My other daughter was the same thing, about 85% had to be completely paid even though we were only 1 year into a 3 year service plan for her. I disputed, explained that it didn't make sense that the final 10 months of the plan was charging me $200 while the first two months took up the initial $1,600 and he wouldn't hear of it. I ended up getting a new orthodontist in Eugene who didn't like Dr. Paventy's plan for my children and immediately changed both of them to different plans. Life is so much better since there is actual support for the patients and cheap and uncommon parts aren't used that break every other day. I would not recommend Dr. Paventy at all. Once he has you signed up for your money he disappears and you are on your own. And if you try to leave, you have to pay almost the entire amount for work that was never done. Definitely find another option.
