I bought a bikini wax on Groupon because it was such a good price. I was very nervous about getting this done at a salon that was new to me. The 23rd Avenue was the location I chose. I was not greeted in a professional manner which did not set the stage for a good first impression. The waxing was out of this world painful (not my first experience at this). I felt like I was being "handled" very roughly by the lady doing the waxing. Needless to say I left the salon with straggling hair everywhere covered by oil. It honestly hurt to walk. That day I had blood on the tips of my pores I was severely bruised which lasted for several days. Nice! So bottom line is........never again.....you get what you pay for! Ouch! read more

I went here with a Groupon for a Brazillian wax. This is the first one I've ever gotten so yes it was EXTREMELY painful. She was very nice and didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. That was probably the only thing that was good. I was sore for about 2-3 days, I had HORRIBLE bruising all along my bikini line and she didn't wax everything. There were stray hairs and she didn't wax very low. From what I've heard, EVERYTHING gets waxed. Maybe it was because I was cursing that she didn't finish but still. Usually I don't like to give a bad review on just one visit, but sometimes you can't help it. I had a groupon for five brazilian waxes for half the price of ONE. So CHEAP! But I definitely got the quality I paid for... Needless to say, after one visit and such a BAD job and uncomfortable experience (uncomfortable customer service wise, that is. I knew it wasn't going to be a walk in the park pain-wise!) I decided not to return for my other four waxes. Not worth it. I was greeted with confusion about my appointment... walked in on after 30 seconds of being left in the room... given unwarranted advice throughout the process... and left without an apology for the bad job they did. To be fair, I did not try any other services there, so not judging those ones. A tip for first timers in the brazilian department... there shouldn't be any bruising, any pain exceeding 24 hours, or any hair left behind. If you get that, you know it's terrible quality, and was probably also more painful than it had to be! Sometimes I think some people do waxing with absolutely no training. I went here first time for a cut and eyebrows threading and tinting. The hairdresser did a pretty awful and lazy job on my hair, the cut was ok, but the way she cut them, I was so disappointed. I asked for a one length below shoulder length hair, she did. She wet my hair, comb it out and she used just razor to cut my hair And DONE. She didn't even used a scissors for cutting hair. Never had any experience for a cut and used razor to my hair. So the cut was fast and easy for her using razor for $25 charge!!! I called Nu Look Salon & Spa this morning as I live close and needed to have my legs waxed. When I asked if they had time to help me out, they said, "Sure, in half an hour? Does that work?" I asked if an hour was fine and they said yes. Once I got there I was escorted into the room right away. I explained that this was my first time getting my legs waxed. The woman was very nice and very clean/well put-together. She guided me through the process, asked how I learned about Nu Look and also let me know that they sometimes had deals on GroupOn. I thought that was great - most places would keep that hush-hush as they don't make as much from GroupOns. Overall I had a great experience. Worst experience at the Ellerslie salon.. No professionalism. I went to salon for a hair cut but the attitude of the lady was so unwelcoming. After reading the reviews on nu look salon I still decided to check it out for myself. Nu look could benefit from some customer service training and by hiring experienced staff or proper apprenticeships. It's a shame that only a few people are able to ruin such a seemingly wonderful salon. I've been to nu look twice. Both times I had my eye brows threaded and nails manicured. I was happy both time with those services. The second time I decided to have my hair washed/cut/styled. Wow I swear, DO NOT HAVE YOUR HAIR CUT AT NU LOOK. The young girl who cut my hair butchered it. Cut it into choppy layers with out so much as batting an eye. I had asked for side bangs and even showed her a photo of what I wanted... And left w uneven, thin straight bangs that are so short that I can do nothing to fix them aside from allowing them grow out. The girl didn't even so much as apologize and made it seem as though her butchering my hair was my fault like I was the one w the scissors in my hand. Absolute garbage. Beware of the young girl who works at nu look, she has a name like a birthstone, as a word of caution DO NOT ALLOW THIS GIRL ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR BODY. Disrespectful and inexperienced. When I called the next day to speak to the owner or manager, my call was returned by the lady who ruined my hair all I got was attitude and a promise to fix my bangs "once they grow out". Ya right. The staff is inexperienced and are really very rude along with the managers but the prices of the services provided are cheap (explains the shitty quality). I've been here for waxing twice, the first time I went in, I wasn't greeted and had to ask the receptionist about my appointment, and I was told to take a seat. I was 15 mins early and was told to wait half and hour, I don't even know why and I was finally taken into a horrible smelling room and an Indian lady approached me telling me to change into a towel and I did, and the waxing began, the pain was indescribable, and I was told repeatedly told that I was hairy and that was just really rude and unprofessional of that lady , she wouldn't use another wax strip unless it was filled with hair, like top to bottom just oozing, I'd say 6 wax strips were used, and instead of throwing them out she showed them to me and again reminded me of how "hairy" my legs were, and she slathered my legs with oil while some wax was still present on my legs and told me to leave and also kept complaining about how I was acting like a kid as my pain tolerance wasn't as good and said the following " I would've completed a full body wax if it weren't for your complaining." The worst Salon I've ever seen in my whole life. I was regular customer of them. I used to book an appointment then used to go there. But, today when I went there nobody even bothered to ask for what services I want and why I was there. And there was no one at reception desk. All were busy with their clients. So I waited for half an hour even after taking an appointment I had to wait. Then I saw one Lady was going towards reception Desk. She sat there. So, I told her that I booked an appointment for waxing then she said "I just got free from waxing, and another girl is busy with other client. You sit and wait". The wax was the worst salon experience I have ever had. During the waxing procedure my skin was torn and ripped in two places to the point that I was bleeding excessively. The waxer noticed the bleeding and advised me to put polysporin on the wounds. I was in pain for several days after the wax, to the point where it was very uncomfortable to walk. I called the salon to complain on the day after the appointment and was not allowed to speak to the manager, or leave my phone number to have someone call me back. I have had waxes for years and have never had one turn out so badly. Do not get a wax at this salon until they vastly improve their staff's training!! read more

I went to their location at Ellerslie. As I walked in the staff never greeted me except for the one lady that was came from the back. I asked if they can do a haircut and color and said yes and ask me to have a sit and wait for the guy hair dresser to take a look at my hair and give me the price. I waited 1 hour just to talk to him. I stay cool during that time. When we finally talked and agree with the price for my full hair color and cut, they asked me to sit and prepared me for the color. The guy prepared the color that they are going to use but instead of doing my hair he asked the other lady who looks inexperienced to apply the color to my hair. He ask her to just put the color on my roots and didn't do my full hair. He said that it matches my previous color and it will still be fine. He continue to accept customers mostly men having a hair cut. Lots of customers come and go and 1 hour and 1/2 Im still sitting there waiting my hair to be washed. He didn't bother to checked on me. They were 3 working but I think he is the only one who is trained. The two ladies don't want to take over the work and can't do anything. Finally after showing them that I am starting to get pissed they decided to washed my hair. After washing, I waited another 30 mins to get my haircut!!! I think that guy is racist because from the start that I walked in I felt that he didn't like me because most of their customers are East Indian and they keep talking using their language infront of me. I will never comeback to this salon even it is just 5 minutes drive away from my place. I dont want to wait for 4 hours for just a haircut and a root touch up color!!!! And who make me feel that I am not welcome and not a priority even I was there way before the others. Who will do my hair when no one was there but me!!! I usually go there to get my eyebrows done by Neelam and she never messes up but some other lady did my eyebrows this time and she completely messed up my eyebrows!!!!! she threaded my eyebrows way too far back and completely got rid of my arch. Now i have to spend 5-10 minutes everyday filling in my eyebrows to fix this ladies mistake. I have been there twice. And both the time i experienced the same thing. Last time i went for a hair trimming and once it was done.. she asked me for an extra $10 giving some xyz excuse that she has to work extra on my hair. Today i went for my hair root touch up and she agn asked for extra $15 from what was listed in the price list. As per her my hair needed more attention. Not at all freindly staff. No professionalism. HORRIBLE. STAY AWAY. Don't be fooled. Low prices = bad quality and bad customer service. No stars to be given, if I could. I went to Nu Look Salon to get a trim (nothing special..get the split ends and what not). Lady sat me down and chair, prepped me up, and even wet my hair. Next thing I know, I got left in the chair for a good 15mins, hair wet and dripping, as she had to "finish something". Apparently she had another client at the back and never told me. Another lady asked this guy to cut my hair as it was only a "straight trim". At this point, I tried to keep my cool and just hope not to piss them off so that they wont butcher my hair... wrong. Guy comes to me and asks me to STAND. So I stood thinking he had to fix the chair or something, NO. He starts cutting my hair while I was STANDING. He stops after a few seconds to answer the phone and tend to other customers... I sit back down. After he was done doing his "customer service", he comes back to me and telling me to STAND. At this point he cuts my hair again...but I refused and sat back down. He continues to cut my hair while I sit, but has never adjusted the chair height...Mind you, this whole hair cutting, took more or less than 3 minutes and he rushed to just get me out the door. As I got home, I took a look of my hair... at first glance, it wasn't bad... I turned my back and saw a good chunk of long strands of hair... MISSED. Price you pay does not include blow dryer, and if you want layers, it's an extra $10.00. Customer service is horrible. Rude and I bet you they were talking about me in their own language. read more

The worse haircut i have ever had in my life. They expect you to do a full hair dresser course before going for a simple haircut. So i went there and asked for a simple haircut, by simple i mean nothing fancy. So the lady asked me "what number" so i said number three,thats what i usually ask for. Like i said they expect you to know all the fancy combinations and different styles of haircut. She brings out her machine and mows my hair off, i mean pretty much all my hair completely bald. So very politely i said i did not ask for this. The reply i got was the most unprofessional answer ever. " you should have told me you didn't want a full machine haircut blah blah blah. I mean really Is that how you talk to customers. I went there for a normal simple hair cut and i came out bald. And also a side note her machine was broken and she was using the wrong size blade, but her attitude and the way she talks to customers made me very angry. The worst part is also they MADE me make the full payment. CHEAP IDIOTS. So please pay extra $5 at a different store and get a proper haircut, instead of saving a couple of dollars and ruining you hair. Dont make the mistake i made.
