I went to Nu Waves Salon and Spa because I bought a Groupon for a facial and a massage. When I went in and gave them my name and checked in the girl disappeared for 10 solid minutes. No one asked me if I needed help, no one gave me any updates on my services and I had to stand there awkwardly waiting. When she finally reappeared, she didn't say anything, as in "they are finishing with another client, preparing the room, someone will be right with you". . . nothing. In my mind having a customer, especially someone new, wait for 15 min unattended with no updates or comments is unprofessional and a poor way to run a business. When I got into the room for my massage I noticed stains on the ceiling tiles, there was dusty fake ivy wedged into the corners of the ceiling, the massage therapists personal bag of belongings was in the sink making me feel like she was just stopping by for this service and not a true staff member. Lastly, the flat sheet on the massage table had some stains on it. The room looked like they had a closet that they werent using and said "Hey! We can give massages in there." At that point I almost left. Every massage and/or facial that I have ever had (and i've had many) I have had to fill out forms regarding allergies, previously broken bones, injuries (past and existing) health issues, medications, trouble areas, requests etc. Not only was I not given a form, no one asked me any question, prepared me for anything or explained what they were doing. Additionally, I was rushed from one room to the next with no break and no down time. The massage room and the facial room are right next to where they provide pedicure services so while you are trying to relax in a quiet space there is a lot of loud noise right outside the doors. As a whole the massage was decent, but the woman who gave the facial was extremely rough. I wouldnt say that the services that I received were necessarily bad, but the experience as a whole was not good. I felt very uncomfortable and rushed, and left more tense then when I went in. I think that Nu Waves does a great disservice to real spas by calling themselves "a salon and spa". I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this business for "spa" services to anyone. read more

I went in expecting to do some serious hair therapy for my long locks. I recently decided to start going back to my natural hair color and knew I might need some color correction/highlights or low lights and definitely a cut. I went to Chardonnay and she did such a good job. It turned out she just threw a toning shampoo on and cut off my dead ends and voilá I'm back to my low maintenance beautiful hair I knew I could get!! Great location easy scheduling and there's a food market close by if you're not afraid to venture outside while you've got your hair in foils for some substinence during those long hair appointments!! read more

I had a groupon for a massage and facial. I work until 6pm, so it was nice that they are open late, and I was able to fit in both. Facial with Susan was amazing. She tailored a specific facial to my needs, was very professional, and gave me a few free samples at the end. It was peaceful and I will definitely go back to her for another facial. Massage with Linda wasn't AMAZING, but it was good. I'm thinking since I was her last client, she was a bit tired...but I didn't feel nearly as much pressure as I needed. Yes, it was relaxing, but I won't be going back there for a massage. Front desk was attentive, helpful, and friendly. read more

I have been getting my hair highlighted for 15+ years. I recently moved from Ohio to Pa and have been nervous to find a new stylist and my fear became reality after going to Nu Waves salon. I have circle spots on my head from where the bleach bleed. And others spots where the color started 2in from my head. I wanted an angled bob cut with the back being shorter than the front. The lady just cut my hair straight across. The cut itself only took her maybe 5 minutes. I thought maybe she was taking a break or something not that she was actually done with the cut but nope she quickly threw on some product and blew it dry real fast. I did not say anything about the cut at the time because i thought maybe she wasn't experienced enough to do the cut I wanted and I certainly did not want her cutting any more off my hair than she already had. Once I got home I saw all the color issues and I called the owner she had me come in to look at the issues. She looked at it and said oh yes it definitely has some spots that need fixed and I showed her the picture of the cut it was supposed to be and she agreed it was not done correctly. She told me someone would call me to set something up to get it all fixed. Later I received a call from another stylist saying I needed to come in that day to have her look at it and then another appointment to have it fixed. I explained I was just there and the owner could explain what needed done. She said no I needed to make 2 different appointments. And of course these were all times that I was not available. At this point I had decided I just wanted my money back. I called the owner 2 more times that week and did not receive a call back. 4 days later I get a call from a receptionist wanting my address so they could mail a check to me. I told her I will just stop in and get it she said no we will only mail it. I gave her my address and said ok fine mail it. I paid $180 +$30 tip. I was shocked to find a check for $80. I called the owner and asked why I was only receiving $80 she stated well that's what I decided to give you since you won't come here and have it fixed. As I tried to explain about the time differences with the new stylist she just talked over me and wouldn't let me speak. Definitely will never return to this salon and would never recommend it to anyone. read more

had the facial/massage groupon, which i scheduled separately. i was also given a hard time about scheduling. they had nothing available before the expiration and the first attempt i was essentially hung up on after being told to call the next day when the owner would be in. i put on my nicest phone voice and luckily she agreed to honor to groupon since i called (several weeks!) before the expiration. the facial: i guess this was about par. afterwards my skin felt smooth but looked no different. the woman doing it definitely needs bedside manner tips. she wouldn't really warn me when she was about to touch my face so i flinched every time, eliciting a heavy sigh from her. i never know what to write on the form where it says "why do you want a facial?" or however it's worded--i circled "fine lines." i guess i figured that would get me generic facial treatment. she reads this to me and asks how old i am, and i tell her 28. she literally scoffs and says, "honey just you wait!" but not in a friendly joking way, in a fairly rude way that made me pretty uncomfortable. i'm not used to being mocked by a total stranger. the massage: i've gotten a lot of massages. i love them, i'm almost a connoisseur. this was... bad. like another reviewer says the room is a little sketchy and not overly relaxing or clean looking. my masseuse was a seemingly very nice older lady, not what i'm used to. i start on my back, another new one. she's vaguely touching my limbs with very light strokes. it's not a massage; it's awkward. it goes on forever. i'm mentally begging her to let me turn over so she can work on my back. i'm worried she's wasting all my time doing essentially nothing. i finally turn over and it feels very... unprofessional. for the first time i wonder if she's a masseuse or just a random hair or manicurist covering a shift. almost immediately she's sitting on a stool. as you can imagine, you can't get good leverage and apply pressure sitting down. now this sucks. when she does stand, she's leaning heavily on the table with one hand and just halfheartedly rubbing at my back with the other. with one hand! it's like when a boyfriend or husband is giving you a crap backrub while he watches tv. honestly, i've never experienced anything like it. if you aren't in good enough shape to even remain standing for 60 minutes, then you shouldn't be giving massages. she only works on my back for a little while since so much time was wasted while i was on my other side. i left feeling angry and swindled and definitely very tense, moreso than when i went in. i ended up getting another massage somewhere else the next week. will never be back. read more

When I made appt. to have an adjustment made, I was made to wait at least 30 minutes with an appointment. Stylists explanation was that she didn't know I had an appt, and didn't hear front desk notify her that I was there. I told her I was very unhappy with the experience. I will not be back! read more

I went to Nu Waves because I had a Groupon for Massage and Facial. It was suppose to be a 1.5 hour experience but I was done in an hour including changing clothes twice because they did not know that I was having the facial also. Neither service was good and thy were not very friendly. would not recommend this place. read more

I have been highlighting my hair blonde since I was in the 7th grade and I had the absolute worst experience of my life at Nu Waves with Danielle and another associate. Danielle had been doing my hair for a couple months when one day she decided she didn't feel like doing a partial highlight and insisted on all over color. I had no experience with it and trusted her, thinking it would have a similar effect. She bleached my hair an yellowy platinum blonde. I am still angry that she ever pushed me to bleach my hair in the first place. It required a lot of upkeep and that is where my real issue occurred: one day I came into Nu Waves and Danielle was too busy for my appointment. I was getting a touch up and she had a coworker quickly slather my head and instructed the woman to...PUT ME UNDER THE DRYER. Where I was forgotten. The obvious happened. My scalp was burnt, bleeding, scabbed over, and it fried my hair. And nobody gave a crap because Danielle was busy with her regulars and talking to them about the all the aimless drama in their lives while I, also a "regular", was burned. The woman realized it happened when she rinsed my hair and Danielle didn't even bother to apologize. They didn't act like it mattered and charged me full price. It took all of the scabs a long time to heal and I don't understand why it happened in the first place because if I stylist is overbooked I should be respected enough as a client to be informed. Brides BEWARE. I was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding this past weekend. She used this salon to get the girls' hair and makeup done. It was awful. Not only was there miscommunication about appointment times, the stylists/technicians were extremely rude and unprofessional. The Maid of Honor, the bride's twin sister, asked the makeup artist for the airbrushing (pretty routine and standard when getting makeup done for a wedding). She was told "we don't have time." Mind you, this girl PAID to have her makeup done and was ON TIME for her appointment so why would they not do the airbrushing or say they "didn't have time." The same girl, the Maid of Honor, also asked for fake eyelashes and the technician replied "you don't need them." I'm not a makeup artist but I do know that my friend definitely could have used some thickening up of her eyelashes. My sister and I both had our hair done. My style held to a degree however, my sister's hair fell out within an hour of leaving the salon. (Before pictures were even taken). So we spent a half hour trying to pin it back together after she paid $75 to have it done at this salon. Bottom line, it is a lot of money to have your hair and makeup done for weddings. If you are going to pay that much, you want professional , polite and knowledgeable people doing it. The last thing a bride wants on her wedding day is to have to deal with rude people. read more

I tried a facial via a $40 groupon (up to a $90 value). First they are located inside a super market. 2nd they tack on an additional $10 for extractions (this has nothing to do w/the groupon).. Susan my esthetician never asked me about my skin nor did she look at my skin under the magnifying glass prior to doing any cleansings. Once she started the steam was awful, it didn't feel moist just very HOT and uncomfortable, I spoke up and asked if she could turn it down or something and she said no, to try and put up with it because it's good for this and that? She then started to scrub my face with grapeseed oil scrub? OMG I thought my skin was going to come off the pressure was so intense (pressure being too much for ones face especially with what seemed like a course scrub) and way too fast, then she added a mask that mildly burned, I mentioned this and she brushed off my concern, the sensation did go away, but I could feel my face's desire for moisture at this point, I felt like what she was doing was drying my face, she attempted extractions that were horrible, honestly I don't think she knew what she was doing. She then put an aloe mask? On my skin that was supposed to be calming although my face didn't think so, when she pats your face she does it with too much pressure especially on your eyes. I did not receive the typical neck/shoulder/arm rub down. I only received a hand to elbow rub. Oh and it was very hard to relax when you hear the clipping of nails outside the door, that's where the manicure/pedicure stations are. I went home and threw ice water on my face because it was SO tight and uncomfortable and still the next day my face feels dried out. As you can see I was HIGHLY disappointment and will never go back. I have been getting facials every 3 months for the past 9yrs, I've had a few not so good ones, but this was by far the worst. Now this is my experience, perhaps when you try you will have a better one. read more
