I moved here a couple years ago from out of state and the most stressful thing about moving far from home isn't finding an apartment in a decent neighborhood, or making friends (though both I failed at miserably lol), it's when it comes time for that first haircut and you realize you've only trusted your hair to one person for the last 12 years and they are now 13 hrs away and you've got to find a new stylist. This was one thing I was blessed with good fortune and discovered Nuance. They were originally located off of Rt 9 near a friend I was staying with in Cohoes, and they just happened to move to Malta where I was heading when my apartment finally became available. (2 months late. But I digress-),they were welcoming and I was so lucky to find a stylist on the first try who listened to me about what I wanted, how my hair reacts not only to certain styles but cutting methods (razor-cutting is popular but my hair is a cursed, demon-possessed thing if it's own like the snakes on Medusa and turns into just that ). Not only is the entire staff friendly and pleasurable to interact with, Kelly makes sure I am always happy with everything before I leave. Satisfaction guaranteed, if you get home and don't like it she'll fix it and work with you til you do. She (like her fellow colleagues I've seen with their clients) is knowledgeable and stays on the up-and-up in her skills-I love hearing about the seminars and events she goes to, mostly because I selfishly know it'll work in my favor . She has made great recommendations for my hair that actually worked, and introduced to me the magical (albeit probably witchcraft haha) hair semi-permanent defrizzing process that is a Brazilian Blowout. Anyway, I can't recommend them enough. They're a cozy, smaller group of stylists with great talents and amazing personality. It's almost like hanging out with your gal pals after a hard day at work- they even have wine . They have excellent customer service, whether it was working me in at the last minute because of family coming in from out of town or rescheduling because of my crazy work schedule at times, they have always tried to be accommodating and still friendly and nice about it-which anyone who has been in customer service knows is not the easiest thing to do, amiright?! Anyway, if you're looking for a stylist that makes you feel brand new when you leave instead of looking for a hat and someone else to fix it, I highly recommend the ladies at Nuance. read more

This was the third salon in the area that I've tried having been previously disappointed with the results. It's a cute stand alone salon, extremely clean. I sat with Mia and explained my hair situation, which was the result of one of the worst haircuts I have ever gotten. She came up with a plan and executed it perfectly listening to all of my concerns. She was also able to finalize the cut with some tweaks that we both thought would work and they did. Im not sure where to even begin with this review. On the surface this looks like a modern hair salon with established stylists. The stylist are friendly, but lack any real talent or skill. This Salon works if youre a male looking for a trim or an older lady with short hair who needs a color retouch for her roots. Or Hannah Montana loose curls that were popular in the 2000s. I moved to the area 1.5 years ago from Long Island. It seems like every girl upstate takes 1-3 balayage classes and calls themselves a "specialist" or "expert" in blondes. In this Salon youll find older stylists who use hair techniques popular 20 years ago, and the younger stylists who clearly arent experienced enough to have their own chair based off the one class they took. Words cant explain how badly my Stylist Mia messed up my hair. I went in for a correction and explained thoroughly what I needed and expected. I asked her to do a hair strand test MULTIPLE TIMES. I also asked to see a picture of what she thought she could accomplished in my hair. Didn't get either. After spending 6 hours there I left with worse hair then I walked in with!! THIS IS THE MOST UPSETTING PART. I went into this Salon because I was unhappy with work from another stylist, it wasn't until I walked out of Nuance that I had a mental breakdown in tears because of how bad my hair looked. This was a result of not doing a proper consultation, not being a skilled enough stylist to work on my hair, not listening to clients needs. I was there for 6 hours because she used 10-15 developer when she needed to be using 10 or even 30 in some places. I was charged $200 and left a $40 tip in consideration for the time spent. I left with my hair wet hoping it would look better when it dried. The next day there was clear animosity (I don't know why, I am a customer looking for an issue to be rectified) Mia gave me an hour of her time and said she could not give me any more time, despite the fact I was still not happy. My hair looked better than the first time she worked on it, but it looked almost identical to what I walked in with trying to correct. I told her repeatedly I do not want blonde chunks in the front and for some odd reason that's what she did. If she didn't feel comfortable working on my hair, or that we could accomplish what I wanted - she couldve been honest from the beginning. When I asked for partial refund cause I was not happy she blocked me lol. If youre looking for amazing hair, color correction, or a new look - Stay away from here. An updated salon on the outside, and on the inside ran by outdated and mediocre stylists. The main focus was the hairline, the rest of my hair was already lightened. This makes it harder to find the next stylist, once your hair has been botched. Eventually after I give my hair a break I will have to pay another stylist for a color correction & Balayage. When I called out their clearly shoddy work, I was blocked. Tells you all you need to know, really. Look at their IG I was unsure if the work they were doing is the work being requested my clients, so I didn't want to judge. Having been there and gotten an awful experience, I now know what you see is what you get. If you want to look mediocre this is your spot! If you want to look amazing and get compliments on your beautiful hair, stay away from this silver polished turd vessel. read more

My niece finally was able to travel up to see Julz from WV. Only thing I can say is...WOW!! Julz is known for her Vivids, but the lived in color she gave my niece is absolutely beautiful!! I have been going to Nuance for years because you can sit in any chair in the salon and each member of the team will make you feel like a Queen! Even after moving to South Carolina two years ago, my boyfriend and I still only see Holly and Morgan to get our hair done! Don't get me wrong we tried a few salons in the south but no one compares. At Nuance, the front desk staff is always going above and beyond to make you feel welcome, and then when you sit down with your hairdresser of choice they actually take the time to look through your inspiration pictures and talk to you about your hair goals (I can't stress how important that is). I've never had anything but amazing experiences at Nuance, and I've had everything from dark brown chocolate hair, to balayage, to rose gold hair! read more
