When we reached Castelderg, all we could see were takeaway places that didn't even have a chair to sit on, forget a table. We weren't sure how our B&B would feel about us bringing a takeaway to eat in their dining room (I can't abide the smell of food in the bedroom). Then we suddenly saw this sit down place. We weren't even sure from the lighting if it was open. But we parked and they said they were serving dinner. The menu looked standard, but we were just grateful for a quiet place to sit down and eat. What followed has to be the biggest surprise of this trip foodwise. Red Pepper restaurant served us Michelin quality food, that people would queue up for hours in London! We started with a duck liver pate and a vegetable soup. I ordered a grilled chicken main and we had creme brûlée and vanilla pannacotta for dessert. He asked for a large whisky with hot water, they recommended adding cloves and lemon (free Irish warming cocktail upgrade alert) The bill for all of this was 29£ Yes Twenty Nine Pounds only. We just happened to walk near the Route 66 diner. Since diner food is almost always a good option for us, we stopped to check out the posted menu. As we were reviewing options, the owner happened to be outside. We had some great conversation with her, and she provided fantastic information about the area. We both ordered one of the specials -- the gourmet burger. It was a delicious burger, and the sides were great as well. It was amusing to be in a restaurant with so much Americana during our visit to Ireland, but it was definitely a great stop with yummy food and great conversation.

I personally love their peppered pan fried chicken. Their chicken breast burgers are also a great shout. The food is served in no time at all even on a busy Saturday afternoon. This town isn't the place to be for a delightful Sunday lunch. We had to drive round the back of this place and uphill to park up, as it's double yellow lines all round the front area. The bloke in front of us was just inside the narrow front entrance. He was trying to book a table for tonight. He said two people, then maybe three and within a few moments he has reached an equally uncertain four. It didn't matter to him that he was blocking the entrance nor that we were stood outside as he chopped and changed his mind and despite being cloudy 19c there was a breeze that made standing in short sleeved shirts unpleasant. As I listened to him it crossed my mind that he was just bored and maybe he had no intention of dining here this evening rather just whiling away the hours and why not just ring. There isn't much to do in Enniskillen centre Sunday lunch time. Mind you the time this was taking to arrange he could still be there this evening. We stood outside waiting and waiting as the young lady sat staring at a computer screen. She appeared to be having huge difficulty in completing what should have been a simple and straightforward transaction. We became impatient as it was clear at least that the staffer had no idea how to interrogate the computer reservation system. You'd think she would at least have an iota on availability just a few hours hence on the same day. We could see and hear other staff inside and are sure they saw us to. So we had enough, it was getting chilly in the breeze and they sure weren't that interested in us. So over a year out of work isn't sufficient to focus minds on customers who make pay days. Wow. They appear not to get the fact that they are in the business of hospitality.

However they decimated the salad with lashings of mayo and over-salted the chips. It has a very cool wine cellar vibe going on which makes the whole dinning experience a little better. The menu was small but good and the food was all really good. The staff was friendly and just the right amount of attentive. Since we were traveling a lot when we stopped I was dressed fairly casual and I felt a little underdressed. I would have probably not worn sandals if I was staying someone close and knew a head of time. The staff didn't mind and didn't say anything to me. I think this is a great place to stop for food when visiting the Doors of thrones in Northern Ireland.
