Hidden gem. This was some of the best Italian food we've had in quite some time. - not just in Edmonton but period. The portions are huge but the food itself is clearly made from scratch. I can't sit to try more items on the menu. What's funny is we tried to get reservations somewhere much more high profile and couldn't for weeks, but I truly think Nuovo Bistro's food is likely superior! The service was spectacular as well. We enjoyed chatting with our server. He was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. He even gave us the whole bottle of wine even though we only ordered glasses. The restaurant is cozy but not over the top. Anyone could feel comfortable coming here. We will be back again soon! read more

Came in on our lunch break and just as my previous experience, they did not disappoint! Definitely a hidden gem on 124th street, the owner who is so kind, friendly and even remembered a few of us who have been there before, will make your dining experience a special one. The Aracini balls had a crispy shell, with a creamy and flavourful risotto on the inside. We had a range of pasta dishes and I had the Arrosto Di Barbabietoli salad with chicken, and it was a large portion, with tons of well season chicken, beets and walnuts. Everyone else ordered the Wild Mushroom Gnocchi, the linguine and ravioli. Everyone felt their portions were great and all the pasta was rich and full of flavour! Nuovo Bistro has definitely become my new favourite Italian place in the town. Their pastas are super delicious and already ordered twice in a week because i couldn't resist to try new ones on the menu. I have tried Tagliatelle Florentine, Rigatoni Con Salsiccia and Linguine Aglio e Olio. Be it the Crispiness of Ham and Snap peas in Linguine Aglio e Olio, rich creamy texture of Tagliatelle, or spicy sausages in Rigatoni Con Sasiccia. I honestly had no idea what to expect going into Nuovo. My GF's hair dresser recommended it and I'm up to try pretty much anything restaurant wise so here are. It's super cozy and tight with a completely open kitchen that every table in the place can see. The menu is full scale Italian with every possible classic available as well as a couple items that didn't exactly strike me as Italian but looked equally delicious! We started with buttermilk battered calamari and a classic Caprese salad. The squid were maybe the best I've ever had and I'm a calamari freak. Perfectly fired, not greasy whatsoever and tender. The clincher was this sweet and spicy tomato compote for dipping. Absolutely great! The salad was just meh for me although the little crunchy balls of balsamic vinegar (which I still don't know how they made) were a neat touch. So I mentioned not so Italian entrees and I decided to go for one. Bacon wrapped meatloaf on a bed of mashed potatoes and a port reduction sauce. Holy hell...what a marvellous treat! It was phenomenal...great meatloaf great mash great sauce. Rich beyond belief but I had fasted for the day in anticipation so whatever. My gf's dish was a little less than spectacular but she enjoyed it. A fresh tagliatelle with cherry tomatoes. She felt a little more sauce would have been nice but she still liked it. So we had to have dessert! She ordered the always classic tiramisu...probably the best I've had outside of Italy, and I decided to go with spaghetti with veal meatballs! Lol I couldn't get that option outta my head, probably should of had it before my meatloaf but at least our incredible waitress was impressed with my originality. The meatballs were perfect! I was too full to finish the pasta but it was delicious also. Our service was incredible seeing as our girl was the only girl for the entire restaurant but she was a dynamo! And finally maybe the best part of this place...10 dollar corkage!! Woo hoo! Thank god it was walking distance for us. One of the best Italian meals I've had without any of the pretentious blah's you sometimes see today. Just a classic feast in an amazing space. You will love it...so go already. This is my favorite lunch place in the downtown vicinity. Parking is free and in plentiful around the area. Service is quick. They have sandwiches during lunch time but also their pasta menu. Wow I am impressed that Edmonton has really good Italian food! Mind you, I am only visiting and checking out the city eats along the way. I saw this restaurant when I was visiting the bakery across the street the other day. Now I finally returned to dine here and the food was amazing. The gnocchi was one of the best I have eaten in a long time. The mushroom sauce paired well with the pillowy soft potato dumplings. I really appreciate a restaurant using fresh pasta. The pricing was good for the portion size. I read in a previous review that the pasta is from the Italian Centre shop. I might make a trip there if I stay longer in Edmonton next time. read more

Terrible food terrible service the new owner will crowd you as you try to eat .talk and talk and talk your ear off he cant understand social cues.not to mention the waitress i think her name is laurie felt very uneasy and frustrated .i honestly felt for her cause the new owner failed to have change she had to run out to the pub next door to get change .when she came back she took orders for a 4top and was just so discouraged from grabbing change and i can see she was nervous extremely embarrassed she made a mistake for one of the people she was serving cause of the unprofessionalism due to the new owner...stay away this once beautiful amazing restaurant has lost its charm not to mention there is no wine due to no liquor. We decided to go with something more straightforward we had been meaning to try for Valentine's Day this year, rather than a restaurant with a big special event like we usually do. The food was spectacular. We ordered an assortment of typical Italian essentials - arancini, bruschetta, spaghetti carbonara, prawn linguine. Each was one of the best examples of the fish we've ever had in Edmonton. Sorry Corso, these arancini are a clear cut above. Practically perfection. A staff member was out on holiday so the service was really quite slow. But the one server they had was busting her ass to handle all the duties for every table - about fourteen at peak. Dear management: don't ever put that wonderful girl in that position again. It was cruel. She was marvellous - had a smile on her face, a skip in her step, and was delightful - but was wickedly overtasked. Every misstep was totally excusable in given the circumstance. read more

I ordered the veal cannelloni on Skip and this is just so very good that I had to review it. Flavourful, yet delicate with a generous amount of stuffing and thin, very well cooked pasta. Only been for lunch but the dinner reviews sound wonderful. For lunch it's quiet and the menu is nice. I ordered the beet salad and it was fresh, crisp and sweet. I had it with an Earl Grey, the bar tender kept topping up my tea with hot water but in the end it was another teabag I needed. Weak tea is not for me. The decor was lovely, exposed brick, cool mural on the wall, modern furniture and you can see right into the kitchen. It's a cosy vibe, with bright light from the long windows looking right out onto 124 Street. read more

This may be my newest favourite Italian restaurant in town. We tried it on the recommendation of friends, and were also lucky to find a Groupon for them too. Walked in around 7 on a Friday evening and it was not busy at all. There were three other tables the whole time we were there, which is a shame because it really is a fabulous place that deserves to be busier. Very reasonable prices for wine and food. Pastas average around $17 ish for a large and fresh portion. Highlights of the night were the arancini and the mushroom cream sauce it sat on. If it was socially acceptable, I would have licked the plate clean. Wished there was bread to wipe it up, it was that good. The other standout was the braised octopus pasta. This is the dish you'd give someone who said they didn't like octopus, and you'd instantly conveet them. The texture was amazing - it was as tender as chicken, no rubbery feel at all. It was a plentiful portion in the perfectly cooked spaghetti and a slightly sweet tomato sauce. I'm telling you - try it and your life will be changed. We ended with the flourless chocolate cake and it was good, but didn't blow our minds. It is labeled as a terrine with an orange creme anglaise - it was interesting. Imagine if a Terry's chocolate orange and the creamy inside of a Lindor chocolate formed a soft room temperature ice cream. That's what it was like. Good but not amazing. Our server was very pleasant and the open concept kitchen meant we could watch each dish being made to order. Food came out quickly yet we didn't feel the need to rush. Came here on a quiet Monday night at around 8pm with my boyfriend. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who gave us the run down of the daily specials and took time to explain everything (we had many questions about the different types of noodles and sauces). We ordered the Arancini as a starter, Tagliatelle Florentine and Spaghetti Carbonara as mains, and Tiramisu and Creme Brûlée as dessert. The Arancini had a surprising texture, and the mushroom sauce around it was amazing. The Spaghetti Carbonara could've been better. In my opinion, it lacked sauce (a bit dry) and had way too much bacon, although the noodles were cooked to perfection. The Tagliatelle Florentine was pretty good, with nicely flavoured chicken and lots of yummy sauce surrounding it. Noodles were a little hard for me, but of course that's just a personal preference. Dessert was probably the highlight of our night. The tiramisu was probably the best one I've had in yeg (granted I haven't tried THAT many places). The flavour and texture were a perfect blend. Even after not being able to finish my pasta, I was able to finish this. The creme brûlée was nice and rich, with a surprising sourness from the raspberries. All in all will definitely come back for the dessert and amazing service, and to try some of the other entrees. read more

Went for an early dinner this evening with a friend and had a delicious dinner! Started with mussels in the gorgonzola sauce and arancini. Amazing. The mussels had perfect flavour with a little hint of spice. The arancini was served with a mushroom cream base and just brought all the flavours together. My main was a beet salad and my friend had the octopus pasta. The salad was as expected for beets with goats cheese and walnuts. That pasta though... wow. The octopus was braised and so tender. Just melt in your mouth. The entire dish was fabulous... I was glad we were sharing our dishes. Dessert we had the tiramisu. It's one of my favourites and came out exactly as I wanted: perfect and delicious. Definitely worth stopping by! I'll be back. read more

The food was excellent, we had the Arancini which were cooked perfectly and the mushroom sauce was a great touch. The calamari batter was light and very tasty and the hot sausage was a great complement. I had the carbonara pasta and it's one of the best I had tried. The strength and amount of cheese was perfect and the bacon/pancheta was great. The only reason I didn't give it the 5 starts is because the service was very slow. The girls serving us was pretty good, but slow and she was doing the whole restaurant and drinks by herself and it was 1/2 full. They might need a 2nd server even when is not full. read more
