Easy to find the parking lot but the actual restaurant it quite hidden in the strip-mall complex. Parking is right in of the restaurant. We were asked if we made reservations and then made to feel it was a busy night when he "made room for us". 20% full when we arrived at 5:15PM. 60% full at 6:45PM when we left. Fancy place that would be great for a nice date. Waiter was nice and refilled our waters once. Bread was brought soon after being seated. Nice and fresh with an excessive amount of mini butters. BUT on the bill there was an "Open table" charge of $1 that I had to ask about and he said it was for the bread. Little shocked and disappointed so many other restaurants (Old Spaghetti Factory, Red Lobster, Olive Garden) provide FREE unlimited bread. Also just wish the waiter would have asked if we even wanted bread that costs. Loved that there were hand sanitizers on each table. We ordered the "Allegros famous Caesar salad" as a starter, $13. Waiter offered to split it onto 2 plates to make it less awkward to share which was nice. 9/10. Dressing was 10/10 but some big lettuce stems and big pieces made it awkward to eat. I got the Penne con Asparaci. Looked quite bland but there was a small pool of sauce under the noodle pile. Noodles were cooked well. Sundried tomatoes were plentiful and flavorful. Asparagus was perfectly cooked. This was a half order $18 and it was a Lot of pasta. Can't imagine how big the full order is. Only ate half. Overall, a little bland (sauce was bland) but everything was well cooked and a nice blend of flavors. My mother got the Vegetariana pizza. Only 1 size available so be prepared to share or take leftovers. Decent price, $23. She did eat half a pizza on her own. Crust was great, very thin and perfectly cooked but not burnt. Toppings were very nice but the artichoke hearts were really big and awkward to eat. Personally, would love to see more zucchini/all vegetables evenly on top but overall flavor was good. 9/10. We also got the tiramisu dessert that was recommended, $9. Crème caramel and chocolate cake were also available per the verbal dessert menu. Tiramisu was fine but I would not order again 6/10. Cookie/lady-fingers were very soft/mushy and no texture. Very light mascarpone flavor (I like it slightly stronger). With 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert it worked out to ~$70 for 2 people. Overall, a fine place for Italian food but I would recommend the half orders of pasta and the pizza (I like the crust!). read more

I ordered from here for take-away for the 3rd time for my Birthday no less and this was the worst meal we had. Based on the recommendation by Ricco, we ordered early in the afternoon for a 6:30 pick-up. My elderly Dad went to pick up the order and got there at 6:27, he ended up waiting for nearly a 1/2 hour and when I called to ask why, I was left on hold then given the excuse that the restaurant was busy...well, that's why we ordered ahead of time. After all that they got the orders wrong, the salad had a bunch of brown and old lettuce in it, barely anything other than that, my Chicken Marsala was overcooked as were the noodles for my Dad's Linguini Pescatore. The Desert was dry and mediocre at best. This is NOT the best Italian place in the city. The worst part - my Dad was stuck waiting, the restaurant was packed with no room to manouver between tables and no masks... at a time when daily numbers are grim, well no wonder! Your business (though we tried to support a local place) is not more important than the health and welfare of my family, friends and community. Allegro is a perfect place to grab lunch on the West End. During the day, it has a cafe feel to it, with the food of an Italian bistro. It is quite and quaint over the lunch hours, with career servers that are very attentive. If you like garlic and I mean a LOT of garlic, then order the garlic prawns to start. They are big a juicy and smothered in garlic butter with roasted lemons (which BTW is one of my favourites, I could eat slice after slice of roasted lemon) and there is always a ton of crusty buns on the table to soak up the sauce. The pasta is good and the dishes well thought out. I am a big fan of the Cannelloni, but when they ask you which sauce you want, tell them both! I tried the ziti this time and really liked it. The pasta wasn't homemade, but in Edmonton it rarely is... I am not a big fan of artichoke hearts, so I was surprised when I heard myself order a ziti full of it. Wow, my inner food psychic must have known something, because they were delicious. Still, I am surprised, for the first time in my life I loved artichoke heart. Que choir music and harps, it's a miracle! Oh, I should note the I find the prices a bit steep, a full ziti was $22, however they do half orders of all pasta, and $14 for the dish with was full of chicken, mushroom, sun dried tomatoes and the infamous artichokes was a great deal. Especially considering I couldn't finish it and had enough to wrap up. Oh, and a very nice touch, my server put a crusty bun in with the pasta in the to-go bag. We finished the meal with a tiramisu that was light, airy, and a perfect end to a very nice lunch. read more

The disinterested spacey guy from Cafe Rista told me that I should go to Allegro because they have "very good pasta." I thought since he looked all hipster and trendy, he must know where the local hot spots are. Well, his recommendation wasn't that good. The pasta was OK, but it wasn't great. I ordered the cannelloni which was stuffed with veal, and I chose the tomato marinara sauce to go with it. I was expecting something spectacular, but it was just $22 of mediocre pasta. I sat there picking at my cannelloni for a while wondering if the stuffing was actually veal. I decided after I finished it that it probably was veal. The parmesan they brought out with the pasta was already grated and looked like parmesan that you get from a container at your regular grocery deli. I was hoping for freshly grated parmigiano reggiano, but I wasn't sure what I was getting. Overall, the food was not bad but not worth $22. I found that to be a little steep for pasta at lunch. 16/30 read more

Great intimate restaurant! My husband and I are within walking distance, so that's a big bonus when you want a little or a lot of vino! The staff are amazing and very attentive. I especially love the warm Italian rolls they serve with all meals. Every dish I have ever tried has been perfect. Small menu, so everything is really fresh. This place is always our go to when we have clients or friends from out of town. So far it's been 10 out of 10 for all we have taken there. If you are looking for a special couples place to dine, this is your place. It's a small cozy restaurant with a very welcoming and quiet atmosphere. The servers are kind, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and the food is out of this world. The food is very fresh and flavorful and we found a really nice wine among their offerings. The rolls they serve are baked on site and simply amazing. Linen tablecloths and napkins always are a nice touch. This will definitely be on our list of places to go for a quite dinner for two. read more

This place was recommened to us by a good friend and was a very pleasent place to walk in to. Although a little small, but very big in service. We were greeted with a smile and seated right away. Upon meeting our waiter he was supurb. With taking our orders and getting our drinks was awsome. Our dishes were well presented and most importantly delicious!! With desert also a well tasty treat we were well served, food was great and we all left satified and felt like royality. This place, aside from being simply adorable, is also incredibly tasty! We started the evening with an appetizer--deep fried boccacini cheese smothered in a tomato marinara sauce. It was a great introduction, and the fresh bread and Italian beer that accompanied it didn't hurt either. My husband ordered the Pollo Marsala and I had the Canelloni Di Casa. Both were large portions that unfortunately left no room for dessert. We ended up taking a big amount of it home. Id also love to point out that the service is flawless.
