My mom and I wanted to have a nice dinner out. We came upon Nello's around 6pm and the place looked pretty quiet. We were told there were a bunch of reservations but we could sit at the bar, so we did. We had exceptional service seated at the bar. And as the night went on the place got packed, including the bar. The servers and bartenders were amazing, fun and friendly. Our drink orders were taken. I had a red Allamo Malbec and my mom had a rose. Bother we're great. We ordered a seafood entree with lobster and shrimp and I have the chicken parm. The meals came out quickly. They were hot and delicious. Definitely a place to come to again.... Hubs and I have been coming to Nello's regularly going on 4 years now. The food is consistent, the portions are large, and we always leave with happy tummies. Recently we decided to go and order ONLY new to us items as we tend to stick to mussels, bruschetta, carbonara, and prawns and scallops in a sambouca cream sauce. I'll admit we were nervous to venture from our tried and true favourites but ended up oh so happy that we did! My new favourite here is the chilled broccoli salad! Yep, you read that right! Blanched broccoli immediately chilled in an ice bath and then tossed with olive oil, fresh garlic, and a little salt and pepper served with a lemon wedge. Our server suggested we also try sprinkling a little parm on top. Oh. Em. Gee. Hubs and I were seriously considering ordering a second salad. The crispness of the broccoli, the intensity of the fresh garlic, everything was just heaven! The lemon you squeeze atop yourself really brought the salad to life! The Apollo Alla Panna was cooked to perfection - juicy chicken breast smothered in a cream sauce with broccoli and mushrooms. The dish had an almost smoky taste or quality from the hot pan. It was delish. As a side, we also chose Caesar salad which is to DIE for here. Hubs and I passed on the bread and dessert for this date night as we're about 4 months into maintaining a new lifestyle with lower carbs and higher protein. It was wonderful to see that we can still thoroughly enjoy a meal at one of our our favourite Italian restaurants without detailing from our lifestyle goals. Made reservations 4 days in advance. Made them on line and supplied all the necessary information. Arrived at our scheduled time of 6:00 pm on Saturday to find a sign on the door that said closed private party. They didn't even have the respect for a customer to inform them by email (they had my email) or call our phone number which they also had. 3 members of the party came in from Westlock. Pretty crappy customer service. This experience means I will never go to there restaurant ever. read more

I tried this place out with my mom for her Birthday dinner and we both enjoyed our meals. Nice drink combinations too. Came back with a friend and a Groupon, but I made a mistake about reading the fine print amd they were sincerely gracious when I was paying the bill. It was appreciated. Finally made it here on a business dinner a few weeks back after living in St. Albert for nine years. It won't take me that long to make my way back. A really nice little Italian restaurant in an unassuming strip mall on St. Albert Trail, it doesn't look like much from the outside. But inside it is a cozy little spot with exceptional service. To be honest I wan't overwhelmed with my entree'. I opted for the Beef Tenderloin as I was intrigued that it was sauteed in cognac and olive oil. There were four of us dining, two of us ordered the Beef Tenderloin and the other two ordered the Rack of Lamb. Both of us ordering the Beef Tenderloin ordered ours medium and both of us received them well done. Still tasty, but definitely overdone. The guys that chose this spot RAVED about the Caesar salad here but I found it very average and that it had way too much dressing. The roasted potatoes this was served with were exceptional however. What will bring me back here is the appetizers and wine (as well as the service). We ordered three pounds of mussels to start... first off let me say that I love mussels. And these were literally the best I have ever had that weren't ocean side. Served in a delicious tomato sauce these were simply amazing. We had a house red wine as well (I am no wine connoisseur so couldn't tell you anything other than it was fantastic and alot of it was consumed that evening). The bruschetta was good as well, but damn those mussels are what will bring me back. Can't wait for a date night with Heather where we will stick to mussels and wine! read more

Disappointing experience. Have heard this place was the best Italian for years, finally tried it and it was not the case for us. Family of 4, was over $200, just 4 entrees, 4 pop, and an appetizer. The calamari was horrible, it tasted like it was dusted in corn starch and barely fried, white not golden and crispy. One of us ordered the steak, it wasn't a tenderloin, but likely a sirloin, full of seams, tough. Greasy potatoes & over cooked vegetables, pasta was tasteless. Another ordered fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken, tasteless as well, and the chicken pieces looked boiled, the Pasticcio was the blandest and driest pasta. The chicken Parmesan tasted like it was breaded in stale bread crumbs and the accompanying pasta was watery and tasteless as well. The pasta portions were large but pointless because the doggie bags we took home ended up in the trash because no one wanted them. Disappointed today the least. read more

I don't like to run anyone down...especially Nellos where we used to eat on a very regular basis. But come on Nellos...you can do better! Four of us ate last night and not one of us enjoyed our meals. Food had the flavour of a fast food joint in the mall, chicken portions were tiny, Puttanesca had maybe one ounce of meat maximum and half of that was a piece of fat. this place was an amazing experience to have with the family. the server we had was amazing and so friendly, the food was a little more on the expensive side but the specials everyday are nice and beneficial. the portion sizes were definitely on the larger side and it was a fantastic experience. When I got to the door of this restaurant I was greeted by a couple of signs. One was a hand written note saying, "If you're in a hurry, you're in the wrong place." The other said no hats or muscle shirts. Well, considering the adverse reactions I've been having to my temporarily pink hair, I was wearing a hat. I contemplated whether to leave or just suck it up and walk in there with the pink hair and decided the latter. It isn't especially clear whether you're supposed to seat yourself or wait - there are no signs about that. I waited and was escorted to the bar since I was alone. They had an impressive wine list including port wines anywhere from 10 to 40 years! I was craving angel hair pasta and their cream sauce was good - it tasted like mushrooms a bit though I didn't see any. I decided to try a cappuccino for dessert. Trust me, anywhere that offers a cappuccino, I'm going to try it. Though it wasn't the best I've tasted, it wasn't horrible either. The poor waitress burned her hand making it. It was served in a Ferrari cup which sort of seemed childish in a way. This isn't the place to go if you're looking for cheap eats, either. For my pasta, a beer and a cappuccino my bill came to about $30! read more

Had a Teambuy coupon to use ($30 for $60) so took a friend on a Friday evening to check out the original location (other location is on South side). Took a few wrong turns to find the place but eventually found it. They don't let you make reservations (unless you are a group of 6 or larger) which is weird but when we arrived at 7:15pm, only had to wait a few minutes for them to get a table set up. We decided to split three dishes: 1) Prawns alla Nello's ($21) - 8 prawns and their version of risotto. It's not the typical risotto that you expect but was still good. The prawns were cooked perfectly and presentation of the dish was excellent. 2) Gnocchi dish ($15) - stuffed with potatoes in a cream sauce. Could use something else in this dish to spice it up. A bit to plain. 3) Penne saporito ($22) - penne noodles in a tomato cream sauce with brocolli, chicken breast pieces and parmigiana. 4) Creme brulee ($9) - nice creamy, smooth texture and crunch on the top. Only weird thing is that we both tasted a bit of banana flavour in it. Not sure why they would have put this in - was it on purpose or accident? Anyways, luckily it wasn't overpowering but it was still there lingering in the background. This place is definitely on the more expensive side (most pasta dishes were $20-30) but the amount of food that they give you is huge. We definitely had leftovers to bring back home. As other people have said, service is on the slower side - our waiter was a nice guy but kept on creeping up on us to talk to us/deliver dishes and then was chatting with two girls at another table when we wanted to get the bill. Not sure if their prices are worth what they serving up here but I'd say it's decent at best. Worth a try but not sure if I'll go back anytime soon. read more

Real food made with love. we just enjoyed a great dinner with friends. Tony and his staff made our evening a very enjoyable experience. The starters, bruschetta and calamari, were fantastic followed up with an amazing broccoli salad (a very simple recipe prepared beautifully). The entree, pollo parmigiana was very traditional and super tasty plus a generous portion. The desert of crème brûlée and tiramisu was superb. Our experience tonight easily deserves a 5 star review. It took me way too long, but I finally made it to Nello's. From what I understand, the current owner is the original owner's son... What's better than a family run restaurant!? I made some last minute reservations on a Friday for dinner. Boy does this place ever fill up quickly. It was maybe half full when we arrived, but within 15 minutes, every single table was occupied. Our server was great. Very attentive without being overbearing. At first glance, the prices may seem high. But don't be fooled. You are getting a MOUNTAIN of food for that. Our table of 4 ordered two of the Lobster Taglietelle, 1 Pollo Parmigiana, and 1 Pollo Alla Panna and nobody was disappointed. The Lobster dish came with beautifully cooked lobster tail and huge prawns and scallops. Everyone had leftovers to take home and enjoy over the weekend. Nell's has quickly become my favourite Italian eatery. Every single time I have to order the Carbonara because it's simply the best. The portions here are huge and can easily feed the army of a small country. I've also enjoyed the bruschetta and the housemade caesar salad which might be the best one I have ever had. The Mrs. usually orders something seafood related and raves about the Samba Scallops and Prawn dish. The tiramisu here is outstanding and puts the Olive Garden to shame. See you soon, Nello's. P.S. Four of us for supper Oct 2017 and then second visit Jan 2019. Good food, great service and a nice atmosphere. The place was packed as it usually is Fridays and Sat and the other days reservations are still recommend. It is a small room with a lot of people so it was quite loud and overly warm. We were having so much fun we were probably part of the noise makers. Not the perfect spot for a quiet romantic dinner for two but great for those days when a livelier atmosphere fits better. Calamari, couple of salads for appys, chicken parm, veal Marsala with Penne and spicy tomato sauce, one gnocchi and one order of gluten free pasta. Food was very good. Pasta cooked perfect and the various meats were spot on. One Creme Brule for dessert. All the portions were very large and most had leftovers. Total bill for 4, $200 with no alcohol. Not cheap but about on par for St Albert where most restaurant prices are pretty high due to the outrageous taxes and other costs to operate there. Service was attentive and always there when needed but never intrusive. Great job of serving while being almost invisible. Would definitely go back. read more

This is the best Italian inspired food in greater Edmonton! We have been customers now for several years and have enjoyed getting to know the owners as well as enjoying their food. Down to earth family people, and they really do care about their customers and the community. Suggestions? The Bruschetta is amazing, we also like the Rissoto and Prawns, and my favorite is Pasta Alla Nellos with Gigi Sauce. We have ordered to take out several times now with the COVID crisis and have been very impressed with the care they take to assemble and package our order for maximum safety. Caring and professional is the best description I can think of. And tasty! Why buy fast food when for a few dollars more you can get awesome quality and every family member can order what they like best? This is also a company you can feel good about supporting these days. Enjoyed a really great meal at this unassuming little spot. The combo of excellent food, ridiculous portions and stellar service (shout out to Kimmy!) made for the perfect storm of Italian goodness. I started with the broccoli salad, which was nicely cooked and beautifully seasoned -- a nice light start before the pasta onslaught of Puttanesca. As with the salad, the pasta was cooked well, super-tasty, and the portion was enough for two. That being said, I made it through 3/4 before throwing in the towel. My dinner companion also gave two thumbs-up for her Caesar salad, and for her Shrimp and Scallops main. Coming from Vancouver (aka the city of seafood snobs), we were mildly apprehensive about seafood in St. Albert, but the quality was outstanding. Had a show in my lovable home town of St. Albert and just for kicks checked on trip advisor for the best resto's listed and #2 was Nello's. Wasn't totally in the mood for Italian, but ok let's go. When you walk in this place it looks very cozy, family like indeed. We were quickly seated and got some cocktails to start. Just sitting there looking around at the all the other people there I immediately felt somehow comfortable. There were kids (which I generally despise) old couples, young couples and everyone just seemed so happy. Got some calamari to start. Now the thing they don't tell you when you walk in to Nello's is that the portions are huuuuge! So a 4 pound platter of deep fried squidy goodness shows up and omg sooo good. Came with their homemade marinara sauce which was absolutely gorgeous. All fresh with huge chunks of tomato and basil. Main course baby. My gf ordered a pasta dish that had (not joking) 5 different pastas with enough cheese to block up the entire Eskimo's roster not to mention the two sauces that covered this concoction. By the time she finished it didn't even look like she had made a dent. Good Ukranian lass that she is she packed it all up and now has lunches for a week. I ordered the meatballs, of which I am a sucker for. 3 baseball sized balls show up covered in marinara and parmigiana with like a pound of gluten free pasta. The meatballs were so tender and flavourful, usually meatballs that size are all dried out in the middle and crumble into meat dust. I didn't really need the pasta and later found out the meatball are 3 bucks a piece and can be ordered individually. Kinda wish the waitress would have mentioned that earlier but I'll b ok. Oh btw you get an entire loaf of bread as you sit down. This place is a belts worst nightmare. The entire meal with drinks cost me 100 bucks so your wallet will lose a little weight but nothing crazy. Especially when you consider the portions are crazy large. If you make it out to the burb of St Albert stop by(don't let the sign turn you off it is horrible) You will leave satisfied I assure you. Nello's might not look like too much from the outside, but don't let the strip mall front fool you! Nello's offers traditional Italian dishes, such as veal parmigiana, and healthy portions of pasta! My family came here, and as a group of six, we split an order of 1lb mussels comfortably between us. My main (chicken arrabiata) was well cooked - the pasta was perfectly al dente, and the sauce had the perfect amount of spice. As mentioned, portions are large, so plan to take some home! read more

Nello's is one of my all time favorites. I always make a reservation as it can get quite busy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The ceasar salad is amazing and the portions are generous. With large portions comes a large bill. I typically only go to Nello's when I have a Groupon. The staff are friendly and work very hard to keep up with the busy yet small resturant. Because of this, service can sometimes be slow but the quality of the food is well worth the wait. Kudos! read more
