This place is an absolute disgrace. Nura is not just a bad restaurant it is a racist and humiliating experience waiting to happen. The first time I came here, I was ignored for fifteen full minutes. The waiter, Anthony, walked back and forth to every other table but mine. When I finally asked what was taking so long, he couldn't have cared less. His attitude was uninterested, dismissive, and flat-out insulting. When I told him I was leaving, he didn't apologize, didn't care, just smirked and said "ok, don't worry about it, you don't have to pay for the water." Imagine that level of contempt for a paying customer. A decent manager convinced me to give this place another try. That was my mistake. Last night proved beyond doubt what kind of establishment this is. I asked for a booth. I was told "booths are only for special occasions." On a Tuesday night, three booths sat empty while I was denied. Minutes later, white couples in jeans and t-shirts were seated in those very same booths. My girlfriend and I were dressed up, celebrating, and if anyone fit their so-called "special occasion" requirement, it was us. But we weren't white, so we didn't count. When I brought this up to the manager, she couldn't have been more indifferent. No attempt to fix it. No acknowledgment of how blatantly discriminatory it was. Just another layer of disrespect on top of an already insulting night. This isn't bad service. This is a pattern. This restaurant has a history of treating people of color like second-class customers, and the staff and management clearly think they can get away with it. It is garbage. It is racist. And it deserves to fail. Brooklyn is filled with restaurants run by people who actually respect their guests. Spend your money there. Do not give one cent to Nura. read more

I absolutely loved this place!! The interior was so cute and felt like a great spot to grab a drink. We came here for brunch and got the Bread Basket for the table which was fire with the different spreads/honey butter. For y main, I tried the Eggs Cilbir which was surprisingly very filling. Nura should be a staple on any Greenpoint food crawl. The bread basket alone makes this place an A+. My partner and I made the spontaneous decision of making Nura our date night spot. On a Tuesday night, we were able to squeeze ourselves in a parking spot right in front of the restaurant (score!). There were also a few parking spots a few streets away so parking was not an issue (but not sure how it would be on a Friday night). When we went in, we were quoted a 30 minute wait but were seated in 10. Everyone from the hostess to the servers is personable, bubbly, and knowledgable. Our servers rotated throughout the night but our main two servers made amazing recommendations for drink and food. We ordered two Japanese Curry Mai Tais ,the Dips with the Parker Rolls and Naan, the Green Chorizo Lamb Kofta, the Japanese Sweet Potatoes, and the Heritage Spare Ribs. The bread was baked by the hands of god. The fluffiness of the parker rolls with the buttery sweetness of brioche and subtle savory touch of finishing salt was a divine creation. The naan is somehow crispy and fluffy at the same time and harnessed the flavor of garlic without the actual garlic pieces being on the naan. Paired with the yogurt and hummus dips? Say no more. My favorite was the yogurt dip because it was pleasantly tart, savory, and slightly funky (probably fermented in house). The same yogurt was used as a base for the dipping sauce for the Japanese Sweet Potatoes and the salty and sweet combination was amazing. The Green Chorizo Lamb Kofta was a plate of perfectly tender and unique tasting meatballs paired with tasty cashew crema. The spare ribs are a huge portion. The ribs are so tender that they fall off the bone without much effort. Taste-wise, it wasn't as unique as the other dishes but it was still very good. Washed down with some delicious Japanese Curry Mai Tais, which were very easy to drink, made the lineup an almost perfect meal. It was unfortunate that we were way too full for dessert. The ambiance of this place is unmatched. Imagine a beautiful Soho loft that is furnished with a mix of modern chic touches, boho accents from the greenery, and eclectic prints on the walls. The candle lights and golden lighting make this a romantic and intimate place for a date night, but I can also see this place being a serene getaway for brunch. While I'm trying to curb my restaurant spending, places like Nura make me second guess myself. I would even come back to have drinks and snack on the bread basket, maybe even try dessert. But as reality kicks in and my wallet thins, I may need to delay a second visit until spring. Make no mistake, I'm definitely coming back. read more

Such a nice space, loved the decor so much!! The food is spectacular - one of the best I've had in the area. Can be loosely defined as Indian inspired Mediterranean. The restaurant has a high ceiling and a lot of space, which is atypical for NYC! We really enjoyed the ambiance. We shared the bread basket. One of the three dips was really bad... probably one of the worst dips I've had at a Mediterranean place. It tasted too sweet and like pumpkin. Absolutely to die for! I had a sensational dinner for two at Nura and this has definitely become a fav for me. We started off with the Night Runner and Future Tense (sensational). Their cocktails are crafted so elegantly. The food is shareable, so we got the sweet potatoes, asparagus, and breads/dips. The naan and rolls were so so soft and the spreads were SO flavorful (we particularly loved the spiced carrot and white bean). The asparagus was pretty good as well. But the sweet potatoes... After falling in love with fantastic neighborhood restaurant, Otis, I set my sights on a meal at Nura when I learned the same team was converting an auto-body shop into a restaurant. Like so many restaurants in Williamsburg and Bushwick, the high-ceilinged space has an industrial warehouse feel, and they did a terrific job outfitting the place in plants, comfy seating and a sleek bar in the center to make the whole place feel ultry cozy. Food aside, I'd gladly pick this place as a spot to get drinks at just for the ambience. The menu can best be described as global, although they bill themselves as an American restaurant. You can see a lot of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern influences in the spices used, and I also read that the chef/owner drew from his Indian roots to create some dishes too. The menu seemed all over the place, but I went in with an open mind and left with a satisfied and full belly. There were no weak dishes on the table at my meal, but the one I really want to call out is the 'Breads & Dips'-- the steep price actually got us to order it, because we figured if they are charging $21 for some bread and dips, it better be outstanding-- this methodology doesn't always work, but we were right about this one. The bread basket came with garlic coriander naan and dill parker house rolls, and both easily scooped up the tasty dips, which consisted of a spiced carrot & white bean dip, a spring pea hummus, and house made yogurty. Those names and descriptions don't do them justice, because they were actually transcendent. I also want to call out the prawns, made with aji amarillo, passionfruit, urfa biber, and mezcal. The prawns were large and deliciously smoky-- I only wish they allowed you to order a side or rice or extra bread to scoop up all the sauce. We finished with a sundae made with sunchokes and cardamom ice cream-- our eyes lit up after the first bite...then the second.. and the third and then it was gone. This elevated and fantastic dessert was so good we wished it was bigger or that we ordered two for the table. Cocktails were also excellently made and service was superb. The brunch menu is more limited than their dinner menu, but there was still the bread basket option to share! We had a fantastic dinner at the bar in Nura on a rainy night last night. The space is absolutely beautiful, with huge windows and skylights that offer great natural light even in a rainstorm. The bartender was extremely knowledgable and gave us advice on cocktails; we tried 4 different cocktails and loved all of them. From there came the breads and dips. DO NOT SKIP THIS! They have a tandoor in the back and their fresh made Naan is as good as you'll get in the best London or Mumbai Indian restaurant. The dips were a playful take on peas and carrots (tasted nothing like either, but got their color) which were reminiscent of a well seasoned mediterranean dip. Their rolls were mouth watering with or without dips included. We then got two fantastic mains, the Coconut Crispy Rice and the Za'atar Baby Back Ribs. The crispy rice was a perfect blend of well cooked rice, crunchy bits, and flavorful sauces - the actual crispy rice bits themselves were amazing. The ribs were falling off the bone, perhaps the most tender (while of course not over-cooked) ribs I've ever had, with great flavor. Finally, we stuffed ourselves a bit too much with the Sundae, which had great ice cream and wonderful texture with all the crunchy bits. I ordered the Golden Hour and it was a beautifully crafted drink, although I am a little biased because I adore egg whites in cocktails with a combination of passionfruit. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was ideal as it could have ever been. However, the food is the main point. The Red Curry Pork and Coconut Grits was a good combination but lacked significant spice to bring out much flavour. The garnished cilantro dominated the pallet which was only meant to be a slight addition. I The dish missed a bite that made your mouth crave for more. I found myself in the area this past Sunday after performing music nearby and went on my handy dandy Yelp app to find some grub. I like taking myself on dates so I typed in "romantic date ambiance" and up popped Nura. One of my favorite aunts name is Nora, so I figured this was meant to be and moseyed on over! I'm so glad I did because their food, ambiance, and service is out of this world! While they are located in the heart of Greenpoint/Williamsburg, it certainly doesn't feel like it once you're inside. The ceilings are sky high, the space is massive, the tables are very well spread apart and everyone is super friendly! I chose to sit at the bar, as it's just a little more fun in my opinion when dining alone. Now let's get to the food shall we... I ordered the bread and dip (pita, rolls, assorted hummus, etc), and it was outstanding. When ordering solo, they allow you to order a half-size for half the price, which was perfect for me. For my entre, I got the clams- perfect sauce, large portion, extremely tasty.. so glad I got it! Dessert - Chocolate sundae, served in a bowl for easy eating. Still somehow, I spilled on myself. Beautiful new restaurant run by executive chef Jackie Carnesi, who was previously at Roberta's and is now making some amazing food here. It's one of those restaurants that was converted from a garage, so it has the really nice high ceilings that make it feel very spacious. There's a bar right in the middle with the open kitchen on one side and tables all around it. I tried pretty much everything and it was all excellent, beginning with the must try bread (both the Garlic Coriander Naan and the Parker House Rolls), and all of the small plates and entrees. Definitely try the Green Chorizo Kofta ($17) for a small plate, and for entrees the Roasted Koginut Squash ($23) is a sleeper pick, worth trying even if you aren't vegetarian. For dessert, the Chocolate, Sunchoke, Black Cardamom Ice Cream Sandwich ($13) is the show stopper, but all the other options were amazing too, including the Coconut Sorbet ($6) and the Turkish Delights. read more

Wow. Slow clap, standing ovation, tears in my eyes wow. I have never had a brunch meal in all my years in New York that blew me away the way Nura did. To be honest, I slept on Nura for quite a bit, because their menu at first glance, didn't excite me. The food pictures were misleading, making me think this was another middle eastern/Israeli small plates brunch place that Greenpoint/Williamsburg has enough of, in my opinion. But they had a last minute table for Father's Day. This time I took a better look at the menu and was surprised to see options with subtle and not so subtle Indian undertones. I mean they have a straight up Daal on the menu as a full on entree. The subtle Indian ones are the butter chicken sausage and the jaggery bacon. If you aren't from the Indian subcontinent or know someone from there, there is no way you'd know what jaggery is. Nura, now had my full attention. First of, the space has industrial size ceilings, which is rustic with its exposed beams and insulation and skylight. You can't help but admire the color and design aesthetic, you can tell that there was a lot of thought put into it. There was this incredible earthy feel to the space with the yellow napkins, green water glasses, cane chairs and brown woven bread baskets lining the walls near the kitchen. The light smoke from the cooking rose above creating a beautiful, mystical haze reminiscent of an early morning in rural India. Our food order was kind of a no brainer. The bread basket. You absolutely cannot come to Nura and not have the bread basket. The hype around it is 100% true. It is the greatest bread you will ever have. Then came, the roast pork curry and coconut grits, the butter chicken sausage, the waffles and a side of spicy home fries with harissa sauce. I'm not entirely sure why they claim to be an only American restaurant. In reality, they are equal parts indian, middle eastern and American. The bread basket went down like water. The toast with the pineapple jam and spiced honey butter was as soothing and satisfying as chopin's prelude in e minor. The butter chicken sausage caught me off guard. I didn't know what to expect, but it came out as a spiced chicken sausage with a hollandaise with butter chicken spice sprinkled on it. It came with two runny eggs, collard greens(unnecessary) and a cup of Daal. Daal, is sacred to me. It is a power house dish, and the only Indian comfort food to get me out of a funk and Nura nailed it. This got me thinking, who the heck is the chef? The roast pork curry and grits comes with a runny egg in the middle which was also a marvel. I don't know enough English to describe how beautiful it all was. The waffle was great too but it didn't stand a chance with what we were indulging in already. We got a couple of cocktails which were also forgettable but their best and brightest, which is a non alcoholic green apple, cucumber, dill and lemon juice was ridiculously good. The service was immaculate, I swear I can go on and on. I'm pretty sure no one is reading my review this far down but I CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK. I have been wanting to try this place for a while after seeing someone I follow online rave about it. Maybe I came on the wrong night but this was not it. Overall the food was super salt or very oily. Let's start off with the bread. My friend and I e ordered the bread basket the nann was great would I say it was the best I ever had, no but was it good sure. The bottom of it in the middle was super charred and salty. The other bread was just short salty. My favorite dip was the brownish dip. Next we had the prawns and corn bread. The corn bread was good but still salty, was it the best corn bread I had? Just know I'm not missing thanksgiving. The prawns were so interesting and the best of all the dishes but it still didn't sell me. I thought the sauce was interesting but it didn't make me do my happy food dance. The waiter informed us it had passion fruit and other flavors inside which you couldn't even taste the flavorings. I was more surprised it had passion fruit I wanted to be wowed by that. The dumplings were cold-ish warm. Not my favorite. The lamb chops were like I bit into a super salty brine. The sauce on the lamb chops were so random. Nothing compliments each other or stuck. The best part about the restaurant was the waiter, he was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered every question we had well.
