Without us asking, he brought over extra bread to accompany our lamb tartare. He also gave us complimentary espresso martini shots when we were too full for dessert. We ordered the lamb tartare, French Onion soup, and burger. The lamb tartare was great (especially combined with the salt flakes and sauce, which brought out the lamb flavor in a light way). The French Onion soup was flavorful but light, and the burger (European style) and fries were delicious. The cocktails were interesting. Light brunch fare and great drinks. We visited Recette on a Saturday afternoon for brunch, and it was mostly full. There is limited seating, but both indoor and outdoor tables available. The tables are closely packed, there were fresh flowers at every table, and the floor has a fun black and white pattern. I tried the old fashioned Recette to drink, and the kale and Brussels salad. The old fashioned had a phenomenal blend of flavors. The salad was maybe a bit heavy on the dressing, but the flavors complemented each other well. The portion is small though. Overall, I had a great experience at Recette and would highly recommend them for a light brunch in Brooklyn. read more

After passing by several times, my sis and I decided to have an impromptu happy hour. The interior is decorated with flowers at each table. You're transported to a garden like environment. The staff seemed welcoming as we decided on whether we wanted to sit indoors or out. We shared a cocktail, two HH dishes, an appetizer, and a dessert. Cocktail- Oui, Madamemoiselle is dangerously delicious. It's so palatable and berry tasty. HH dishes - escargot and the steak tartare. Wow I'm impressed. This is the best meal we've had in NYC. The peppersteak was so good. The sauce was perfect with Madagascar green peppercorns in the sauce, which most places skip. Have been here twice and both times were excellent! We got a few bites that were really high quality, also sampled a few different wines just asking to try before ordering which was really nice and servers were super helpful in guiding us on what to order. The man who dropped plates/cleared them was also really really nice, asked if we wanted salt and pepper then did the serving of it, was just smiling and such a pleasant and lovely energy. I would love to give this place higher rating as some dishes were superb, but some fall a little flat. Even though we had a reservation, we were given a choice of sitting on the patio or by the bar. We didn't mind the patio. Each table had a very sad looking plastic tulip in a tiny vase and a tiny candle. I was expecting a little more from the French restaurant. It was a Monday night, so quick to be seated. Pretty busy inside, but nothing crazy. But I think there was only one server/bartender and one helper/food runner. There's the rub. Started with the French onion soup, which was decadent, sumptuous, hot, savory, cheesy. Loved it. Made a mess all down my sweater while trying to slurp every last bite. Other starters: steak tartare, escargot, wild mushroom flatbread, octopus, burrata, kale and fennel salad, Cesar salad, mussels, and more. There is also a selection of cheese and charcuterie. For my main, I had the server's recommendation of steak frites. The frites were hot and crispy. The steak was tender and well charred, but the flavor was mediocre. I wish I had gone with the braised short rib cavatelli or the bright primavera pasta (spaghetti, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, olive oil, garlic). Other mains include mixed mushroom truffle gnocchi, which also looked great, as well as roasted chicken au jus, Branzino, ribeye, and crab cakes. For cocktails I tried the Miss O'Hara, made with passion fruit puree, tequila, mescal, lime juice, and Himalayan salt. Probably one of my favorites. Very flavorful and refreshing. The rising sun, made with vodka, triple sec, white cranberry, lavender, and a hibiscus infused ice ball wasn't bad, but was one of two things: lacking flavor and excitement, or was a minimalist drink made for those looking more for a spirit forward drink with fewer bells and whistles. The three shades of green, made with cucumber, gin, chartreuse, and lemon juice, was a light palate cleanser to close out the night. The meal was fine. But the restaurant needs more staffing. Nothing against the server/bartender and the other staffer helping--they were trying their best. But management, take note. I would come back and try the food and drink again, but the service was so slow, I would hesitate to return. And again, I visited on a Monday night. read more

We kicked things off with the Miss O'Hara and Jardin cocktails. Both were delicious, but the Jardin really stood out with its subtle kick. Honestly, all of the appetizers were amazing. It was my first time trying Steak Tartare and Burgundy Escargots--both unique, flavorful, and prepared with care. But the Wild Mushroom Flatbread stole the show for me--rich, earthy, and perfectly balanced. For the main course, I had the Braised Short Rib Cavatelli--10/10. Stopped by for brunch with my brother this afternoon. We chose to sit inside despite no AC but we figured it was better than sitting outside in the sun. We were seated quickly and the waitress took our orders without delay. Surprised that the table water we were served didn't come with ice, especially since it was a relatively warm day. This is probably more of a 4.5 than a real 5. With that said I think Recette is a great restaurant. When we went they still had holiday decor which made it super cozy. We went for my husband's birthday dinner and it was also restaurant week. Nothing from the selected restaurant week menu really appealed to us so we ended up sharing appetizers and entrées The appetizers I'd give more of 4.1/2 and the entrées were really 4.8/9. We shared the kale and fennel salad and heirloom tomato burrata. I looove burrata so I wish this was a little creamier but it was great to pair with the salad. The salad was too sour and a little overpowering. For entrées we got were the streak frites and the beef bourguignon. The beef bourguignon was delicious and the fries were crunchy. Came to Recette for a birthday dinner with friends and it proved to be a perfect choice with its charming interior and chill ambiance conducive to easy conversation. We ordered the charred octopus, pesto burrata, kale and fennel salad, roasted chicken au jus, mixed mushroom truffle gnocchi, braised short rib cavatelli, and the cardamom panna cotta, and all were excellent (the chicken was a bit drier than we'd have liked but we suspect that was because it stayed a little too long beneath the heat lamp).
