I just went in yesterday for an examination for myself & daughter. The doctor is super friendly! He is very talkative, friendly & makes you feel very comfortable! Dr. Shea is the best. He is the first, and only, person to fit me with contact lenses on the first visit in 50 years. Great comfort and vision. He tells you like it is and has a great sense of humor. Five years ago my wife had a tragic stroke and lost all of her vision except for the right hemisphere in her right eye. No vision in the left eye. So no peripheral vision at all on the left side. Right hemesphere vision at only about 20/100. So she is legally blind. Four Ophthalmologists have told her there is nothing that can help her vision. She was examined by an ophthalmologist's onsite technician in Laguna Hills stating, no help possible. Recently, while I was with Dr Shea for my second yearly exam, I asked if he thought there was anything that could be done for my wife. She had not been able to read any magazines, newspapers or most importantly letters and email from her mother, who is 97 years old, since the stroke. He said, "Let's try." What a great attitude! Taking unscheduled time for her, in his very busy office, he began his analysis. In about 30 minutes he said he thought he could make it possible for her to read her mother's email and letters. Also maybe assist in distance vision a little. After we picked up her new glasses and got home, she sat down and immediately started reading Westways magazine! What a great sight that was. She can also read information from the television, computer and email from our iPhone. Also her distance vision is better. Thank You Dr Shea, you have changed her life! In need of a new pair of glasses, I thought I should give local business a try. Dr. Shea was very outgoing and pleasant but, I was very disappointed in the results. After 5 days and $335 I received glasses that were no where near the right (distance) prescription. The Dr.'s staff (wife) said to wear them for a couple of days so my eyes could adjust! I was unable to read street signs, etc.. In my line of business it is imperative to have accurate vision. After 36 hrs. I couldn't wear them and drive safely. I returned them assuming they were ground wrong, or something. Dr. Shea re-examined my eyes and the new prescription was different then the previous one. He suggested that maybe I was diabetic! New lenses were ordered on Friday and I was told that it would be a week as I insisted on Anti Reflective treatment ( an additional $60) and that was a lengthy process (48 hrs). I then went to my physician for a check up due to the diabetes scare. My health checked out fine. Three days later I was informed that my glasses were ready! I picked them up and that night I realized they were not A.R,. treated! I went back again and even the office staff said they could tell they weren't treated. Back they went again! This time I question the "30 Day Guaranty" and stated that if they aren't correct this time I just want my $395 back and I would go somewhere else. The staff said there is no money back guaranty. I asked to see the Guaranty and she pointed to a 1" high piece of tape affixed to a file cabinet with a hand printed statement " "There is no refund, but exchange only on goods sold". I was then handed a 2 1/2' x 6 1/2 in, piece of crudely hand cut paper spelling out (in very poor grammar and part of it Whited Out) the "Our warranties" details. I don't think it would stand up to a legal challenge. I took the newest lenses and left, They are better but, still not correct! Can't see clearly near or far! But, they do have a little Anti Glare. Other than being badly scratched, my four year old glasses provide better vision. In 25 years of wearing glasses I have never had such problems with any of the optometrist or ophthalmologists I have seen. I GIVE UP! Buyer Beware! read more

Very happy with the service I had at Nuview. They fit me in right away for a last minute appointment. The staff was friendly, professional, patient, and respectful. They answered all of my questions, volunteered the total costs right up front before the exam started, and offered me copies of my prescriptions for both contacts and eyeglasses in case I wanted to shop elsewhere for the best deals before committing to buying from them. When I considered buying contacts on site just before leaving, the staff even encouraged me to take my time, try out the new pair I had just been given for a day or so to see if I really liked them before committing to buying a year's supply. Wow! Having dealt with some less honest optometrists in the past, some of whom threw in hidden charges, this honesty and respect was such a fantastic change. Kudos to the staff. There is a very nice selection of frames, and the office is clean and roomy. I also liked the fish tanks. Dr. Shea is awesome. He is so friendly and upbeat. I could tell he really cared about helping me understand everything he was doing and what my options were. He answered tons of questions and took his time with me. Other pluses for the exam itself: he used a machine that does the glaucoma test without the unnerving *puff* that blows in your eye. He also used a new light machine (it looks like a light saber) that allows him to see deep into the eyes without needing to dilate the pupils. It all was super easy, efficient, and effective. I had researched online--including on Yelp--before trying out a new eye doctor (having recently moved and not wanting to drive all the way to Long Beach to see the former one). Based only on reviews, this place wasn't my first choice initially (it was my third), but the after phoning the first two--one of which didn't take my insurance, despite being listed as one of their providers, the other not having an appointment open for weeks--I am really happy with this outcome. The professionalism, friendliness, and honesty here will bring me back again. Thank you Nuview! UPDATE July 2017: I've continued to have excellent service at Nuview Optometric Center. Dr. Shea is patient, funny, professional, and does a great job explaining things at all levels of detail (I ask a lot of questions).
