I started going to Nuvo around 2017 and they were great back then - good care, timely appointments, nice staff, etc. I even got my wife to start coming here. However throughout the years they honestly became a complete mess and I stopped going a couple of years ago. A few examples of complete mismanagement and lack or organization: Wait times became ridiculous. I would show up on time for my appointments and sit in the waiting room for 20+ minutes every time, unless I was the first appointment of the day. A couple times after waiting 20-30 minutes I had to just tell them I can't do this anymore today and would have to reschedule because who knows how long I'd have to wait and I had to get back to work - a complete waste of everybody's time. My wife actually still goes here (even though I've been telling her for over a year to switch but Nuvo is a 5 minute drive from where we live so it's super convenient) and she says wait times are still an issue. Sales tactics - I get they're a business but I always felt like they were trying to sell me on something new every time i was there and at times felt pressured to give in. Since switching dentists, it's been a breath of fresh air to not feel like I'm just dollar signs. Billing - this one was the most egregious and was the final straw for me. I started receiving emails and texts saying I owed $168. I would contact them asking them what this charge was for and I would either get ignored or get told that they'll look into it and get back to me. It came to the point where they were sending "final reminders" like they were implying they were going to send it to collections, even though they couldn't explain to me what the charge was for. Finally a month or so later they responded and said it was a billing error and I don't actually owe anything. The same thing happened to my wife at the same time and hers was only $20 or something and she paid it, but who knows if that was even a legit charge or not? Glad I never paid the $168. Super shady practices if you ask me. I'm giving them two stars and not one star because despite all these issues, I did actually like the dental hygienists that cleaned my teeth and felt they were nice and did a good job. I've had a really frustrating experience with the scheduling team at this dental office. The dentist, Dr. Leoncio is actually great, professional, kind, and does excellent work. Unfortunately, the front desk and scheduling process has been very disappointing. My appointments have been cancelled twice because they said they were overbooked both times! It's difficult to plan around work and personal responsibilities, only to have appointments changed at the last minute. Their office really needs to improve their scheduling system and communication. Patients shouldn't have to deal with repeated cancellations. I hope they address this because it affects the overall experience. Unfortunately will be finding a new dentist. read more

They are also great in over charging the insurance and collect as much as they can, if you share insurance ask they what it costs and pay them in cash and then figure out the portion from the insurance. When you visit them they'll try to sweet talk to edit the reviews to make them get more patients. read more

First, you claim you "communicated those hurdles leading up to my visit." If that were true -- if I had been clearly told that you were unable to obtain my x-rays and that a routine cleaning would therefore be refused -- why on earth would I drive an hour to your office? No reasonable person would. The reality is that I was never explicitly informed that my appointment would be contingent on x-rays you failed to secure. I arrived in good faith, only to be turned away. That is a failure in your communication, not a difference in "personal preferences." Second, I had unexpired x-rays at the time of my visit. If your office had done its due diligence -- or at the very least informed me of the issue in advance -- I could have obtained and brought them myself. Instead, I was blindsided at check-in. Third, and notably, you still have not answered my original question: why are routine cleanings performed on pregnant patients without x-rays, yet I was flatly refused the same accommodation? This is a straightforward clinical question, and the fact that it continues to go unanswered -- both in person and now publicly -- only reinforces the dismissiveness I experienced that day. I also notice you mention that the doctor in question is "no longer with your practice," as if that resolves the matter. It doesn't. His departure doesn't undo the way I was treated, the time I lost, or the lack of accountability from the practice as a whole. I had to reschedule my regular cleaning appointment THREE separate times because of their scheduling issues. Finally got an appointment, drove ONE FULL HOUR to get there, and when I walked in they told me they couldn't do a simple cleaning without new x-rays. They claimed they requested my old x-rays from my previous dentist but "did not get a response." Funny how that suddenly becomes my problem on the day of the appointment. I politely asked if they could just clean my teeth without x-rays since they routinely do exactly that for pregnant patients (it's standard protocol to avoid radiation when possible). Instead of explaining anything, Dr. Jason Henderson came out, looked me up and down, gave me a flat "No," told me to "have a good day" three times in a row (basically telling me to get out), and walked away. Zero explanation, zero empathy, just pure dismissive arrogance. When I asked why pregnant women can get cleanings without x-rays but I can't, he got even colder and more condescending. His entire attitude and the way he treated me made me feel discriminated against and honestly made me think he's racist. I've never been treated so rudely by any medical professional in my life. Wasting my time with three reschedules, making me drive two hours round-trip, then refusing to provide the basic service I came for and basically kicking me out? Unacceptable. Updating my review because I feel that I should elaborate on my experience. I started to come here after moving to Hayward with my partner. My first experience with Dr Nguyen was super pleasant. She made me feel comfortable and filled all my in-between cavities. I knew at some point I will need to extract my wisdom teeth... I have three and I admit, I procrastinated and waited. Initially I was going to have them extracted with local numbing with their oral surgeon who comes about once a month, but I had major anxiety so I was referred out and I had them removed while being sedated. This was last March. Today I received a text message stating I still have outstanding extractions.... I've called and told the office that these were completed last June. Now, this brings me to the next feedback. This place is a drill first place and only care about collecting funds from insurance. How can you not update my patient chart? I got my root canal and crown from here and I could not have complete those before my extractions. This is why I looking for another dental office that actually updates patient charts. read more

I thought about this long and hard before I decided to post this review. There are so many instances of subpar and even downright awful dentistry. I've had pieces of tooth left in my mouth after I left which I almost choked on. Crowns that have fallen out multiple times. Tooth pain on every single tooth they have worked on. I'll elaborate on some instances. Every single tooth that Nuvo Dental has worked on is in a state of constant pain now. That is NOT an understatement. Every time I eat, floss or bite down, there is an unpleasant sensation on my crown and fillings. I originally came in to have a look at the pain on my lower right tooth. Instead, they decided to drill and work on 3 other teeth as well as place a crown on one of these teeth. The crown was fine at first until it started to hurt and be sensitive to hot and cold. I went to them again and again where they xrayed it many times without finding anything. My guess was it was not sealed well. Eventually, the crown fell off and decay was underneath the crown. It smelled and tasted terrible(think dog poop), but after going back to the Nuvo to get it fixed, they claimed it was just the smell of the cement. The crown fell off again before I even left the dentist and they had to cement again. This time, I had no more pain and my crown no longer bothered me. I thought they were worth giving another shot and boy.... Did they make me regret it. I came in for annual cleanings which they did a decent job. Not the best, but no issues with any dental cleaning services. They then said I had 3 more cavities which I found very hard to believe. I was so traumatized from the previous experience that I had completely changed my oral hygiene. I brushed 3 times a day, flossed 5 times a day as well as use a waterpik because the crown was so poorly fitted, I had a huge food trap on that tooth. I decided to give them a chance and I'll spare the details here... Those 3 teeth are now sensitive to hot and cold. My jaw constantly aches and throbs. I had to go back after the initial filling for them to redo it since there was a sharp pain whenever I flossed. It was much better after the refilling, but now I am always in a constant state of pain. I don't want to say this lightly, but Nuvo dental has ruined my quality of life and put me through an ordeal I hope no one ever has to go through. I was depressed from being an advocate for my own oral health and feeling crazy when they denied or claimed they could not find any issues with their work. I was not originally going to post anything, but every time I eat or drink, I am reminded of them due to the life long discomfort they have given me. TLDR: If you value your health, stay far away from this place. This is a drill and fill dentist office with little to no remorse on the quality of work they provide. read more

I have had this sitting in my drafts folder for the past few months, deciding whether I should speak up or if I should just move on. I decided that it was more important for people to know what my experience was like and how even now I am genuinely scared to go back to the dentist. I have been going to Nuvo Dental for years now, but I don't think I'll be coming back after my traumatizing experience with Dr. Nguyen. Originally when I first came here, I had the main dentist fill and check on me. Dr. Leoncio provided great care, and honestly was one of the best dentists I had. She unfortunately doesn't have availability anymore. My experience a few months ago left me speechless. I have never had a more traumatizing experience at a dentist where I end up crying in a chair and having the dentist cause me physical pain and anxiety. I have never cried at a dentist - yet here I was shaking with anxiety and crying, because the dentist that was working on me to fill/ fix the two teeth that she didn't fix properly last time - even though I had let her know it wasn't feeling right before I left. She literally stabbed me with the needle into my gums and I flinched. There was no time for the numbing agent to take effect and her demeanor was cold/ she just did not want to be there. I had tears streaming down my face, and I couldn't get away because her fingers were in my mouth. She knew and she could tell that I was in pain - and even the dental assistant could tell that I was extremely uncomfortable and kept patting my arm. She ended up getting frustrated and when I was able to get away to breathe and wipe away my tears - she sighed dramatically and stepped away. The dental assistant was kind and supported me. I think he may have said something to her because when she came back - she had the thickest and thickest personality ever. She was you'll be okay sweetie and this and that. I pushed through and I ended up leaving and I haven't been back to the dentist since. I will be looking for a new place. If you do decide to come here - go to the main doctor. Dr. Nguyen is an example of one of the worst dentists that you would not like to ever meet. She just cares about charging insurance as much as possible and not about her patients. Not only has my tooth been hurting, but the filling feel out days later - I have been scared to go back to a dentist. This review is a long time coming. Please do not come to this establishment unless you want to be charged outlandish fees. It seems like their office doesn't know how to handle insurance payments. I damn near feel like I've been scammed by this establishment. I came a couple of times to get my teeth cleaned and cavities filled here. While I was in the office I was told that my insurance covered everything and I only had a co-payment which was fine. I paid this in full with no problem. Here's the problem - a couple of months later. I start getting multiple emails, texts and calls saying I had an outstanding balance due. I was told that there was an insurance error and now I had to pay $256.80 OUT OF POCKET. I ask what the problem is and I was given some vague answer about how the insurance wouldn't cover it because it was filed late and because it was filed late and not charged on the day the service happened, they wouldn't cover it. I'm not sure how this was my fault but whatever. I paid it. Months later I get more texts, calls and emails saying I had ANOTHER out of pocket cost. This time it was for $184. Guess what the issue was again? Another insurance problem. So weird how MONTHS to YEARS after I came to visit, issues keep rising up. DO NOT COME HERE. Because their office doesn't know how to file insurance claims correctly I had to pay $500 out of pocket. Seriously you can find some place better in this area that doesn't make you feel like you've been scammed after getting treated by them. read more

The dentist suggested a 3d scan and found a tiny chip, insisting a filling, it was not working, fell off within one week, the I have to reschedule it and do another check followed by a third visit to re do the filling, and guess what, fell off within 3 days. Not using the side and not flossing at all. This level of work is making my perfectly worked tooth not working anymore. It was great and natural without any issue now 3 visits and getting worse. And yes, the dentist recommended other treatments that can last longer while doing a regular filling will worn out and fell eventually. I never know it means less than a week for the first and second filling that has been performed. All stuffs are friendly, good for regular cleaning. TL;DR: Stay away. Soulless corporate dental office. 1. Dentists were all extremely rushed. They forgot to tell me I would need not one but two root canals, so I would need to go through all the setup and scheduling for a second one as well. 2. While putting my crown on, the dentist was constantly insulting and belittling the assistant, and then left halfway through my procedure to have a smoke break. 3. They kept bringing me estimates for everything, which made me feel like they just cared about money and were probably overcharging. 4. They didn't bill right through my insurance, so I ended up having to pay another 100 dollars out of pocket a fee weeks later (and they of course immediately threatened to go to collections). 5. When I tried to get my records transferred to a new dentist, they just sent one little image instead of individual large pictures. This made it hard for the new dentist. Punchline: Turns out, I didn't need a second root canal, they just wanted to finish maxing out my insurance. They also said I had five little cavities to fill, which magically disappeared by the time I got a second opinion. Bottom line: Find a different dentist that actually cares about you. read more

But once I really reviewed the records shown on the treatment case, and after looking in my brother's mouth it became clear that Dr. Nuvo and her staff just wanted to be thorough and take good care of my brother, who is a senior citizen. The treatment given and the treatment plan really are necessary to prevent serious gum and teeth problems. Over time, I've learned that the doctor and her staff really care for their patients. I had an amazing experience at Nuvo dental. Getting an appointment was very easy and quick. I booked an appointment for a consultation along with a cleaning. During the consultation it was found I needed two fillings. Rather than schedule another appointment they were able to squeeze the service all in one which was great. The cleaning I received was the best cleaning I had in my life. The hygienist was very informative and dedicated to giving me the best results possible. Ross assisted me with my X-rays as well as assisting the dentist who did my feelings. He was so kind and made sure I was comfortable the entire appointment. The dentist was amazing as well. The doctor I saw at Nuvo (can't remember her name) worked with me on finding a more affordable way of fixing the issue and also noted that my gums were healthy--another thing my past dentist insisted was a problem. Now that my implant/crown is complete, I will not be returning to Nuvo Dental, ever. This was the worst experience I've ever had with dentistry. Between the allergic reaction to topical anesthetic in spite of having warned them of my sensitivity to an ingredient, the failure of staff to call in my antibiotic prescription resulting in infection that undid all of the work done during my second surgery, not enforcing mask wearing requirement in the waiting room, and being asked to pay more at every appointment in spite of having paid the entire cost of procedure up front, I found this office to be entirely unprofessional. Don't get me wrong, I think the oral surgeon did a fine job with the dental work itself (although I lost 10% of the bone graft due to the infection caused by the failure to provide antibiotics). But the adequate dentistry does not make up for the ineptitude of the staff. My family will never be going to Nuvo Dental, ever again. read more

They are all great here. I just had a tooth crack at 2:30 pm today, day before Thanksgiving. I called and they were super accommodating and asked pertinent questions and determined I should come in, even though they were fully booked and close at 5:00. I went in as soon as I could - arrived about 3:00. They x-rayed and interviewed and ran some tests. I will need a crown (assumed so going in), but Dr. Nguyen was great and explained all and said she could get a temporary filling for now. As always their registered Dental Assistant, Roswell was amazing and also explained all and my options and helped with booking a future appointment. So excited they were able to see me last minute and that I can enjoy Thanksgiving with the family. This is a top notch dentist and I highly recommend them. read more

When I went over for a toothache, instead of diagnosing my true condition, they extracted my wisdom teeth, which were not even bothering me. My jaw alignment was shifted as a result of the extraction, and I am now unable to close my teeth due to a 2mm gap. When I went back, I told them that my tooth is still aching and that it is becoming worse, and now I couldn't shut my teeth and having a biting problem. The dentist was unable to answer my questions and instead advised a root canal. Their only goal is to generate money, regardless of the patient's problems. They will provide options for where they may earn additional money. They destroyed my jaw alignment entirely :(. Stay away from this dental clinic! Their charges are inaccurate and they are shady about providing quote for services. They tend to set up appointments and make you wait until the appointment day to provide a quote, this leads to not having a choice but to get the services from them. My doctor was Filipino and she was also the owner and she answered all my inquiries in way that I could understand.
