I have been following there Ad's on Craigslist and loved the variety of bikes they had. My wife was looking for an all around road bike for a duathlon in August and riding with me. We went in on a Sunday and I had a good idea what we were looking for. They had 3 options for us and they worked with my wife to make sure she felt comfortable on the bike and in the shop. NW ProGear has been my go-to bike shop for the last four years. I am a bike commuter five days a week, and they have helped me keep my bike healthy and me safe/road-ready. Our family has purchased three new bikes from their store and taken our old bikes in to get fixed up before that, too. All the employees are honest, efficient, and friendly. They let me know when they can cut corners to benefit my pocketbook, but they're also good at stressing when other repair/maintenance jobs are more necessary. I have never felt pressured to spend money or say yes to services with them. I'm definitely a newbie to the world of cycling and trying to get into the sport without spending thousands of dollars up front. I went to a couple other bike shops and was not prepared to spend that kind of money but wanted a quality bike. I wish I could remember the name of the guy who assisted me to give credit , started with an F - I know, real helpful... anyway, he was so helpful, so patient with my lack of knowledge and so informative without ever pushing a sale. He set up three bikes (adjusted seat, put on peddles, etc) that would be appropriate Sizes and made sure I tried each out. He listened to my goals for riding and helped me select the best option. The street by the shop dead ends, which makes for a perfect place to try out the bikes and get a true feel for the fit, this was huge in helping me decide. I am over the moon with my new bike and look forward to each ride. For carrying used bike they have a great selection, even better than what was available in my size at some of the other shops selling new bikes. read more

This should be the first place you look for a new or used bikes. They have somewhat limited selection, but they will not try to sell you something you don't need, and you will never be rushed. The owner spent a lot of time with my wife telling her about her new bike and about potential accessories. I bet the person that gave them one star had never been there. I love how conveniently close it is to trimet/max. It's tucked away near The New Copper Penny in a clean neighborhood. It's also near the I-5 path and the Spring Water corridor, which is bicycle friendly. Dimitriy was the best! His thorough service and offers were top notch. He was always available. His store was tidy. His lineup of bikes, accessories and prices were unmatched (more acc. to come, fyi; anything was on-order). His personal history and knowledge of his vintage Motobécane was intriguing. We also went to Clackamas community college! There were a few price tags missing, but he quickly solved that. Talk about giving bikes new life. My bike was in bad shape, had been sitting for several months while I tried to decide if it was worth fixing it or I should just buy a new one. The problem is, I am intimidated by the bike snobs at many bike shops. At NWProGear I felt like it is OK to be an amateur. He told me what my bike is worth, showed me a similar one that was rebuilt and ready to go and then told me what repairs he recommended for my bike. This allowed me to make the best decision for my budget (full-time student). The bike was ready the next day and he called to let me know of one more thing that needed replacing, which was taken care of by the agreed upon pick up time. For under $100 I now have an old bike that rides like new. It was totally worth it! read more

Extremely unprofessional. We went to try a used tandem bicycle at their shop, which was advertised, and decided the next day to buy it. I asked them to fix the chains (which I would pay for, and they agreed when we were at the shop). They committed to selling me the bike and completing the repairs for prices we had agreed on. Meanwhile, I passed on another tandem we had looked at elsewhere and was deciding between (which has since been sold). They discovered that a rim was cracked on the rear wheel, and called to tell me it would not be available at the agreed upon pick-up date while they replaced it. I agreed, and checked back in the following week. They again said they were delayed, but it would be available within a week. I waited again, and then called them again (they never called me), and found they had sold the bike to someone else. At this point my alternate bike has been sold, and we've missed the biking trip we had planned on, and we have no bike. They didn't even bother to tell us they sold the bike out from under us and broke their word to us. We at no point asked them to do anything other than sell us the bike in the condition stated for the price advertised, and repair the chain foe a price they chose and we agreed to. Extremely disappointed by such unprofessional service. read more

My husband and I were in Waldport when we decided we wanted to check out one of the bikes at this shop. We were 3+ hours away and they were closing at 4, it was 12:30. We ended up making it to the shop at 3:50 and the wonderful owner, Dimitriy, stayed with us and helped out for an hour extra longer than the store was open. He was super helpful and didn't act rushed or annoyed. He even kept making minor adjustments on the bike so that it would be perfect when we left with it. Definitely recommend it! read more
