David immediately accepted the task and the team worked with me over 3 months to troubleshoot every possible underlying issue with my bike. And they fixed it! Since then I've brought the same bike back with a new issue, a different bike for a tune-up, and friends have also brought their bikes in. I will never go anywhere else!! Okay... each visit I have made here has been flawless. PDX is a bike town, that's no secret... so competition is stiff and I have my favorite LBSs, for sure... this happens to be one of them. I am thankful that they carry Selle Italia products. Namely, the SLR Ti Superflow saddle I wanted. They even took time to ensure I was purchasing the proper width saddle. Their saddle library program is also amazing and has helped me tremendously in understanding what works and doesn't for my body.

I paid this shop to perform a standard tubeless sealant service. When I took my bike out for a…read moreride, the wheel felt completely off-balance and heavy, even though they assured me the job was done. Suspecting an issue, I removed the tire myself, and what I found was shocking (see attached photo). Instead of properly removing the tire, cleaning out the old, hardened, massive latex ball (a 'sealant monster'), and then adding fresh liquid, they apparently just injected new sealant right over the top of this hardened clump. A basic part of tubeless service is cleaning the tire. By failing to do so, they wasted my money, made my bike unsafe to ride (due to the severe imbalance), and completely missed a standard maintenance step. When you pay a professional shop, you expect professional service, not a lazy shortcut that leaves a huge, hardened glob inside your tire. I would strongly caution others about getting basic maintenance done here if this is the standard of work they allow out of their service bay.

During that time, I managed to put 3300 miles on the bike; and on my last ride, I had two spokes break on me. I briefly thought about doing the repair myself, but I've heard truing a wheel can be a tedious process, so I decided to look up Bike Gallery. They had an opening the following Thursday, so I dropped it off one Saturday, and picked it up the next (I live 40 min. away). While it was there, I also had them do a "Deluxe Tune-Up" and replace my chain (which I had purchased, but hadn't installed). The work was completed on Thursday, as expected, and they called to let me know it was ready; and that everything went as expy. I had calculated the total based on rates listed on their website, and was pleasantly surprised to see the total bill was lower than expected. A drivetrain cleaning was part of the tune-up, so the bike looks great; and they have a 30 ride warranty, should any issues pop up with their repair work. I'm very happy with my experience, for sure.

I made an appointment and went in first thing in the morning to have RideWrap (purchased for $180…read moreelsewhere) installed on my bike. I was told I would be charged the hourly labor rate of $95/hour to install, but I would be called if it would take longer than two hours. The employee appeared to think it would take between one and two hours to complete. The next morning, I got a call saying the bike was ready for pickup and that it took them 5.5 hours to do the installation. I was never contacted to be told that the job would be taking longer than two hours. They charge me $250 for the job and act like they're doing me a favor. If I had been contacted - as I was told I would be - or if this price was presented when I dropped off the bike, I might have been fine with it. But charging more than $190 in this situation is unethical at best. After doing a bit more research, every shop I found that offers installation of RideWrap specifically (instead of just charging an hourly rate) charges $150. I need other parts and more work to get done on the bike, but now that will have to be taken care of elsewhere. Unrelated note: the parking situation at/around the shop isn't great.

UPDATE: After receiving a full refund of the purchase price of my bike from the manufacturer…read morefollowing this incident, I have increased my one star review to three stars. This is because I still have to ding the place two stars for two things. NO ESTIMATE The Beeline confirmation email promises an evaluation and an estimate before work begins. I never received an estimate. This whole dispute began as a billing dispute after Lectric eBikes refused to pay for all the warranty work and additional work was done. Had I been given an estimate listing additional jobs I could have objected then and a lot of confusion could have been avoided. Had I been given an estimate listing work Lectric was refusing to pay for I could have complained to Lectric. Instead, I was told how much Lectric would pay but not for which items or why they refused. This effectively leaves consumers in my position unable to constructively contest the bill. For promising estimates and not providing them I am subtracting one star. CALLING THE POLICE When I refused to pay a padded bill that Lectric had already agreed to pay, this shop tried to hold my bike hostage in order to get the money. That is highly inappropriate when dealing with manufacturers that you have a service partnership with. Everything Lectric and Beeline sends out in reference to shops like this uses the phrase "service partner" or similar language. Eventually I just took my bike and left only to get a call from the police later saying that this seems like a civil matter but that I will get arrested for trespassing if I ever go back to Nomad Cycles. The police blotter recorded the call as a theft complaint. That might have been appropriate had I not taken my own bike and the bill in question not included a combination of unauthorized charges and charges their service partner agreed to pay for in advance. Plus, I called Lectric the following Monday and tried my best to get them to pay Nomad Cycles what they claim to be owed. Thieves typically don't walk into a shop in broad daylight with no disguise, let the staff know exactly who they are, and try their best to get any debts owed of any paid by those that actually owe the money. For calling the cops I am docking this shop one star. CHANGE OF HEART I received a full refund of over $1,000 from Lectric eBikes because I took the bike from the shop and rode it just 4 times afterwards. That was all it took to suffer catastrophic drive train failure. Despite that, the bike still works in throttle only mode with no chain. It turns out that such failures are common when combining a new derailleur with an old worn out chain but nobody ever told me that. Unfortunately, the next time out the folding latch on the frame opened up on me 4 times. This was enough for Lectric to declare the bike unsafe to ride and offer the refund. I also think there may have been a misunderstanding with the owner of Nomad Cycles. When taking a glimpse at his internal notes it looked like he was accusing me of abusing the bike. That could explain why Lectric wasn't paying for all of it or why he wouldn't explain himself, but absent further proof those are just theories. What I do know is that Lectric promotes the bike for uses it wasn't built for which could make a reasonable professional in his position think that the customer had abused the bike. Lectric promotes its XP 3.0 model as an all terrain vehicle. Intended use is legally defined not just by product descriptions and what the bike's design is capable of. It is defined by what the manufacturer says it is for and how they promote it. For instance, Lectric shows XP 3.0 users riding offroad on sandy saltwater beaches, on gravel, in the desert, and across grass fields. That establishes that the bike is promoted for general offroad use. Then you have the blog post announcing the XP 3.0 which specifically says "tough terrain? no problem!" before saying that they're now adding tire sealant just in case. This makes reasonable consumers think that the bike is built not just for tough terrain but terrain so tough you need sealant just to avoid flat tires which makes the intended use of the Lectric XP 3.0 all terrain.

Looked around for a place to get my E bike tuned up and landed on Nomad. I went to my bike…read moremanufacturing website and they listed Nomad as a suggested service shop and had a link to make an appointment. So I made an appointment through the link on the bike company website. Good thing I called Nomad because they had no record of it even though I had an email confrontation! But luckily they were able to get me in a few days later! I brought my bike in and after my initial encounter with the employees, I knew they were going to get a 3-4 star review. I had never been to Nomad, or literally any bike shop ever! And they were not very warm and welcoming. In fact, the mechanic who was working on a woman's bike seat when I walked in seemed very frustrated and not very nice at all. And I remember immediately thinking "it's 12:15 PM, they opened 15 minutes ago, how can this guy be so irritable so early in the day!?" Anyways I left my bike there and before leaving asked how long it would take. They said a few days. It ended up taking a week. However, when I picked the bike up, the two people working that day were super friendly and my bike is working great so they get a five stars! I'm hoping I just caught them at a bad moment the day they made their first impression on me.

I just had to take a moment to express the gratitude of myself and my girlfriend for the wonderful experience we had in purchasing our new mountain bikes at River City Bicycles. We first came in on Fri July 4 2014 after shopping nearly every other bike shop in the Portland metro area. The store was very busy with their annual sale in progress yet we were greeted by numerous smiling faces. We were first assisted by Kyle who didn't attempt to push us towards the wrong bike as had happened at nearly every other place we had been. He set my girlfriend Mary up with a Specialized that she rode upstairs and really enjoyed the feel of. We assured Kyle that we would return after thinking about it and he gave us a business card with quote. We continued our search for a bike thinking that a couple hundred dollars less might be the better way to go but after a few more rides around town Mary still like the bike Kyle showed her the best. I returned on Saturday to try out a few bikes myself. This time I was assisted by Matt who patiently set up 3 bikes for me to ride. Again the while being assisted by Matt other nice helpful people like Jeb and Rick came by to make sure that I was being helped. They all answered my questions with obvious wealth of knowledge and did not try to dazzle me or pull the wool over my eyes. I again assured Matt that I would be back. Again I received a card and quote. Mary and I returned on Sun the 6th shortly after the store opened and again they were very busy yet everyone was happy, smiling and very helpful. We were offered water and other beverages to satisfy or thirst during the hot weather that day. Our experience Sunday went well above anything we have ever experienced or could have expected. We were greeted by Stuart. We let him know who had previously attended to us. They all conferred and assured us that Stuart could help us. We had printed off a list of bikes that we wanted to try out from their existing and older inventory posted on their website and Stuart went right to work finding the bikes then he began asking us basic question like our weight, riding style, preferences etc and began to literally set up the bikes to our specification. I have never seen a more skilled technician at work! He was fast and accurate and the difference in the bike was immediately noticeable! He took us upstairs for a ride and observed our pedal stroke, posture and positioning while riding. He then used his skill and expertise to change components on the bikes to give the best fit possible, he even observed the typical neck craning and changed parts to alter this all too common uncomfortable and painful position. Stuart then let us take the bikes on a test ride around town. After we returned he set up two more bikes for us with the same patience and skill he used previously. We then returned to try a third set of bikes and all the while Mary and I were blown away by Stuarts precision and mastery of bicycles. We decided finally upon two bikes that were twice as much money as we originally had planned to purchase but when the day was done the bikes were ready for us to ride without any further adjustment necessary on our part. Stuart went on to assist us with accessories and explained the warranty as well as adjustment policy. He gave us tips on setting up the bikes for various terrain etc and invited us to return after 100 miles or 30 days to retune the bikes. Not only are we completely satisfied that we purchased the best bikes for the buck but we now have a reliable, trustworthy and truly professional source to return to when we are ready to buy road bikes. Thank you River City Bicycles for employing such skilled and professional people. We want to especially call out Stuart's name here because he completely sealed the deal for us. Unbelievable how horrible this bike store is. NEVER EVER GO HERE FOR ANYTHING. If u want to be treated like an idiot who isnt as into biking as their omnipotent biker employee is. Not only can u go to other shops for way cheaper prices, u can be treated like a regular human being. Earlier today I went to River City to use an old gift certificate. After asking how much was left on the gift certificate the nice counter woman said everything, go spend it. while attempting to use my gift certificate, Gary, a store manager intervened an proceeded to tell me it was invalid an none of it can be used of the 125 dollar gift certificate. obviously i tried to figure out the problem. Gary treated me like a second class citizen. physically snatching the gift certificate from my hand then tearing it up. Being treated like this is beyond me, i dont understand how someone could treat a customer in such a way an expect to keep their job. Not only do i miss out on my Christmas present from last year, i get treated like some insignificant idiot criminal by Gary. He obviously lacks major social an customer service skills, or maybe just common sense. What happened today was atrocious,I have honestly never been treated so disrespectfully in my whole life (no lie). If an owner would have witnessed what happen today, Gary would be fired, NO QUESTION. I am hopeful that this message will be read by a respectful an intelligent person who will recognize the magnitude of Garys actions an how it represents the store. read more

Great bike shop but some staff don't know what the heck they're doing. This is a great bike shop with lots of grape bike accessories clothing and more. However they have a few employees that don't know what they're talking about when it comes to helping customers with bike parts by clothing that should not be working at the bike shop. I went in today to get a new bike to which I bought and I was going to get some new bike tires for my bicycle grab a bike. But a guy in a black covid mask tried telling me oh I don't need tires and my bike can't take bigger tires when it can the customer tried telling me I need to get rid of my bike and buy a better bike. Which is poor customer service by that employee. If this bike shops going to keep staying in business they need to get rid of employees that don't know what they're doing and don't know what they're talking about and actually know how to help a customer and know what they're doing. This is something the owner of the bike store needs to work on meaning the owner of this bike shop needs to get better qualified employees that know about bikes and then can do a better job of helping customers. read more

I recently moved back to the Portland area and my first stop was River City. I have been wanting to get new cycling shoes but was waiting till I got back to Portland to get them knowing I would receive the best service. I went into the shop last Saturday to begin looking at shoes and right away Stuart came over and asked if I had any questions (which i did). Stuart went above and beyond to find the best shoe that fit my foot (have a slight metatarsal issue on 1 foot). After a week of research I went back this past Saturday to speak with Stuart and once again he delivered. Stuart's customer service was top notch. He had me try on several pairs of shoes, ensured my toes fit in the toe box, the sizing was right etc. In addition, constantly would explain the benefits/technology of each shoe. I ended up getting a new pair but what I valued most was Stuart's customer service and willingness to ensure i was in the best shoe for my feet. I cannot wait to wear my new shoes! I need a new bike build, and after some time, I decided to go with River City Bikes (RCB). The Road Race machine I wanted built was based on an Evolve CIMA (Chinese Frame purchased on Panda Podium.cc). My build date was coming up. I dropped the parts off early, and the person who took and stored all the parts I delivered was very professional and made extensive notes of what I wanted and what I had already done regarding seat height, wheel pre-build, and stack height. This was very helpful, I am sure, for the bike mechanic who put together the bike. Speaking of the bike mechanic, who I think was named Dustin, the build was pro, just excellent work. Also, he did it on time and communicated to me when finished, very promptly. RCB is the place for knowledgeable professionals who care about and listen to customers' needs--highly recommended!!! P.S. Get there early because it's a very busy place. Love it!! read more

I'm in the market for a new road bike. I went in here reluctantly but my friend kept bothering me about it. Once I got inside I realized why he made me come in here. They have a huge selection of bikes and gear form $ to $$$$$$$$. I spent over 45min with a guy, who's name escapes me, getting properly measured out and riding bikes upstairs. Too bad it wasn't warmer I would have taken them for a spin around the block and surely gone home with one. Service and support at River City Bike (RCB) is excellent. Brandon, Jeb, and team have one goal in mind, your complete satisfaction. Words that come to mind: meticulous, courteous, professional, honest, and knowledgeable to name a few. RCB doesn't take shortcuts and their know-how is comprehensive. RCB will get you rolling to your event in a timely manner, help you handle a warranty item, or simply give you advice. You can't find the RCB level of service online. Visited this shop while in town because I had heard it was a great shop. It does have a large selection of bikes and an ok selection of everything else, but I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed overall. The store is very crowded with merchandise, and on the Saturday I was there, I barely had room to move around. Ah-mazing customer service…read more Aaron and Kevin were absolute angels when it came to assisting me with my shiny new Brompton & it's rack needs. Even close to closing and a storm on it's way they wanted to make sure that I was able to leave the shop with my bike ready to go. I've even had instances where my motor was having issues on the roadside, and called in and they were able to help me troubleshoot it. The customer service I've received every time I've come in has been superb and they are so extremely honest about the products they carry in store. They only offer the best. One of the gals, I can't quite remember her name at this moment, but she helped me buy my Brompton originally she gifted me these amazing wheels I've been pumped to try that give you bidirectional motion. She said she didn't use them anymore and was happy to gift them when they were on display. My experience here has always been a 10/10!

I was looking for a resale bike for my daughter, for a school event the following day. The owner let me know he'd just had one come in that would work great. First it needed a full workup and tune-up, something he always does. In an hour or so, the bike was ready. When we arrived at the shop the owner took the time making sure it was altogether the right fit, and helped me out by watching my kiddo do a test ride, so the seat was just right. I don't have a very good idea of these things on my own, so the extra help was much appreciated. The Cannondale we came home with has been a great bike. Joel spoke to me on the phone and tried to trick me into thinking that I had somehow agreed to potential fees on the Giant website, which I have since gone back and confirmed was not true. Honestly really disappointing and frustrating. The interaction felt like I was dealing with a scammer. Luckily, I was able to move my purchase to another shop.

I was told the labor cost, the price of the new wheel, and rim tape. I have never heard of "non-inventory costs". It was explained as "talc for the rim, use of rags, and other non inventory items" -at least that's what I thought I heard when I asked what it was. That's a lot of powder and rags. Maybe it includes pumping my tire up? Which other bike shops do this?
