David immediately accepted the task and the team worked with me over 3 months to troubleshoot every possible underlying issue with my bike. And they fixed it! Since then I've brought the same bike back with a new issue, a different bike for a tune-up, and friends have also brought their bikes in. I will never go anywhere else!! Okay... each visit I have made here has been flawless. PDX is a bike town, that's no secret... so competition is stiff and I have my favorite LBSs, for sure... this happens to be one of them. I am thankful that they carry Selle Italia products. Namely, the SLR Ti Superflow saddle I wanted. They even took time to ensure I was purchasing the proper width saddle. I paid this shop to perform a standard tubeless sealant service. When I took my bike out for a…read moreride, the wheel felt completely off-balance and heavy, even though they assured me the job was done. Suspecting an issue, I removed the tire myself, and what I found was shocking (see attached photo). Instead of properly removing the tire, cleaning out the old, hardened, massive latex ball (a 'sealant monster'), and then adding fresh liquid, they apparently just injected new sealant right over the top of this hardened clump. A basic part of tubeless service is cleaning the tire. By failing to do so, they wasted my money, made my bike unsafe to ride (due to the severe imbalance), and completely missed a standard maintenance step. When you pay a professional shop, you expect professional service, not a lazy shortcut that leaves a huge, hardened glob inside your tire. I would strongly caution others about getting basic maintenance done here if this is the standard of work they allow out of their service bay.

During that time, I managed to put 3300 miles on the bike; and on my last ride, I had two spokes break on me. I briefly thought about doing the repair myself, but I've heard truing a wheel can be a tedious process, so I decided to look up Bike Gallery. They had an opening the following Thursday, so I dropped it off one Saturday, and picked it up the next (I live 40 min. away). While it was there, I also had them do a "Deluxe Tune-Up" and replace my chain (which I had purchased, but hadn't installed). The work was completed on Thursday, as expected, and they called to let me know it was ready; and that everything went as expy. I had calculated the total based on rates listed on their website, and was pleasantly surprised to see the total bill was lower than expected. A drivetrain cleaning was part of the tune-up, so the bike looks great; and they have a 30 ride warranty, should any issues pop up with their repair work. I'm very happy with my experience, for sure.

I made an appointment and went in first thing in the morning to have RideWrap (purchased for $180…read moreelsewhere) installed on my bike. I was told I would be charged the hourly labor rate of $95/hour to install, but I would be called if it would take longer than two hours. The employee appeared to think it would take between one and two hours to complete. The next morning, I got a call saying the bike was ready for pickup and that it took them 5.5 hours to do the installation. I was never contacted to be told that the job would be taking longer than two hours. They charge me $250 for the job and act like they're doing me a favor. If I had been contacted - as I was told I would be - or if this price was presented when I dropped off the bike, I might have been fine with it. But charging more than $190 in this situation is unethical at best. After doing a bit more research, every shop I found that offers installation of RideWrap specifically (instead of just charging an hourly rate) charges $150. I need other parts and more work to get done on the bike, but now that will have to be taken care of elsewhere. Unrelated note: the parking situation at/around the shop isn't great.

UPDATE: After receiving a full refund of the purchase price of my bike from the manufacturer…read morefollowing this incident, I have increased my one star review to three stars. This is because I still have to ding the place two stars for two things. NO ESTIMATE The Beeline confirmation email promises an evaluation and an estimate before work begins. I never received an estimate. This whole dispute began as a billing dispute after Lectric eBikes refused to pay for all the warranty work and additional work was done. Had I been given an estimate listing additional jobs I could have objected then and a lot of confusion could have been avoided. Had I been given an estimate listing work Lectric was refusing to pay for I could have complained to Lectric. Instead, I was told how much Lectric would pay but not for which items or why they refused. This effectively leaves consumers in my position unable to constructively contest the bill. For promising estimates and not providing them I am subtracting one star. CALLING THE POLICE When I refused to pay a padded bill that Lectric had already agreed to pay, this shop tried to hold my bike hostage in order to get the money. That is highly inappropriate when dealing with manufacturers that you have a service partnership with. Everything Lectric and Beeline sends out in reference to shops like this uses the phrase "service partner" or similar language. Eventually I just took my bike and left only to get a call from the police later saying that this seems like a civil matter but that I will get arrested for trespassing if I ever go back to Nomad Cycles. The police blotter recorded the call as a theft complaint. That might have been appropriate had I not taken my own bike and the bill in question not included a combination of unauthorized charges and charges their service partner agreed to pay for in advance. Plus, I called Lectric the following Monday and tried my best to get them to pay Nomad Cycles what they claim to be owed. Thieves typically don't walk into a shop in broad daylight with no disguise, let the staff know exactly who they are, and try their best to get any debts owed of any paid by those that actually owe the money. For calling the cops I am docking this shop one star. CHANGE OF HEART I received a full refund of over $1,000 from Lectric eBikes because I took the bike from the shop and rode it just 4 times afterwards. That was all it took to suffer catastrophic drive train failure. Despite that, the bike still works in throttle only mode with no chain. It turns out that such failures are common when combining a new derailleur with an old worn out chain but nobody ever told me that. Unfortunately, the next time out the folding latch on the frame opened up on me 4 times. This was enough for Lectric to declare the bike unsafe to ride and offer the refund. I also think there may have been a misunderstanding with the owner of Nomad Cycles. When taking a glimpse at his internal notes it looked like he was accusing me of abusing the bike. That could explain why Lectric wasn't paying for all of it or why he wouldn't explain himself, but absent further proof those are just theories. What I do know is that Lectric promotes the bike for uses it wasn't built for which could make a reasonable professional in his position think that the customer had abused the bike. Lectric promotes its XP 3.0 model as an all terrain vehicle. Intended use is legally defined not just by product descriptions and what the bike's design is capable of. It is defined by what the manufacturer says it is for and how they promote it. For instance, Lectric shows XP 3.0 users riding offroad on sandy saltwater beaches, on gravel, in the desert, and across grass fields. That establishes that the bike is promoted for general offroad use. Then you have the blog post announcing the XP 3.0 which specifically says "tough terrain? no problem!" before saying that they're now adding tire sealant just in case. This makes reasonable consumers think that the bike is built not just for tough terrain but terrain so tough you need sealant just to avoid flat tires which makes the intended use of the Lectric XP 3.0 all terrain.

Looked around for a place to get my E bike tuned up and landed on Nomad. I went to my bike…read moremanufacturing website and they listed Nomad as a suggested service shop and had a link to make an appointment. So I made an appointment through the link on the bike company website. Good thing I called Nomad because they had no record of it even though I had an email confrontation! But luckily they were able to get me in a few days later! I brought my bike in and after my initial encounter with the employees, I knew they were going to get a 3-4 star review. I had never been to Nomad, or literally any bike shop ever! And they were not very warm and welcoming. In fact, the mechanic who was working on a woman's bike seat when I walked in seemed very frustrated and not very nice at all. And I remember immediately thinking "it's 12:15 PM, they opened 15 minutes ago, how can this guy be so irritable so early in the day!?" Anyways I left my bike there and before leaving asked how long it would take. They said a few days. It ended up taking a week. However, when I picked the bike up, the two people working that day were super friendly and my bike is working great so they get a five stars! I'm hoping I just caught them at a bad moment the day they made their first impression on me.

TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE. This shop used to be so much better than it is now. We purchased new bikes here for our kids in 2015 and always had really great service here. One of the reasons we purchased the bikes here was because we were told we would always get free labor here if we purchase the parts here. Last time we went in Sarah the manager was very rude and told us they stopped doing it. We still purchased from them but her attitude was not the nicest, gave me the feeling she did not care. Fast forward to last week I called in because my boys were riding and their tires popped. I called in and my mistake I asked if they had any 20" bike tires, thinking that was the size of my boys bikes and they told me yes. So I sent my husband down to the store and he told me he thought their bikes were 16" so I called back to the store and Sarah answered. Sarah rudely told me they did not have any 16" bike tires that I was looking for and said she was just so busy with a store full of people and could not check the back to see if she had any in the back and kept saying she did not have time to check because she had lines of people and hung up. I called my husband and told him not to go in because they said they did not have any tires and they had a store full of people and did not have time to check in back and my husband told me they just got there and there was only one other customer in the store.... hmmmm, very interesting. I told my husband just to leave because they were rude and obviously did not want to help us or sell us any bike tires. So he left. I called in again the next day asking if they could check about what kind of tires they could get in for my boys bikes and Sarah answered the phone again. She was even ruder this time. She told me that I accused her employee of lying to me, which I did not, in fact I called in to tell her I gave him the wrong tire size and was not even upset? I only wanted to know if they had or could get the correct tires in for our bikes. She said there were no tires available, so I then said if I can find them online can I bring them to you to have you install them and she said that is not their policy. I said well could you maybe make an exception to put them on since you can not locate them? Oh yeah, also to mention she told me that they do not do free labor when you purchase parts there anymore and gave me some story about how things have gone up and instead of raising the prices they left them and that is the discount. Well the reason we purchased bikes there to begin with was because the free labor and free adjustments sounded good when we purchased them. Pretty sure someone could sue them over selling something based on a lie and then not wanting to honor it, and am now told that she used to have a technician who told people whatever but they do not honor that anymore. Seems odd, so going back to them not wanting put some tires on there, I even said I will pay you labor to do so... she said they could not do it. I said well since you can not get the tires, if I get the tires myself I will pay the labor... I asked her to ask someone if they can make the exception. She said she will not bother her owner with that etc. I asked for the owners name and she said she is not at liberty to give out his name? I said then who can I speak to above you and she said no one. Then she said her owner is out of the country. She finally agreed to ask him but said she could not tell me when because she was so busy... I brought up how my husband was in the store when she told me they had lines of people waiting to be helped and she said my husband was incorrect. I still have not heard back from her, however over the weekend we found another bike shop and took our boys bikes in there and they fixed them. 2 of the 3 tires needed new tubes, not tires and the other tire needed a new sticky piece to hold the rim and tire/tube together and they did not need tires. So in the end I didn't even need new tires, and the outer rim wouldn't look at them because they were too busy according to Sarah. Funny thing is the one tire we took to them a few months ago and Sarah happened to help us that time and made my husband feel like an idiot and told him well it only needed air in the tire, the tire is fine... and it goes flat every couple times he rides it, well the other bike shop fixed it where the outer rim could not. I am just shocked at her behavior. She obviously does not want me reaching out to someone higher than her because then they will see how she is. Times are tough now a days and everyone is struggling, you would think the bike shop would want our business, not want to turn us away. We have only done business with the outer rim since 2015. They just lost a customer of 5 years. I will not go back as long as Sarah is still there. Hopefully the owner will read this and realize how Sarah treats people. We will be purchasing new bikes in the next month and it will not be from the outer rim. read more

A few years ago I bought a brand-new Fuji Roubaix Pro. I had always heard good things about Fuji: solid bikes, great value (I am no rich retired doctor with a $5000+ budget). So that Roubaix was my first "real" road bike and in 3 years I put over 12,000 miles on it. I had a couple minor crashes last spring, so when I started hearing a steady "creak! creak! creak!" when climbing out of the saddle, I feared the worst - a cracked frame. At the top, I checked the frame: Yep. Hairline cracks above the rear dropouts.... Shit! And there was no way I could afford a new bike. I thought I was out of luck; time to save up for a new bike.... Then came my first experience with The Outer Rim. The shop I bought my bike from was kind of hit-or-miss with customer service, so I looked for the nearest Fuji dealer with the dim hope that maybe I was still covered by some kind of warranty. I wasn't inside the door of The Outer Rim three seconds before I was greeted by two mechanics and the owner. About one minute later, I was beaming. I was repeatedly assured me that yes, Fuji would replace the frame. The mechanics swarmed the bike, taking measurements, getting the serial number, asking me questions about my riding style. I was out of the store in ten minutes, elated. Instead of having to buy a new frame, I only had to shell out the cost of a build-up + tune-up. Hell YES! But, the story gets better. The owner called me after talking with Fuji. They were going to upgrade me to a 2009 SST 2.0. WHAT?!! My 3 year old Roubaix was $1500 msrp - for the whole bike! The SST frameset alone was $2,000! Wow! Anybody who is familiar with Fuji knows what a beautiful frame the SST is. The Outer Rim is the most down-to-earth, helpful bike shop I have ever been to. They may not stock the same prestigious (and often over-priced) inventory as River City or The Bike Gallery, but their mechanics certainly know how to work on high-end road bikes. Trust 'em - they are meticulous and careful. The Outer Rim has a much wider inventory (think road sport, mountain, family, and commuter emphasis) and their prices are always competitive. And they offer free lifetime tuneups with every bike they sell. No shit. It's the truth. Long story short: now (with a groupset upgrade to SRAM Force) I have a very serious, all carbon fiber, light as hell, REAL racing bike! I can't help but feel that the owner, and The Outer Rim mechanics, got me an upgrade that Fuji doesn't just do for everybody. (Maybe, they do - but The Outer Rim crew really makes you feel like your bike is the most important in the shop). I really could not be more grateful to both The Outer Rim and Fuji bikes. Both organizations have one more lifelong customer. (And, to the mechanic who did most of the work on my bike, and patiently put up with my incessant phone calls and drop-ins, THANK YOU!!! I suck SO bad at remembering names. Sorry. You know who you are.) read more

I went into the store today because of the bike shop that I normally go to was closed (store hours not out of business). But I knew this store was there and had always meant to stop by and check it out. Well after today I will never take my business to that other bike big name big shop again. -Customer Service: True I was the only one in the store but I was greeted immediately and walked around the store being shown were every thing I asked for was. This ranged from bike shoes, pedals, to cleats for the shoes that I bought. Amazing, I felt so welcome and at home that I forgot about the family sitting in the car waiting for me. -Sales: The staff member was so helpful in all of my needs that what I had originally went into the store to purchase he was going to special order for me. This was however not needed because he helped me find a pair of biking shoes and a set of pedals that I liked more than what I thought I had wanted. As for the pedals they were on a display bike that he expertly removed just so that I was happy with my sale. -Bottom Line: The store was clean, professionally laid out with everything in a neat place. The people working there were very knowledgeable about every thing and I am a bike patrol officer downtown. They even caught me up to speed on some things. These guys are the absolute best! I have never been treated better by I think any business out there. When I walked in I knew absolutely noting about bicycles or really what I was getting into. They were friendly and professional from the very beginning and answered every one of my questions without a hitch. After a few rides I definately could feel several MAJOR differences in the Marin I was test riding and the Schwinn I had bought at Target. After some digressing we special ordered a new bike. Later I changed my mind and wanted to upgrade the the higher end model. Not only was it no problem they even waved the additional shipping! One thing I was really surprised by is their in store life time service warranty that came with my new bike. I love this basically it covers all tune ups and labor for service to the bicycle to create the BEST SERVICE I have ever experienced. In heavy rain and traffic I was ran into a pole just the other day and i was nearby i took it in and the took care of everything free of charge! Fixed my bent rim, chain, and my front fenders and light. Free. I just moved here a few weeks ago from indiana and i never really got to ride a bicycle there. Thanks to this shop I have discovered a new passion and favorite thing to do I can not thank these guys enough and I need not look anywhere else for my cycling needs. read more

I have ridden bikes all my life. After being amputated I was afraid I may not be able to enjoy my hobby. After a little bit of checking around and asking a lot of questions, I was given a few pointers on how to do it. I met Nadine when first looking for durable gloves while using my wheelchair. She was ever so kind and helpful. With her insight and support I was able to once again ride after a few modifications. Other bicycle shops were rude and just scoffed at the concept of my being able to ride. Nadine listened to what I wanted and was able to help me find a new bike that fit me even better than my previous bike. I have never seen a bike shop go the extra mile for a customer. Their assistance and support has developed into a lifetime friendship. They are a true gem and rare find. read more

I absolutely love The Outer Rim!!! The customer service there is exceptional and without a doubt the best I have ever received in any of the places I go (besides Victoria's Secret, it's a tie)!! The mechanics there are so very helpful and knowledgeable about their products, I don't even hesitate to "let them hook me up" with whatever I need. They have me covered EVERY time. The place is just full of different personalities and it makes a colorful addition to the community!!! I get so tired of mediocre service. If you are looking for a bike shop that is interested in more than your money then this is the place. The Outer Rim has a large selection of bikes ranging from road to electric. The staff knows what they are talking about and takes the time to understand your needs. I have my bikes maintained here, the mechanics are good and pay attention to detail. I own more than my share of bikes ranging from the inexpensive to the expensive and I will be bringing all my bikes here. Pricing on bikes is more then competitive, no buyers remorse here. If you do not live in NE it is worth the drive or ride to get to this shop. read more

I got a 29'er here for my birthday recently and the only time I've had an issue with it they fixed it the minute I brought my bike in, they also stayed open 20 minutes late on labor day weekend so a friend and I could buy a bike pump from them. Their lifetime of free service offer is also unbeatable from what I've seen compared to other shops in the area. read more

He had great info but seemed more interested in whatever he was doing behind the counter. Nobody else was in the store. Eventually he came out to assist but in the end said we need to make decisions on what we want first. Point made. Overall though I felt uncomfortable at this location. The Happy Valley location were both like a whole lot better. This location however is the only location that does rentals. Nice big place though! We do love the products in the end.

Firstly, I commute 6 miles one way and drop my kid off at daycare. I'm also a big dude so I know things on my bike get loose and wear down based on the weight and use of the bike. Left Coast is amazing!! They listen to what I perceive is wrong with the bike and provide feedback based on what they see at the point of inspection. As they work on the bike they'll text me about other items they spot and when they are finished. Each time I've spoken with them and worked with them, they make you feel informed, educated, and comfortable. I've been to a few local companies in North Portland that after I drop my bike off they make me feel bad about the components on my bike, trying to upsell just about everything. For this reason and the experience I've had with LCB, I'm staying with them. It also helps that they show up to my work, which is a huge value-add to my busy work/family life.
