I bought a bike 18 months ago (Trek Checkpoint ALR5), from a different bike shop, but since then had heard that Bike Gallery had a good service and repair shop. During that time, I managed to put 3300 miles on the bike; and on my last ride, I had two spokes break on me. I briefly thought about doing the repair myself, but I've heard truing a wheel can be a tedious process, so I decided to look up Bike Gallery. They had an opening the following Thursday, so I dropped it off one Saturday, and picked it up the next (I live 40 min. away). While it was there, I also had them do a "Deluxe Tune-Up" and replace my chain (which I had purchased, but hadn't installed). The work was completed on Thursday, as expected, and they called to let me know it was ready; and that everything went as expy. I had calculated the total based on rates listed on their website, and was pleasantly surprised to see the total bill was lower than expected. A drivetrain cleaning was part of the tune-up, so the bike looks great; and they have a 30 ride warranty, should any issues pop up with their repair work. If you want a deal on last year's gear, they probably have it. If you want clearance gear, they have it and more. They're pretty awesome. Most importantly, I don't feel like they ever oversell you. If you come in with a bike problem or question, their staff eagerly shares their wisdom. I needed my bars re-wrapped for the first time. They took it in, gave me a tutorial and had it done in 10-15mins. I stopped in this week during a 60-miler with a busted front derailer. I have a new bike that my dad got me-I am pretty sure it's just your run of the mill GI Joes bike, but it had two flats and a non functioning pump. I brought it here and the employee when and lifted it out of the truck, brough it in-filled em up for free and sold me a new pump that works. I may be back to have a basket added to the front. I am a disabled veteran. I was a runner and after my injures I could no longer run. The guys at Bike Gallery in Clackamas were great and helped me pick out a bike that I could ride and push myself. I was scared to ask for help because biking is a new world for me and everything is new and exciting. Tobin and Spencer in the front are always helpful and bare with me as I ask every question that comes to mind. I come in about once a week now to ask something new and those guys have been my go to. When I have a mechanical problem with my bike (it's usually user error) I go straight to Brad who is more then helpful as i learn about my bike. I don't know about the other locations, but this for one is a refreshingly non pretentious. If I'm getting parts or service I always go to Meticon because the prices are better. But the product prices at Bike Gallery are quite similar to REI, however, I would go to REI if you feel you need more product selection. In terms of actual bike purchases, I would go to with the Bike Gallery. The service is great. I tried the Trek Waubesa, Trek Ear, and Trek PDX. The staff were great, they really took the time to tell me about all the different bikes. If you really want to take the time to make a good bike purchase I would recommend you go in on the times that they aren't that busy. By the way I ended up liking the Trek PDX the best, it truly rocks! My girlfriend came in during the April 15th-17th Spring Sale and walked away with a great deal. The Townie Electra went from $439 to $390. Also, the Trek PDX went from $799 down to $659, was very tempted to purchase but I didn't have the money. read more

They even helped adjust and replace one of my brake pads in addition to helping me find a new tougher tire for commuting. We came in looking for a hybrid/commuter style bike to replace a 20ish year old mountain bike. After looking around, we found one that would work, but not in the correct frame size. Monkeys. Jon offered to get one sent over from another store, but when he called them, it wasn't built up. Monkeys again! Jon wrote down the pertinent info, and since we were making rounds, we could stop at one of the other locations. (Our decision - he was willing to have it built up) Helpful, lots of options, and only minor hesitation - it is Portland bike culture - when we mentioned that REI is our go-to bike shop (hey, they have yet to do us wrong, and always go above and beyond). My old bike is awesome. It's a pink 60s cruiser with a great basket and a lot of character. Riding it is as comfy as sitting in an easy chair. Until you get to a hill. Then it feels like dragging a hunk of steel up a mountain. Good for heading to the bar or a quick trip to the store. Not so good for, say, a 15 mile night ride. So off I went to find a more practical bike. And the bike gallery was great, and so helpful. John took a long time to help me find the right bike for me, something that was still comfortable to ride but was more practical for slightly longer rides. He didn't laugh at me when I asked stupid questions and he didn't pressure me into getting more than I needed. Prices were good, as was the selection. Not a friendly experience. Asked about ordering a Trek Domane SLR project one. Employee was unable to help determine if I could do a Frameset only. I asked for cardboard bike box if they had any, as i needed one to ship a bike. They gave me the box and i thanked the employee. He then told me it was $5 for the box. I asked when did they start charging for a cardboard box that they throw out. The employee became irritated and said ever sense he started working there 4 years ago. I told him he made my decision to buy a new bike there a lot easier, and that i would never buy anything from the shop again. The employee then said have a good day and walked away. Really Bike Gallery! Lose a customer over a cardboard box that you would have thrown away. read more

We drove 200 miles to see about a couple of less expensive bikes at a Dick's SG. After an awful experience at two of the stores, I called Bike Gallery about availability of a couple specific Treks bikes. We got there about 10 minutes before closing, but they let us take a test ride, made some adjustments to the bikes, and gave us a very fair deal on the bikes. Plus, one of the guys figured out a way to make my old rear bike rack work. The entire time, all four guys were very helpful and friendly, even though the they didn't get out of there until after 7:30! This morning we figured out they actually closed at 6pm. You would not have known it by their attitudes. That is called SERVICE!! PS - I will never step foot in a Dick's again for anything. read more

If you're unfamiliar with the Bike Gallery chain, I HIGHLY recommend them. Their staff is knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and helpful. They take their work seriously without being 'uppity' like some other bike stores. After previously visit the Bike Gallery location in the Hollywood area, we stopped by the Division store to look at a bike the other location didn't have in stock. Boy, am I glad we did. The Division location is far more convenient when it comes to parking, and is not as crowded as the Hollywood store. The selection is just as good, if not better, than the Hollywood location, and I found the staff to be friendlier and more knowledgeable. My husband and I were first-time bike buyers, so they walked us through every step of the way. A couple more reasons why I preferred the Division location: - They fully explained the Bike Gallery's complementary tune-up after 6 months - They showed us the ins and outs of the bike - They even sent us a thank-you letter the week after our purchase! So all-in-all, I've been satisfied with every Bike Gallery visit. But if you're looking for the best, check out the Division location. read more

I went in guessing my son's bike was a 20 inch bike. Needing training wheels, they helped me quickly, effectively, we're nice and honest. But best of all I got training wheels in Stock for the same price as Amazon. I was told I could return as long as I didn't use them. Totally fit my son's bike, easy to assemble, attach to bike with simple easy to understand instructions. For my next needs I will be going back. I went in over a year ago to get a commuter bike. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and straight forward. I got a Trek and had it outfitted for Portland weather. The service team did an excellent job. I was very satisfied with my purchase as a new bike commuter. Over the next 13 months I commuted 99% of the time and over 4000 miles.. i had my Bike serviced twice at the bike gallery and both times the service team went above and beyond the basics. The service and sales team was so amazingly helpful in answering all my newbie questions and concerns. My bike always came out of service in pristine condition. Such a joy to ride a bike straight out of being serviced. At the one year mark I had a full overhaul. The service team replaced the necessary items and did not try to sell me more than what was needed. I absolutely love this store and company. The store/ company hire great employees and I never once felt like it was a snobby bike store. I have gone in other stores and felt looked down on for asking Newby questions. I also had a light that I bought from them that stopped working after four months. I took it in and they gave me a new one no questions asked. I would never take my bike or buy from another store in Portland. Unfortunately I have moved out of the Portland area recently and have to find a new bike store that will be as great as Bike Gallery. read more

We bought 2 Trek bikes and had a top notch experience. Brandon and his crew, especially Bill Fuller, went way beyond the call of duty. I didn't realize until much later that we arrived just before closing time. Not only did they not mention that when we ended up staying for an additional hour, but they let us test ride the bikes and checked them out both before and after the test ride to make sure the bikes where properly set up and tuned.
