I had 2 amazing surgeries on my feet with Dr. Nicholas Wessling, MD Trauma Surgeon. He Explained everything, was kind and listened to my concerns . I had a TERRIBLE experience with Dr. Galano. I went to him for my hip, I was in excruciating pain. He said maybe PT and PRP. Maybe it would work maybe it wouldn't and it's not covered by insurance. I found him condescending, arrogant, unkind, and combative. In person and on video visit . He could not help me so I went to HSS found an amazing doctor and am no longer in pain anymore because they know (HSS) what they're doing. I called & booked an appointment. I gave all of my health insurance information to the woman who scheduled me. She advised that the doctor was in network & would see me the following week. 2 days before the appointment, the office called to reschedule my appointment because "something came up". Then, I got another call later the same day saying that the doctor that I was scheduled with was still "pending" in my network. They asked if I wanted to keep my appointment & I obviously refused. The "support staff," which really doesn't deserve the name, is incompetent. A doctor here said I should NOT have a procedure. The procedure had a two-word name, but I could remember only one word. I wanted to get the full name before seeing another doctor. So I basically needed ONE WORD. I called four times over three days, even leaving a message for the department manager. Nothing. Dr. Benjamin Bedford was useless to me. Not only did he not do anything for me, he redirected me to another Doctor after wasting our time which could have been avoided ahead of time. I did not like his demeanor nor did I like his assistant that just walked into the room and stayed there without introducing herself which was extremely rude. I was really uncomfortable with her presence and they should have asked for my consent or have the very least explained who the stranger was. That was my first and last time going to this place. I went to NY Orthepedics in February this year as I had a meniscus issue. I saw Dr Bedford who asked me to do an MRI. I paid a few hundreds for this (and my insurance even more), for what took 5 minutes since the doctor couldn't do anything without the MRI result A few days later, the doctor's office called me and said they had my result,and passed me Dr Bedford. He explained me the MRI result in a few minutes, and asked me if I wanted a surgery. I said yes, and later back out as I preferred doing PT (no need to say that he didn't tell me anything about PT) Anyway, I received a bill for $150 that I'm disputing now. The doctor is the one who called me, and he wants me to pay for it. Are you serious !! read more

This place is a factory and you will be treated as such. After you have an appointment, it is impossible to get anyone to do anything. They bill you without checking your insurance. I got a bill after 2 years ago, even though I have been there since and had the same insurance. You will ALWAYS go to voice mail and you will never get a call back. The front desk staff is unfriendly and seem untrained. I saw one of the doctors and badly needed injections. I followed up and called 6x to get help and to get the insurance person to help me get approval. I needed the doctor to do a consult but it never got done. I beg and pleaded for a response. I really wish I would have read these reviews before being seen here. Like others have said, they are insane with their billing. I found out that I was billed for a completely different brace than what was given to me. I found both braces in question online and the one they charged me for is about 3x the price of the brace they actually gave me. I reached out to the brace company and found out they actually did the wrong billing code. When I told the billing department for NY Orthopedics they gave me the runaround for months and then came back saying that the doctor and the manager had said that they would have charged even more for the brace I had. How does that make any sense when online the one I had was significantly cheaper?! I'm hoping my review will save others from having to go through what I am going through. read more

I would never go back! They were prompt to schedule an appointment, and managed to send a bill months later but it is impossible to get a hold of them. I am appalled that they would schedule me for an appointment with an out of network doctor (Dr. Bedford) after providing my insurance information at the time of scheduling. They waited to tell me this until I arrive at the place at 5pm when only this out of network doctor could see me. Very deceiving, hence please be aware. I saw the director of NY orthopedics I believe his name is Stephen. And I have to say he has an amazing reputation but I just can't see why. Not a nice character at all and I wouldn't recommend him to anyone unless you need a whole knee reconstruction because then maybe just maybe he will actually care about you. But someone like me that may not need that much work was not cared about. You can come here if you want to be treated like a subject that students learn about. There's no privacy when there's 2 learning students in the room. I wish I would have know that is was going to be this way, a waste of time. I am sad I spend $50 on a copay here. I wish I just would have never came so I hope I'm saving you for you copay, because if you have minor things wrong the doctor will look at you and say "physical therapy, see you in 4 months" when you have legs that you can barely stand on. I hope he reads this message and takes in to consideration the way he treats patients. Avoid once again. This place has bad reviews for a reason. Remember that. If you do decide to come get a second opinion because I did the same day. And I was told completely opposite from why I was told by this doctor. So keep that in mind! Good luck. read more

If I could give a negative rating, I would do so. I went there recently for an appointment with Dr. Stephen Lee. I was a returning patient as I had seen Dr. Lee several years ago for a previous injury and he was great. I would give this place a negative rating because of the rude, ignorant and disrespectful and biased receptionist. I was so offended by her that I left the office without seeing the doctor to just get away from her. All of the other people in the office were looking at her in horror and even the other staff members tried to tell her to stop and tried to intervene to no avail. Incompetent. Doctors are fine. They diagnosed me that I needed an MRI. Then, after calling the office weekly for over one month to get the MRI approval, which I never got, I went to another practice and got my MRI within a week. Don't waste your time with this practice. read more

Great experience overall. Dr. Wessling took very good care of me. I was extremely nervous going into an elective hardware removal surgery + arthroscopy for my ankle in February. Dr. Wessling was very reassuring! He explained the procedure thoroighly as well as the duration. I had a very successful surgery along with great instruction on how to take care of my foot and nurse it back to health afterwards. I was back to business as usual within 10 days. Bedside manner is great and he is very thorough. Very satisfied. If you ever need a orthopedist, Dr. Wessling is the way to go! read more

I hurt my finger at work and went to the local Urgent Care. I was informed I fractured my 5th digit. I was told to find a specialist. The next day I googled finger specialist. I called three different places, and NY Orthopedic was the only place that got me in the same day. I was checked in quickly with no problems. I waited 15 mins before being taken to a room. I was seen by Dr. Klion. He was very informative and patient. The front staff was really busy but professional and helpful. I just recommend they have more people answering the phones and just have 2 people handling the patients. I also appreciate and like the diversity of the staff. It's a real reflection of New York. The front desk receptionist, Aneshia was really helpful and resourceful. She took her time to explain the billing process. I could either go with my insurance or Workers comp. I don't understand these bad reviews! Dr. Bedford took care of me after I fractured my knee and he and the staff were very patient and thorough in answering all my questions. This office is conveniently located off the 6 train, and they are very organized. I like that they use an automated patient reminder system and portal to send you texts, emails and phone calls re: future appointments. The staff were all very nice and caring, the waiting area is large and clean, and I've never waited longer than 15-20 minutes. Very happy about my experience here. read more

I had a snowboarding injury and was referred here from cityMD. I saw Dr. Nicolas and was diagnosed with a fractured elbow. I then called work and informed them I needed to go on light duty, I dropped off the form at NY orthopedics, and it took a week for the dr to sign it for me, even with my daily phone calls where they assured me it would be completed that day. The appointment went well, but if you need anything outside of the appointment you can forget it. They don't care about your situation at all. read more

I have been seeing Dr David Matusz for my back since 2007. He is an awesome spine surgeon with the best "bed side manner" I have ever received by a doctor. He did my first spine surgery, when I broke my facet joint, in 2008 and just did another when one of my discs popped out and crushed my nerves. Had a spinal disc fusion procedure performed by Dr Dave Matusz and have had a 100% recovery.

I can't believe that it's taken me this long to write a review of Dr. Matusz (this review is for Dr. Matusz specifically). I had my spine surgery back in Dec. 2015 at Lenox Hill Hospital (if I recall correctly). I was a 43 y.o. female in excruciating back pain from numerous spinal conditions: 1) Bertolotti's connection 2) Neural foraminal stenosis 3) Osteophytes 4) disc degeneration at the L4-L5. I think nearly every spine doctor I consulted with wanted to do a spinal fusion...however I was very reluctant to go this path because I read many articles in reputable journals that documented that often a spinal fusion can lead to a lifetime of negative consequences and future back pain. I wanted a more conservative approach. After speaking with Dr. Matusz for 45 mins. he listened carefully to all my concerns and agreed to perform a number of more conservative procedures to help my various spinal conditions, but with no promises that my back pain would be completely relieved. Further, the possibility still existed that I would need another spinal procedure in the future. I weighed the pros and cons and decided I could live with that. That even if I achieved a 50% improvement in my pain level that I could at least tolerate that. Well I have to say, going to this doctor was one of the best decisions I've ever made. After my spinal surgery, I felt about 90% better within just weeks-months of the procedure. Now it's been 4 years since I had my spine surgery and I still feel great (in terms of back pain). I can live a normal life again nearly pain free (I still get the occasional sore back if I push the envelope - massage & yoga helps). I realize that someday I might need another procedure down the road, however, I am EXTREMELY grateful that I found a doctor that didn't rush me right into a spinal fusion procedure. Dr. Matusz is an awesome, compassionate and competent doctor and you'd be in very good hands choosing him as your doc. read more

Through my insurance company I found this office. The front desk staff at NY Orthopedics helped me find a doctor who took my insurance and serviced the spine. That same morning I slipped a disc in my lower lumbar. There was an appointment available that afternoon and I only hoped that the doctor would have good bedside manners and get to the source of my pain. As soon as I walked into the office I was greeted with a warm hello, the paperwork was simple and easy to complete and the wait time was less than 7 minutes. What I also appreciated are the chairs in the waiting area. For people with back pain, the option to sit in a chair that is higher up, is so helpful! All the staff who I encountered are great. Doctor Stephen Nicholas is the one who examined me and told me in regular language what my issue was. He told me what to do and I followed his orders. He called me himself to provide the MRI results. And his team even called me a couple of days after to see if I had any questions about anything. Wow! Talk about good bedside manners. I am grateful to have had such a positive experience with this office. I highly recommend. read more

The best healthcare service I've ever received. I came in with a sports injury around the ankle/midfoot and wanted everything taken care of quickly. What initially drew me to this place was the fact that they have an x-ray on site, which means I wouldn't have to go back and forth everywhere and waste so much time, and they take my healthcare insurance. When I got there, I filled in some paperwork. Then they took my x-rays very promptly, 10 minutes before my appointment time. Immediately afterwards, I was called into a room and was seen by Meredith, my doctor's PA. She was amazing! Meredith went through some palpations and manual muscle tests, then explained everything in terms that were very easy to understand (seriously, even a young child could understand!). She left the room afterwards for less than two minutes to check my x-rays and came back with my doctor, Dr. Bedford. He was very helpful and said I would need a boot. And they had it on site! A couple minutes later, someone came in with my boot and helped me put it on. From there, I was done. The receptionists even wrote a note to my university to provide transportation for me due to my injury. Filling out the new patient forms to leaving the site with my problem all fixed took less than an hour! Incredible! I would definitely recommend coming here if you have a sports injury and want it taken care of as fast as possible, and with great service. read more
