Upon meeting Dr. Goldstein I was convinced that surgery could be minimally invasive and solve my problem. A few weeks later I was done. Dr. Goldstein is a professional surgeon in every sense. I had a thorough screening before ever deciding to do the surgery. Dr. Goldstein and his staff never pressured me one way or another, just made sure I had all the information I could need. The day of the surgery was quick and easy. I was back home 5 hours after I went in. And other than typical post-op pains, I have been almost completely pain free since then. It's like being reborn.

Other specialists told me the reduction was poor and should have been more anatomic. When I asked why the gap remained, he said, "You can totally blame your body for that." I found this cold and dismissive. I was not warned about the risk of arthritis, and no CT was obtained before I was cleared to return to sports, even though this type of fracture is well known to be difficult to assess on X-ray. I felt my concerns about the incomplete reduction and the long-term consequences of the incongruent joint surface were repeatedly dismissed rather than seriously addressed. Although known for treating elite athletes, as an ordinary patient I did not feel I received the same attention or accountability. I now live with chronic pain and limitations that have taken away many sports and activities I loved. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend him.

I have never met Dr. Friedrich Boettner. This review is based upon telephone conversations with the…read moreDoctor and two members of his office staff. The calls were made in order to set up an appointment. It turned out that, as a result of these conversations, I decided not to see Dr. Boettner, and gave him one star. Over the preceding ten months, I had been evaluated and treated for hip and knee pain by two orthopedic surgeons. Both diagnosed my condition as osteoarthritis. Recently, I decided to seek a another opinion. Dr. Boettner was recommended by a family friend. I went online and looked at a large number of his ratings and reviews, including 17 on Google. Almost all raters and reviewers gave him five stars. On October 2, 2019, I called Dr. Boettner's office. The woman (referred to as "A" below) who answered the phone spoke in a flat, detached and somewhat unwelcoming tone. She informed me that, prior to making an appointment, I would need to answer a number of questions in order for Dr. Boettner to decide whether he would accept me as a patient. Once the questions were answered, "A" said that, in addition to my responses, the doctor would have to see prior x-rays documenting my condition. This was where things began to go wrong. Just to be certain, I asked "A" whether a CD containing the x-ray images would be acceptable. (A CD is the customary medium via which such images are shared between physicians). I was told that a CD was not acceptable. I was puzzled by this response, so I asked "A" whether she meant that I had to send the actual x-ray film. She replied in the affirmative. I then called one of the orthopedists who had previously evaluated me and spoke with a member of the doctor's administrative staff. I told her what "A" had said, and she expressed surprise because, to her knowledge, x-ray studies were almost always sent via CD. I called Dr. Boettner's office and left a voicemail. Late the next morning, since I had not received a return call, I called the office again and spoke with someone other than "A". I shall refer to her as "B". I explained the reason for my call. After telling "B" the outcome of the previous day's conversation with "A", she informed me that I could, in fact, send my X-rays via CD. In view of the lack of clear, unambiguous agreement between "A" and "B" with respect to what Dr. Boettner required, I felt the need to speak with him directly. I asked "B" if I could do so. She told me that the doctor was not available. I then told "B" that I would like to leave him a message. "B" asked me what the message was about. I gave her a very general answer. She replied that this was inadequate and that I needed to be more specific. I was becoming frustrated and annoyed by this intrusive "interrogation". So, in an attempt to provide another reason for my needing to speak with Dr. Boettner, I told "B" that I was reluctant to divulge potentially sensitive medical information over the phone. "B", sounding somewhat confused, put me on hold. A few minutes later, "A" came on the phone. She asked me what the problem was and I explained it. After some more back-and-forth, she reluctantly stated that she would give my message to Dr Boettner. On the following day, October 3, 2019, I received a call from Dr. Boettner at 9:53 P.M. I was busy at the time and did not answer. I called him back at 1017 PM. Dr. Boettner answered the phone in a gruff, irritated tone of voice. I began to state my concerns about his office staff's apparent confusion regarding the format in which he wished X-rays to be sent to him. He interrupted me in mid-sentence and appeared about to lose his temper. Raising his voice, he stated loudly and angrily that I was wasting his time with "administrative" issues. I was shocked and completely taken aback his grossly inappropriate behavior and informed him that I would not be using his services. He acknowledged this statement gruffly and terminated the call. I am a Doctor of Medicine, Board-certified in a specialty other than Dr. Boettner's. I have been in practice for forty years and can't recall ever being treated in such an egregiously rude, disrespectful and abusive manner by a fellow physician.

HSS is #1 for a reason and I'm privileged to have been able to partake in their available knowledge and skill. I'd always heard it was a bit like a "factory" being there but i very much disagree unless that means "the trains always run on time." From security to the nursing assistants, check in staff, waiting room, anethesiologist (Dr. Nigel _?__, nurses, surgeon (Dr. Boettner), I have nothing but praise. However I chose to write today because of the 1 star review posted by "Dr. D." Dr. D who wrote the 1 star review is a lucky man indeed to have gone 40 years without ever having experienced what he saw as "grossly inappropriate behavior" on the part of Dr. Boettner and his staff. I have to say I'd be pretty annoyed to receive a call back at 10:15 PM (since I go to bed at 10) to listen to a complaint about my administrative assistants not being clear as to the type of X-ray to be sent. In fact when I had my X-rays done (not through HSS) I was frustrated because Dr. Boettner's office kept saying they had not arrived and the radiology dept kept saying they had already sent it. After three times of asking them to send again I went back to the radiology office myself and asked if i couldn't have a CD for myself so I could send it or bring it in. It was at that point when I learned they indeed never had sent in the CD of the X-rays but rather the report the radiologist had written which is not what I ever asked for. They supplied me the CD then and there and I left. Where the fault lies I don't know. I don't care I just want things remedied as quickly as possible. Perhaps there was a mix-up in communication regarding reports and CD's for Dr. D. Just as camera's no longer use film, I believe x-ray technology has moved away from it as well so asking for "film" X-rays would have probably been absurd. Anyway, stuff happens. Everyone is working three times harder with less and for less. No one has to be rude but it seems a mix-up over the type of X-rays you needed, to the point of going to the Surgeon for help or to complain about the confusion could also be seen as rude and intrusive.

Well this thing that decided to raise up on my toe has been getting bigger and bigger. It was getting irritated from all my walking. I asked three doctors and was given three different answers as to what it is. I tried wart remover a couple years ago and that made it worse. I decided to leave it alone since it didn't bother me. Well finally today I decided to visit Dr. Rosen's office to make an appointment. 177 East 87th has two or three entrances. Lucky for me I asked someone entering the building and I was told Mt. Sinai was inside. Dr. Rosen is affiliated with Mt. Sinai. I made my way to the 4th floor following a lady that had an appointment with him. I was glad I went in to make my appointment because I was asked if I wanted to see him today. I was ecstatic. I just wanted to get this thing off my toe. After filling out about five forms and presenting my insurance cards I wasn't there very long before he squeezed me in between his exiting appointments. Within less than two hours, I had X-rays, blood circulation tests, and had a long talk with two of his staff AND Dr. Rosen about my medical history and current state of health. The diagnosis was made of bone cyst (or spur). He said he would remove the protruding skin to give me relief. He gave me a local numbing medicine (like Novocain of the toe) that wears off in five hours. We will see! Next steps; I keep the bandage on until Friday and then just use a Band-Aid. I return in a week to have him be sure it's healing. He is now Marianne's Podiatrist. His staff made me feel like I was a long time patient. They are very laid back and nice, including Dr. Rosen. They really have a system in place to move multiple patients through their tests and appointments without a hitch. I was thoroughly impressed. I'm happy they will see me early in the morning next week. I'm praying for a clean bill of health!
