My 2013 Audi S5 needed a transmission. Let me start by saying from beginning to end one of the top places I've been too. So far so good . About 3 weeks ago I bought a car not knowing The transmission was garbage.. . I got quoted from other places over $3,000 for a rebuilt on an "06 hhr :-( with out them even looking at car ....Ny1 transmission was able to do for almost half the price, Fred was amazing! Helped me feel calm in a very stressful situation. I Hope I never have to get anything done on my car again, but if I do I will definitely be calling/coming here, my new go to for any car troubles. Oh Marty, Marty, Marty, you are my savior. Where should I begin? Marty (the owner of the shop) is by far THE nicest and most trustworthy mechanic I have found here in the City. I moved here recently and living in the Bronx has made it easier for me to have my car with me. Unfortunately for me, I started having issues with my '02 Camry; slipping gears and a check engine light. Knowing a thing or two about cars, I was pretty sure it was a sign of transmission problems. I also knew that making it back to Rhode Island to get to my family mechanic wasn't happening. Being a female with out-of-state license plates, I wasn't about to bring CamCam to just anyone. Like Autumn said below, I didn't want to be taken advantage of regarding prices and unnecessary work. Two months of researching mechanics in my area, I kept coming across NY1 Transmissions. After reading the reviews and looking at pictures provided here on Yelp, I decided to give Marty a call. Boy am I happy I did. After briefly explaining to Marty the issues I was having, he told me to get my car towed to him (I have AAA or else I would have used his tow service) so he could take a look at it. Luckily for me, Marty is available 24 hours (LITERALLY) so I was able to get it there on a Wednesday evening after work. By Thursday morning, I had a phone call explaining I needed a transmission rebuild. After freaking out momentarily (to myself) because I knew how expensive transmissions can be and if it was too expensive my parents would just junk the car, Marty gave me his price and I couldn't believe how fair it was. After giving him the approval to go ahead and fix the car, not even a week went by when I got another phone call from him letting me know the car would be done in 20 minutes. I couldn't believe how fast they got it done! Normally he stays until 6:30pm but he waited a few extra minutes for me to get there to pick it up the next night. He printed out his warranty information (1 year or 12,000 miles whatever you hit first) and also let me know any other little issues he found which really came in handy since I have to get my car inspected soon. My go to shop from now on as they do far more work than tranmissions. I have sudden transmission problems and literally had problems driving up one block without my car stalling. After getting quotes from 3 shops who quoted me astronomical prices without doing a proper diagnostic test, I stopped with little hope left at NY1 Transmission. I really feel that a higher power led me here because from the door I was greeted in a very friendly manner by Marty. Before quoting me he took the car for a test run and then ran a diagnostics test on the vehicle. Marty is the old school kind of car repairman, the kind who has a passion for cars and actually has compassion for people and understands how expensive car repairs can be therefore, he has an interest to lessen you of your burdens than he does to rip you off. Understanding that customers come back when they are well taken care of. That's Marty and that's everyone he has working for him at this transmission spot. Top Notch Quality Care. He quoted me 1100 cheaper!! than the other rip off spots who obviously had more interest in taking advantage of a female who they think doesn't know any better. Marty fixed my car within 2 days as promised.. Not like other shops who tell you 2 days and the 2 days roll into 10 days. I got a NEW transmission no used parts, with a year warranty. I will certainly be back for other jobs that I need done, quality service and products what more can you ask for. They have customers who come from all over. When I was there getting my car problem diagnosed, there was a couple there from Westchester NY who only goes to Marty. If you are hesitant don't be. Ok, where so I start? I went to this place because of the great reviews but I'm sorry to say I had a bad experience here. Let's start by saying that they strip my log nuts because they couldn't find the key to opened them. Then neglect to tell me that is what they did, then for two days I'm driving around the city without 5th log nut. Finally noticed something missing and called the shop and the mechanic said he couldn't find the key for the locks so he broke my wheel locks, while I had called to the owner/manager and told him where they were. I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed in the service, the quality of the service and workmanship of this repair shop and considering filing a complaint with DMV. They charged me $250 to replace brakes and rotors for a minivan and two belts.i didnt argue with the price then they called that it was ready and it really wasn't I had to wait for 3 whole hours in order for them to finish the repairs.pleqse do yourself a favor next time you use this shop double and quadruple check everything, they aren't thrust worthy or take your business somewhere else. The additional work that was done here:new battery, oil change and engine tune up I will have to wait and see how it goes. The shop has no waiting area and customers aren't encouraged to wait for their cars, you are told to leave a they will call you with repair estimate. As a mechanic ( even though not car mechanic) I like to see that repairs or parts need or will be replaced before they fail, o at least be part of the process, it's only my hard earned money we are spending here. First off - customer service was TOP NOTCH. I came in, described my problem (noticed a transmission leak) and Marty was super friendly and took a look. He had is guys inspect the vehicle, and called me later in the day to give me a summary of the work that needed to be done, as well as the cost. He pointed out that there was, in addition to the transmission leak, a small oil leak that probably should be addressed. He wasn't pushy about getting the small oil leak done, which I appreciated because to me that's the sign of an honest mechanic - one who will tell you what's urgent and what isn't. I'm someone who used to work on his own car a lot, so I know when a mechanic is BS-ing me. But now I live in the city and don't have a garage - and I can tell you, their diagnosis was fair and completely accurate. He gave me a summary of the work order and cost for each issue and the work was done. I came in to pick up my car a few days later, and it was good as new. He took me over to the car, showed the locations of repair and summarized everything done. They even cleaned my engine bay for me! When it came time to pay, it was EXACTLY what they said it would be, no surprises. It was very reasonable in cost, and I would not hesitate at all to bring my car back there for any necessary repairs. Thanks Marty! read more

March 2020: This is an update to my review written about NY1 Transmission by John S. well over a year ago on google reviews. The Good news: the transmission done on 1/25/2018 for the 2001 Toyota Corolla is still working as it should shifting nicely. No problems there. Now to the bad. Problems: 2 separate issues come forth and the car was brought to NY1 Transmission to get fixed; not blaming them for the problems but for the shabby repair work. Problem: The Knock Sensor--- charged $380.00 by NY1 Transmission done on 6/12/2018. My daughter had a knock sensor code come forth a couple of months after fixing the transmission with NY1 Transmission. She took it here and they replaced the knock sensor after verifying it was the knock sensor that was bad. They put in a new knock sensor but the way the mechanic wired it, soon after the three month warranty expired, the knock sensor code came back. I called Freddy in Sept. 2018 about it and he said there was nothing he could do since the 3 month warranty had just expired. He previously checked it and told me the knock sensor wire was coming loose and kept separating. To me, Freddy sounded like the only option was to pay another $380 to repair the knock sensor again. Not satisfied with Freddy's response, I took it upon myself and found where the wire was separating, connected it with electrical tape and the knock sensor code went away. But once again, the code came back about a year and a half later. Knock sensor repair work on most vehicles are costly and labor intensive. My question is: why didn't the mechanic do the job properly by replacing the connector, using heat shrink tubing to seal the connectors and applying electrical tape to correct the problem in the first place? I took it to another mechanic in Feb. 2020 and he corrected the problem by doing the proper fix as stated above. The knock sensor code is gone, fixed. The cost $$$? Whatever I wanted to give him. He was a kind and thoughtful mechanic who easily fixed NY1's faulty repair work in minutes. Shame on NY1 Transmission!!! Problem: The Valve Cover Gasket--- charged $100 by NY1 Transmission on 4/4/2018. my daughter took the car to NY1 for a leaking valve cover gasket. One of Freddy's mechanic supposedly took care of the gasket leak. As usual, I check her vehicle monthly and noticed an oil leak in the engine bay. I monitored the leak for a while. Then one day, the car started shaking and I pulled the spark plugs and noticed oil in the spark plugs wells, leaning on the suspicion of a leaking valve cover gasket. Sure enough, it was. (The faulty gasket repair work revealed itself in Feb. 2020, less than 2 years later.) The oil was leaking through the gasket where it should protect the spark plug wells. When my father in law and I dismantled the valve cover, the "gasket replacement" was hard and looked like it was either never changed or they used a cheap replacement part (my suspicions.) I bought 4 new spark plugs, a new valve cover gasket, cleaned up the mating area, used gasket maker in 2 areas near the timing chain and tightened up the valve cover. Everything went without a hitch and best of all, no more leaks. My father in law and I had to fix NY1's faulty repair work ourselves. Once again, shame on NY1 Transmission. Ultimately, I am pleased with the way NY1 rebuilt the transmission and have no complaints about that, but as to the mechanic(s) who were responsible for the knock sensor and valve cover gasket repairs (these were done on 2 separate days), I question their ability as mechanics. They need a refresher course and need to pay attention to detail in how they repair vehicles going forward. I want people to be aware so they can make an informed decision as to whether they should take their car here for repair work. These 2 repair jobs (knock sensor & valve cover gasket) cost almost $500 and honestly, we did not get our moneys worth and for these reasons I will not be a returning customer. read more

I could not be happier with this place. Prince and Marty are the BEST. I won't go to anyone else from now on. They've done several repairs on our minivan within our budget; they always call first; they help me prioritize work if I can't swing the cost of everything at once. They even got my car inspected at the place down the block for me, and waited to do it on the first day of the next month so I could get another month out of my inspection sticker, just as I asked. They are honest, kind, and fair. I trust them wholeheartedly and am so happy to have found my home for anything car-related. I want to tell everyone about them. Very poor quality ,even worse service ,staff is extremely unprofessional and too expensive.. I would like to sue due to the fact my car is in worst shape then when I brung it in....First off the price they quoted was nowhere near accurate ..second it took 4 months (yes they had my vehicle for 4 months)...3rd after 4 months my car still isn't working ...4th they destroyed my car (my hood won't stay open they used the wrong antifreeze caused my car to overheat and a hose to burst .. I'm missing my shift lock and other small parts, my emergency brake no longer works as well) ...5th they put scratches on my car . ..6th My window was broke and car broken into when I went to pick up my car .. 7th they returned the car with a leaking transmission & broken steering wheel missing many parts..8th my check engine light is still on for a transmission code issue after I paid them over 4k in total & waited over 5 months .. 9th my car broke down twice leaving the shop & I had to get it towed back twice & they don't reimburse you ...10th they blame other people for things they obviously damaged..... If you care about your vehicle and are planning on keeping it running properly don't bring it here .. they will victimize you and cause you to sell your car after you paid 5k to get it fixed .... Had my transmission rebuilt from him. Had nothing but problems with the car after. After I drive back to Arizona where I had my normal guy who does transmission work for me, he took it apart and found that first of all, on the receipt, he does not list any parts that he repairs or replaced. Also, the warranty that he did give was written in such a way that he could easily weasel out of it. After my guy took it the transmission and pulled it apart, he found that the torque converter that was in there was defective and needed a complete rebuild. Also, the planetary had to be replaced, a snap ring was actually placed on backwards, and 2 clutch parts were bad. For referencing sake, the car was a 2003 Toyota Camry with a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. No modifications from stock or variation d fromem parts were ever used. The car had approx 225000 miles on it. He charged me 1400 for the "rebuild". The cost to have the work done properly and to fix his (marti is his name) mistakes, 1700 Do yourself a favor, stay clear of this shop. He may advertise as the cheapest rebuild in the area, but, as he said to me, which I should have realized as a red flag, is that he "knows how and where to cut corners". The only thing that I will say positive about him, is that he did wait for me after his normal closing time.
