I called my family doctor the next day and he didn't have any space to fit me in for a shot until 2 days later, so I had to resort to walk-in clinics. I called the one I frequent, but they said they couldn't fit me in unless I go in at 2:30pm and wait, I could have, but I have places to be. Which is when I found Super Clinic on Google. I called Super Clinic and the receptionist said I could go in for the shot, she sounded a bit slow on the phone, not sure if I just spoke to fast for her (which I tend to do), or if she just didn't understand me. I went within the next hour and found that the clinic shares the same space as a pharmacy (on Pharmacy). There was no one waiting in the waiting area, which was nice for me. The receptionist was a bit slow. She wasn't particularly friendly, didn't smile. I held out my OHIP card waiting for her to take it, I kind of like offered it to her. She asked me if I had a preference of female doctor (which I didn't), but I could see it would be a concern for women in various cultures/religions that prevents their contact with men other than their husbands. A male doctor tended to me, asked me my issue, I told him I needed the shot. He came back with the vial and injected it into me. I was in and out of that place within 10 minutes. I think Super Clinic just became my new go-to walk-in.

The woman did not say more than a few words her whole time there. When looking at the issue(my 80 y/o mother in laws swollen ankles, the right being far worse than the left), she just kept poking it and watching the dent appear in the water retaining area. When I asked if she had any idea of the cause, she said no, and that she was confused by it (???). She seemed uncertain of even what to do or say! In the end, after my mother in law basically coached her, she prescribed some water pills and left. I agree that OHIP needs to review this organization and the doctors credentials within! Ps I Googled the doctors name, and could not find it anywhere!!!! ***next day update: my husband has now been waiting at the pharmacy for over an hour because the prescription dosage this doctor wrote does not make sense. Pharmacist has to connect with National Home Doctors to resolve because the prescription pad she used doesn't even include her name and contact info. In hindsight, although my MIL is bedridden, we would have been better off to take her to a walk-in clinic instead of using this service. And as a footnote to yesterday's visit, our doctor also did not wash her hands upon arrival , or wear gloves. She actually also didn't even listen to my MILs heart until I asked her to do so when I saw her putting away her stethoscope, which she had used to take my MILs BP AFTER my husband asked her to do that! I will be looking for a way to complain to the MOHLTC about this!

Thanks to Medicalert, I actually wear a medical bracelet…read more I thought the medical bracelets in pharmacies were butt-ugly growing up, so I rarely wore mine; much to the chagrin of coworkers and friends (who actually had to try and remember what my big allergies were, just in case). Yeah, I know, stupid me. I think I've been a Medicalert customer since 2001. I had a big trip that year so ordering a bracelet then would make sense. Medicalert has a comprehensive website and product offering. I started off with a gold filled personalized bracelet with links because I wanted something that matched the rest of my jewelry - and look good at the same time. When I lost that one, I ordered a gold filled one with pins (not smart). Then, I found the first bracelet just as the second one was dying. Wouldn't you know it? The first one conked out too shortly after. They also have sports bands, stainless steel bracelets, copper bracelets, sterling silver bracelets and beaded bracelets, as well as necklets and medical accessories. On the back of each medallion, they engrave your file number and most important medical information (E.g., Epileptic, Penicillin allergy, Epipen, etc.). If you were to get into get hurt and lose consciousness, medical professionals worldwide will zoom in on the Medicalert logo. They simply have to call the hot line to get your vital information, such as your doctor, next of kin and further details on your medical conditions. Place an order online and it's delivered within two to four weeks, or at least, that has been my experience. When you order, they send you a wallet card as well with all your vital information. However, it's much easier (and safer) to keep that at home when traveling. Think about it: what if you were mugged? You'd be giving the mugger very personal information! They phoned me less than 24 hours after placing my latest order to go over my file. What information did I want on the medallion? What information was I comfortable having just on the file? They could have emailed me but they took the time to call me, which was appreciated. It arrived just in time for my trip to Hawaii this summer. I have learned that although the gold and gold filled bracelets look pretty, that little bit of gold makes it weak. The bracelets that are made pins holding together the links are even more delicate. This last round, I ordered a stylish stainless steel bracelet. It's so sturdy that I wear it nearly all the time (except when I'm performing because it hits the keys). It's several steps up from those butt-ugly unpersonalized ones they still sell in the pharmacies.
