According to NYU's website, the Torch Club is "a private facility where New York University faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and NYU affiliates can gather socially over a meal, buffet selection or cocktails." Given that I am neither a graduate or an employee of the university, it's pretty ridiculous that I've been here a couple of times to enjoy some really good food . This isn't an actual restaurant or anything, though the decor might suggest otherwise. It feels like a fancy joint with some quality University catering. The food is quite decent by catering standards and would be considered a god send for school food. Depending on the occasion, they'll whip up a variety of food from lunchables to ethnic bunches. There isn't a lot of junk food available on any of the menus, which is a good sign for health freaks. The lunch buffet is of decent daily variety and at $11.95 is cheaper than some of their salads on their lunch menus. read more

I never even knew this place existed until I had lunch with a professor here! It's really pretty (pics attached), and the service is amazing. The prices really aren't bad, either! I had their risotto, potatoes on the side and cheesecake for dessert. The main dish didn't really look like risotto and was a bit bland, but their desserts are good. I came here with a voucher. To be honest, I didn't realize how fancy the decor was. You feel like you're eating in a country club. However, the lunch buffet is pretty self explanatory. The mashed potatoes were surprisingly tasty - garlicky and creamy - and the lemon chicken was moist. The salad bar is pretty decent; I appreciated that the Caesar salad wasn't doused in dressing. I recommend the coconut cake. The frosting is very, very good despite the pretty standard white cake. My water glass was kept full, and I enjoyed the basket of bread I was served, even though I was by my lonesome. read more

Located in a building that has multiple levels for dining, often professors and students end up here, although alumni and outside others are welcome to come. Appetizers and dishes that have a nice touch, but nothing outstanding here - the steak was medium-rare, but wasn't more tasty than what I could make at home, so I can't really recommend this more than anything else. How have I never reviewed my beloved Torch Club?!? I came here a couple times while at NYU with faculty for lunches and they were always pretty great meals by college food standards. I've come here for some alumni events since, and it's a pretty cool spot to hang at. Feels like an exclusive club with its fancy decor and quality catering. The food is typically sliders, chicken satays, dumplings, and fried tofu on a stick, I always enjoy it, maybe a bit too much, but then again, I love American bar food and such. If this is where my tuition money went, I am fine with that! Anyhoo, I look forward to returning! read more

I've had breakfast here for an event, and YUM! I've also been here for lunch, double yum! The service is wonderful, the food was great and the desserts were also yummy! The Torch is definitley one of those establishments that if you are a student feels like it has a barrier to entry. I'm glad to say it actually does not as a recent alumni event I went for there proved. While the food was just decent, I found the staff and service to be excellent. And the ambiance is perfect. This location has delicious warm apple cider and a little cachet because of its supposed exclusivity. With that said most of the items are a little over priced and the quality of the food - while good - is not fantastic or worth the price. Not my favorite place in the region but could be a good location if you're looking for something more formal. read more

We hosted an event last week at the Torch Club and we had a wonderful experience. It's extremely difficult to find a good venue in Manhattan that works with our budget but the Torch Club delivered on both the venue and food. Ross and his staff are wonderful to work with and were so accommodating by working with us to find extra space to host our program as well as last minute layout changes. And, after I spilled coffee on our name tags, Ross even offered to help us print up new ones! The staff was friendly, and the food was excellent, and the space is nice and offers flexibility for a wide variety of events. Cannot recommend this venue enough. We had our wedding reception here and everything was absolutely perfect. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, the catering was exquisite and Ross was so helpful and pivotal in making the night absolutely magical. They are extremely easy to work with and suited all of our needs, including the last minutes tweaks that any event is wont to produce. Me wife and I are extremely happy that we chose the Torch club and recommend it one hundred percent. We had a tiny ceremony and dinner for 70 guests at the main space and then partied in the downstairs room with a live band. read more

Looking for a suitable venue for a memorial for our son, we found The Torch Club. The venue was warm, the staff most accommodating and the food was plentiful and delicious. When the turnout exceeded the seats that were prepared, the staff seamlessly produced more. The kindness of the hostess and flexibility of the staff will be remembered. read more

Have attended and planned events at the Torch Club for two years now. Held a Rutgers Business School Alumni here recently and have had a positive response from those who attended. The locations is great for both those who live in NJ and NY. You cannot beat the cozy spaces provided and they employee an awesome staff. I look forward to working with Ross in the future. read more

I've been going to the torch Club for a few years and the food is always good. the decor is nice and the space is never packed but full enough that you know the food is worth it. Last night I attended an event and the crab cakes were delicious.I would recommend to colleagues. read more

We just had a Bat Mitzvah at the Torch Club this past weekend and it was a terrific event and so easy to plan! The events planner (Ross) had terrific ideas and made planning fun. The food was good and the service impeccable the night of the event. He ordered cookie dough for desert and made mocktails with pop rocks around the rim for the kids. I had occasion to attend a wedding reception at the venue. The food was exquisite and the service not only prompt, but warm and friendly. Having been to so many other occasions where either the food was second rate or the catering staff was surly, this place ensured that ceremony was a highly pleasurable experience. It is a tribute as well to the ability of its manager, Ross Chasko. He was always approachable and friendly, which heavily contributed to the festive atmosphere. Gay weddings can be sometimes be hectic, well most wedding probably are too. He was a calming presence who smoothly handled unexpected wrinkles in an efficient and professional manner. read more

We had a Sweet 16 party at the Torch Club, and our guests really enjoyed the charming venue. Ross, our event planner, is extremely professional and made everything happen. We had a DJ in 18 Below (basement), and main dining on 1st floor so the flow was ideal. Everyone enjoyed the food, and I would highly recommend the fried chicken - both juniors and adults enjoyed it so much I didn't even get to try it myself. came here with a group of people. the service was slow and the food was mediocre. the bread they gave us was dry. i ordered a salad (not enough dressing, very dry), the steak entree (chopped up and dry) and the mixed fruit for dessert. also they forgot my side which i asked for several times - finished my entree before i saw the side. the mixed fruit was fine but could have made it at home. will probably not come back. read more

A friend of ours held their pre-wedding reception at the Torch Club in early May 2015. We heard how great manager was who coordinated everything together for their event. He even offered to help bring the gift bags and favors over from their apartment a few blocks away if they wanted. Not sure of his name but he spoke with a British accent and wore glasses! From the moment we entered the Torch Club we were greeted and treated like VIP's firstly by being presented with a glass of wine within seconds of entering the space and then politely shown by the manager the direction as to where the reception was taking place. I have to say as one of the bridesmaids, everyone at the Torch Club were very accommodating... Firstly the first part - the reception ran over by 15-20 minutes and secondly we brought our speeches up from the beginning of the event to the end and with all of this they were very accommodating about it all. My friend even asked if she could have her vegetables freshly steamed instead of what was being offered on the buffet and the manager simply smiled and said of course and was back with some freshly steamed vegetables within minutes. Finally the British manager even allowed us to store some items in his office over the weekend so we could continue the festivities across the street at another bar after the event. I would totally recommend the Torch Club to anyone who wants to plan an event in the village. read more

I had a wonderful time planning my event with the staff and thought the staff was very elegant and added a wonderful touch to our special party. The food was much better than I expected as I ordered a custom buffet and tried to order food that would hold up well and listened to the feedback from the manager Ross and the chef about the selections. I was allowed access early to decorate and I followed the requests of the manager who accommodated us. All this created a wonderful and delicious party, plus we hired a great DJ/MC. I highly recommend this venue for a medium or small party. The ambiance without decor is very warm and cozy. We used the entry and lower level. I couldn't be happier with the total experience. I had a great time, all my guests had a great time. I never was pressured to go over my budget. Check out the traditional, classic decor. The fireplaces were great for family photos.
