I was here for a brief cocktail before meeting friends for dinner. Of course I ordered an Old Fashioned. (That Truffle Butter lobster roll looked soooo good, but I was having dinner too soon after and did not want to spoil my appetite.) The ambiance is warm and cozy and I had seen photos of the Edgar Allan Poe art on the wall, so of course I loved it. The cocktail was $30 after the tip. It was good, but probably not a 30 dollar cocktail. I remember 25+ years ago when the basement of this building was storage for Pace when I worked and lived downtown. It was a ghost town at that time and the concept for Beekman Hotel was probably did not even exist yet. Businesses were moving out of lower Manhattan at that time. We just checked out of our recent stay at The Beekman in the FiDi area of New York City. It's a historic property located in a well centralized and well connected area of town, convenient to both NYC subway system as well as the Brooklyn Bridge and Holland Tunnel for those driving. The hotel has vibe up the galore. It's main feature is its central atrium above The Temple Bar, which goes all the way up its nine floors. Rooms as expected for an older building in NYC will be small. Obviously, if you're in a suite you'll have more room, but regular rooms you can expect to fit two people comfortably, but three will feel cramped. There are two different category of base rooms. Ones that face the atrium and ones that are down individual hallways. If given the opportunity, choose the ladder as with the former, if you're a light sleeper you'll definitely be affected by the noise from the bar which does carry surprisingly far up the way. The Pros: -This is a really vibey property with all the aesthetics of historic downtown NYC living. -The Temple Bar. Chef Tom Colicchio's restaurant has all the elements of a NYC hit with the reservations to match. If given the opportunity, definitely take advantage of any benefits that the hotel might provide you for being a guest there. -Central location. From EWR, you can reach it via PATH and the subway just under 50 minutes or shorter and you're walking distance to Chinatown, Little Italy and Soho and a short subway ride to any area of town. The Cons: -Service was hit or miss. The front desk was extremely friendly upon check-in, but I was taken aback from the upsell...being a Globalist under the World of Hyatt program, I would have thought we would and could have been upgraded to a standard suite that was other than the Studio Suite. -Front door staff was hit or miss as well. Upon our arrival, no one was there to greet us or help us with our luggage and often when we returned to the hotel they just stood there without opening the door. -We were told that with our status we were afforded the high speed internet, but upon checkout noticed that we had been charged by the property. Now it wasn't a problem when we called to have it removed, but should that always be incumbent upon the guest to do so? In NYC, there are 3 Thompson Properties. The Central Park location, The Beekman and Gild Hall. Having stayed at both the Thompson proper and The Beekman, I was not surprised by the inconsistent service while also not surprised by the consistency of the experience. Whether good or bad, you know you're staying at a Thompson by certain elements present in the room. The Beekman just happens to be working with some restrictions, some of which it uses to it's benefit and others to it's detriment. Overall, for the price I find it hard for me to endorse another stay at this location, especially with the price point that Gild Hall offers and it's proximity to The Beekman. read more

Beautiful hotel in an excellent location close to the subway and MTA buses. Our room on the fifth floor was tidy and comfortable for our two night stay. Little things that could've been improved: - There are three elevators, but one of the elevators' indicator lights doesn't work or make a sound, so there were a few times we almost missed it. - There was some kind of event one night, so sound traveled up to our room lasting until after midnight - We're more than capable of opening doors by ourselves, but for a 5-star hotel with doormen, there were a number of times when we approached/reached for the door and they either just watched us struggle with the heavy door, or reached for it belatedly. Maybe it's because we don't look like what they expect a Beekman guest to look like, but I would've appreciated 5-star service for such an establishment. Pros: - Check-in was easy and the front desk employees were friendly and helpful. My partner asked for a toothbrush and razor because he forgot his at home, and they brought a dental kit and a shaving kit up shortly after. - Their free turn down service was a nice touch. After coming back on our first night, room service tidied up our room and supplied us with fresh water bottles. - Easy to store our bags after checkout and before our evening train back home. Overall I enjoyed our stay in such a convenient location and would definitely return. read more

The Beekman is old world charm meets modern-day conveniences. This establishment is one of my favorite hotels in the city. The decor and design is from days pasted and so interesting, seems like you discover new details each time you scan the establishment. The staff is professional, knowledgeable but not overly attentive which I really like. The bar is beautiful but everyone needs to spend some time in the Laissez Faire which is lively and always a great experience. Chose this hotel for a staycation for my partner and my anniversary this year. It was dog friendly (35lb and below) so we were able to bring one of our pup which was nice. We love the old school vintage style. The staff were all very friendly and professional. The check in and check out was quick and efficient. Used the AMEX Plat to book so we got a free room upgrade along with $100 towards dinner and $60 towards breakfast. We went to Temple Court for dinner and The Bar Room for breakfast. The room amenities were good. Best of all their shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body cream were from BOWMAKERS. They smelled SO GOOD. I love it so much. The scent was very fitting for the hotel. The hotel is also super convenient from other attractions. I'm a native New Yorker so I know the area pretty well. If you are a tourist, this is the spot! Joe's Pizza is also a block and a half away. The Oculus is also around 6min away. There are many attractions and great eats around the area. read more

Probably my favorite category six hyatt property in nyc. Don't expect sweeping skyline views but you'll get pretty much everything else. Both the hard and soft product are superior and it's the attentiveness to detail that makes this place shine. From housekeeping, to the floral arrangement, to the house car, the breakfast is also excellent. Sure the location is not the closest to all the touristy attractions but Fulton street is close and you can pretty much get anywhere you need to be. We stayed at the Beekman over Easter Weekend. The hotel is really not worth the price. The room needed maintenance. The breakfasts and also the lounge for drinks was ok but again not worth the price. We had to chase after management to address our concerns. I think the hotel relies upon its reputation as a chic hotel. One thing I would do differently is not get a room on a low floor on the atrium- it's a noisy spot. However, the sound proofing in the rooms is pretty great. I had a great experience at The Bar Room at Beekman. First, I want to highlight the charming qualities of the entire property. Upon entering the lobby, you are greeted by a kind and polite doorman who directs you to the front desk. Whether you're staying at the hotel or just joining The Bar Room for drinks at the bar or a snack at the tables, or even dining at Chef Daniel's restaurant, La Gratin, you are in the right place. The ambiance is absolutely stunning. With high ceilings, dim lighting, and sophisticated music, it creates a relaxing atmosphere to unwind after a long day. We were seated by a friendly and professional hostess. Our server was a young lady who seemed to be one of the lead servers, as she managed several tables. Her knowledge of the food and beverage menu was impressive. Since we were looking for a snack after a late lunch, she provided excellent recommendations. The drinks were good; my cocktail was slightly sweeter than usual for a gimlet, but it was still well made. The wine selection is also impressive. For food, we ordered a cheese board, which came with crostini, honey, and nuts. I must admit that the presentation could be improved. Given the variety of cheeses, it would have been better to serve them on a board rather than a regular plate, with the additional components in ramekins for better preservation. Come for the jazz, stay for the ambiance and food. The Beekman is such a classic and quintessential NYC spot for old world architecture and charm. The Bar Room inside allows reservations for Sunday jazz brunch so that's what I did. The service was a little slow honestly but the food was delicious though expensive (but it's like hotel lobby food so to be expected). I ordered a passion fruit Bellini cocktail and then the ancient grain and eggs which was delicious. The jazz band was also great. Beautiful hotel with old school charm. No wonder we encountered so many couples who come to the Beekman to have their photos taken. I wouldn't say the hotel it is the most ideal if you have small children but service was top notch including from all the doormen. Our room was lovely and was a nice retreat after a long day. We had a comfy king sized bed in a relatively spacious (for NYC standards) room. The bathroom (also spacious) was clean with good pressured and consistently hot showers. I have never written a review before, but this experience left me no choice. I stayed at the hotel on 9/20, and it was by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The hospitality team was unprofessional and dismissive from start to finish. I arrived between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. for a wedding, fully understanding that early check-in would not be available at that time, but was assured we would receive a text once our room was ready. That text never came. When we returned around 4:00 p.m., we were told the room was still "in queue." No apology, no explanation. While we sat waiting in the lobby, we watched another guest, who had already been in his room all day, successfully request a room change simply because he didn't like that his original room was near the elevator. Meanwhile, we still had nowhere to go. Only after we complained again were we told our room would be ready "in 10 minutes." It took another 15-20 minutes, and still no apology. I believe we finally received our room around 5:15 p.m. The staff handed us two drink tickets as if that solved the problem. My wife is pregnant, so they were useless. The whole experience was thoughtless. This hotel was a complete joke. The behavior of the staff was despicable. I left angrier than I've ever been after a hotel stay. read more

The vibe is consistent throughout the hotel, from the rooms to the stairs to the elevators and the bar/restaurant in the lobby. Gym - The Gym was surprisingly good. They had two pelotons with the traditional road bike shoe clip-ins and three cages. They have two floors for the gym. 2nd level is cardio equipment - pelotons, ellipticals, treadmills, and rowers. 3rd floor is weights, cable machines, and stretching/abs. You can get a solid workout done in the hotel. Service - They have GRADE-A Service. The place was a joy to stay at, from their restaurant to their concierge to their doormen. Anything we needed, they were accommodating. Pro Tip: It is an AMEX fine hotel - so be sure to get your points and partake in the great restaurant downstairs for brunch and drinks. read more

A solid 4 stars for this property. Dropped off our bags in the morning and asked for a call when the room was ready. Booked with Amex and they say check in could be 12 when available - ok that it wasn't. Arrived back at 2:30 and the room wasn't ready - still ok as check in time is listed as 3. Went back up to the desk at 3:45 and was told 15 more mins. I finally got the keys to our room at 4:25. No apology. No overview of the property and amenities. Just handed the keys. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the standard service level from the majority of the staff. 40 mins after check in the housekeeping crew was knocking on the door for turndown service. No need for turndown since I just walked in the door. 30 minutes later and they started testing the alarm system over the loudspeaker. Not the restful welcome I had expected. The building has a ton of history and charm. And the rooms are far from standard - the furnishings, linens and materials are quite nice and comfortable. Some of the maintenance however is subpar - the door's keycard reader was a hole where the circuitboard was visible, the shower wouldn't drain so you're standing in 2 inches of water, there's a gap between the sliding bathroom door and wall so you can look right in if you wanted to, etc. Luckily we had a room away from the main atrium and street. The atrium can be quite noisy in the evenings and there's construction going on across the street for 6 days a week. The gym is a real highlight for this property. It spans floors 2 and 3 with a nice variety of equipment. There are even two pelotons and the front desk has a range of shoes available (you might have to speak to a few people as it seems the shoes are a secret to some). There's also a steady supply of water bottles at the entrance to the gym. Overall, I think this is a great spot to visit and soak up the ambiance in the hotel's atrium bar. For the cost to stay, I'd go elsewhere. read more

I stayed here for one night and what a dream of a hotel! The staff here is beyond amazing and so helpful. The room was spacious and unlike other parts of the city, it was actually quiet and you could get a good night's sleep! The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was the biggest one I've seen in a NYC hotel yet. You have to visit the bar downstairs as the drinks were some of the best I've had. I'm a Marriott ambassador, so I spend most of my time in Marriott hotels. The Beekman is a Hyatt property, but I had read about its magical architecture, so I had to stay here to check it out. Just a few years ago, this was an abandoned, abused space where explorers snuck in to take photos of urban decay. Today, it's a fully restored masterpiece. The centerpiece of this hotel is the atrium, which houses its bar and restaurant spaces (reviewed separately). The ironwork and glass skylight make for dramatic views, day or night, from the bottom up and the top down. During special events, the hallways are lit up with special colors (such as during pride week), making it an extra special sight. The lobby is full of intricate wood and tile work. Velvet seating with dramatic colors and tasseled lighting. Art deco sconces line the hallways. The rooms are open to the hallway and the atrium, but there was no noise from the inside. There is a lot of construction going on, so if you're on that side, you will have some external noise during the day. I'm not sure any of the rooms have what you'd call "a view," but that's not why you're staying here. The rooms are both classic and quirky--full of color and high end finishes. I had a king suite. Comfy bed, crisp linens. Fully stocked mini bar with champagne and rose. 24 hour room service. Beautiful, large bathroom (mine had a tub, rain shower, and shower wand). High end toiletry products. The service here is excellent, though it's fairly formal. They accommodated me with a late checkout. I did pay an extra 45 dollars for a 2 PM checkout, and they were able to push it to 3 PM, which made all the difference for me and my plans for the day. Much appreciated! The base price of my original queen room was around 450-475. I paid 25 to upgrade to a king and 45 to get the late checkout. Before all was said and done, with destination fees, taxes, etc, my bill was almost 800 dollars (not including mini bar and room service etc). So this is more of a luxury treat than an everyday stay. Also, it's quite far down the island of Manhattan, near the financial district. New York is expensive, so always keep your itinerary in mind when booking hotels--location, location, location! But this is a beautiful and special place. Would recommend staying here at least once. read more

Bravo! Amazing stay. It's refreshing to know hospitality excellence is not gone. All staff are helpful and pleasant. The doorman are great and helpful also. Parking can be validated for $50 per day vs. The regular $70. Just remember to get your claim ticket validated upon checkout. A 6 minute walk to the hotel but if you have a lot of stuff, swing by the hotel first and drop it off then park. The best part for us was the shower!! It was amazing and the pressure is great. Be mindful that this hotel may not have any scolding restrictions like other newer hotels so be careful and test the water carefully because it does get hot. The ambience throughout is stunning with lots of historical touches. Knowing Shakespeare stayed here which seems like a lot was super cool. The rooms have robes and slippers which are really soft. They could use an upgrade with the robes but my husband said it keeps you warm. Other areas for improvement are the walls in the bathroom above the toilet needs repairing and I think the shades and curtains need to be replaced. The bed is super comfortable but did sit lower than others. I didn't mind it but it was noticeable. Our room was facing Nassau Street and it can get loud at night but that's NYC and sound travels up. I saw someone complaining in another review. It died down and we had a great sleep. If you are looking for complete quiet then go to another hotel with more than 10 floors...or just relax and enjoy the experience. I would stay here again. I will comment on Temple Court in another review but it was amazing to dine there!!!! read more

I was part of a bridal party a few months ago. It was fine, lighting was too dark for it to be a proper getting ready space. However, the truly egregious act was when the Beekman falsely accused this group for ripping a sofa. And then in turn, charged the couple over $3k for a rip on a couch this wedding party and reservation had NO part of. It was an obvious rip that did not exist when the bridal party left, when the couple checked out and when room service came to clean the room. Even worse, the hotel management has gone dark after charging the card without notice. Beekman hotel shame on you. Please make this right! read more
