Ceremony set up. I made the rosette myself, but the stained glass, the lion heads and the chandelier made it look great
    Beverly J.

The moment I walked in the Alger House, I immediately knew I had to book it. It is bigger than it looks in pictures and the decor is unique and antique. We recently got married there (8/6/16) and everyone was raving about what a great time they had. We decided to have a Gastby/Speakeasy style wedding in black and gold, and it worked perfectly with the venue. The statues and stained glass windows were absolutely stunning as a focal point for the ceremony. My favourite part was the upstairs garden room where the bridal party got ready. Everyone was snapping pictures in the bathroom as it looks like it is straight out of a magazine. Monika was our coordinator. She was very insightful, incredibly patient and accommodating, and did not hesitate to go out of her way to ensure our wedding was exactly what we had envisioned. Her experience in coordinating weddings is apparent from the get go and she wasn't shy to make suggestions and/or point out issues that may interrupt or make the flow of the wedding unnecessarily awkward. I ended up doing all the decor/flowers myself (we had a small budget wedding with 90 people) and Monika went out of her way to allow us to come in the day before (lucky for us they were not booked that day) to set everything up and rehearse. The best part about our wedding was that we came in pretty much on our budget (16,000ish). I had been very frustrated and upset with how expensive other venues were (we had checked out one in Brooklyn that was just a warehouse for 11,000- and that DID NOT include silverware/catering/alcohol- just the shell!). I finally came across Alger House by searching "inexpensive wedding venue NYC" and as soon as I saw it I had a great feeling. What blew my mind was that food, alcohol, linens, tables etc. was all INCLUDED! When I got the final bill from Monika I actually did a happy dance! I called my husband so excited that it was less than what I was expecting! Though it was inexpensive do not be fooled- it was the BEST SERVICE. Monika did the greatest job helping us coordinate our wedding. Because of her experience, our wedding was more than we could have hoped it could be. She was on top of everything- replying to emails within minutes, meeting with me several times to answer questions going above and beyond to make sure I had a good experience. On the day of the wedding as we were being reintroduced to the reception as husband and wife (after a swift conversion of the space-10 mins) the DJ played our first dance song. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Monika scoot over to the DJ and explain that it was our first dance song and the music quickly changed. She was ON IT. We would not hesitate to recommend the Alger House for a beautiful, intimate wedding and particularly Monika. We don't think our vision would have been possible without her.

The Alger House is such a cool 'private' venue, in a great part of NYC. I hosted my husband's 40th birthday, working closely with Keiara R to plan the P-A-R-T-Y! She was absolutely amazing to work with. She quickly understood my vision and worked with me to ensure each detail was perfected & brought to life. The party was absolutely spectacular and the memories will be treasured forever. I highly rate and recommend this venue! You won't be disappointed. I promise!

We recently had our wedding here at The Algers House. The place is absolutely beautiful! When you are inside, you feel like you're transformed to a totally different era. We worked with Monika. She was fantastic! Very easy to work with & very helpful. Glen, who was the maître d on our wedding day, he was full of energy, helpful, & friendly. The food was absolutely delicious! Everyone of our guests kept telling us on how delicious the food is. We checked out other places before we decided to have our wedding here. The Algers House was actually the first place that we checked out before checking out other places but there is just something special & unique about The Algers House that other venues don't have. We felt that The Algers House is a perfect choice for our wedding. We would definitely recommend The Algers House for anyone who wants to have a small intimate wedding. We absolutely fell in love with this place.

The venue is beautiful and located in the middle of the West Village. We had an amazing experience working with Jeno (he was responsive and had great suggestions to make the wedding a seamless experience)! All of our guests were raving about the food and drinks! We cannot say enough good things about Alger House, Jeno, and the entire staff who helped make our wedding an incredible night! Thanks again - James and Vladimir!

I'm very sensitive to salt and am known for undersalting my own cooking, so I rarely think food is under-seasoned. But it genuinely felt like no salt was used in the kitchen here. We came for my birthday, and my partner only selected "birthday" on the reservation because the reservation app specifically asked whether we were celebrating an occasion. We were not requesting a birthday dessert or any special treatment. Then, when we arrived, our server asked if we were celebrating anything, and we simply answered, "Yes." A little later, the server brought out a scoop of ice cream that we never ordered, requested, or even hinted that we wanted. To our surprise, we were then charged $12 for it. At no point did anyone mention that the dessert was an item we would be paying for. Had we known it wasn't complimentary, we never would have indicated it was my birthday on the reservation or answered the server's question. We didn't even eat the ice cream because we hadn't wanted dessert in the first place. Rather than make a scene, we paid the charge, but it left a very negative impression. It's frustrating to be billed for something you never ordered, especially when the only reason your birthday was mentioned at all was because the reservation app and the server asked. A birthday shouldn't result in an unexpected charge for an unsolicited dessert.

She was warm during our initial tour, but once the contract was signed, communication became inconsistent and every conversation felt combative and unnecessarily rude. From the beginning, our timeline was a 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM open bar, using the Triplex until 11:00 PM and the Speakeasy from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM, which we'd rented for an additional $2,500. It was the timeline we developed with 632's own preferred caterer, and everything else, including catering, music, late-night food, and vendor schedules, was built around it. Then, less than a month before the wedding, Karen said she had decided she wasn't okay with eight hours of bar service anymore. Nothing had changed except her mind. We were suddenly forced to either cut cocktails during cocktail hour or shorten our after-party, despite already paying for both. We tried to find a compromise. Every suggestion was shut down. In the end, we spent thousands more booking a separate after-party venue, while also eating the cost of vendors like our DJ and photographer, whose hours had already been scheduled and paid for based on the original timeline. By the end of it all, we were so mentally drained that we didn't even do our rehearsal at the venue because we couldn't deal with another interaction. Then it took seven weeks and multiple follow-up emails just to get our security deposit back. If you value being treated with respect during one of the most important events of your life, look elsewhere. The venue is gorgeous. The owner is not someone you want to deal with.

The owner of this venue made our wedding planning experience an absolute nightmare. These are just…read morea few of the many issues we dealt with throughout the process. Just 26 days before our wedding, after 11 months of planning around a 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM open bar, Karen (the owner/operator) told us she was no longer okay with the timeline she'd known about from the very beginning. There wasn't a licensing issue or a staffing issue. She simply decided that eight hours of bar service was "too much." We suddenly had to choose between serving cocktails during cocktail hour or having drinks at our after-party, even though we'd already paid $2,500 for the Speakeasy specifically for that purpose. We even offered to cancel the Speakeasy and either receive a refund or apply the $2,500 toward our bar package. Instead of having a reasonable conversation, Karen threatened to get her lawyers involved. From there, we were left scrambling to find another after-party venue less than a month before the wedding, while still paying for vendors like our DJ and photographer whose schedules had already been built around the original timeline. There was no way to recover those costs. One last-minute decision ended up costing us thousands of dollars. Another moment that perfectly sums up what it was like working with Karen happened the night before our wedding. We had requested Bud Light be added to our beverage package a full year earlier, and it had already been approved, invoiced, and paid for. Then, while we were at our rehearsal dinner, Karen emailed saying she had misquoted the price and that we now owed $200 immediately instead of the $45 we'd already paid, or the beer would be returned. It wasn't about the $200. It was the timing. Who creates a last-minute issue the night before someone's wedding over something that had been settled weeks earlier? And frankly, $200 for two cases of Bud Light is ridiculous. The building is beautiful. But if we had the chance to do it all over again, we'd choose a different venue without hesitation.
