Recently moved to Austin, found ourselves in a pickle. We didn't know we got to fill our gas tank. Cold front coming in. We hadn't signed up with a new propane company yet, decided that the company that's going to be able to get us out of this pickle fastest is the one we're going to continue working with. I called O'Brien, a guy called Brian answered. He was very nice, it was Wednesday, he said he was going to try to pull it off by Saturday even though it's an extremely busy time and they are backed up. He said he was even gonna try to pull it up earlier. He was going to confirm and get back to me. Which we really appreciated. I called back yesterday to tell them that even if they can't do earlier, we want to confirm Saturday. I called Carl answers. I asked Carl just to confirm they're coming Saturday. Carl said OK. I called the next day because I never got a confirmation. Carl says that he told me if he doesn't call back it's confirmed. Carl never said that. Carl was also pretty abrasive on the phone and he was in a hurry to get off the phone. It almost felt Carl was saying hey this is all I got for you you're gonna have to do what I say if you want gas. I didn't like it. I felt like he thought I had to deal with an abrasive demeanor because I had no other choice. Nope.... I ended up calling Bubba's propane.. they were professional and they're coming the same day. The owner of the company said that his policy is that no home goes without heat and water and all that. Let me tell you about Cleveland. No, not the coveted vacation destination in northern Ohio - Cleveland the man. More specifically, a man of the cloth. ... and the cloth I'm talking about is none other than the guild of liquid propane (and of course liquid propane accessories). Cleveland runs O'Brien Propane. I've known Cleveland for about 3 years now. And he's saved my ass about 3 times. Most recently was last week. We had a plumber running a new line from the tank to the house and broke the POL valve and asked me to let the propane man know. Cleveland's schedule was slammed for the next week and couldn't make it out. I put him on speaker with the plumber to figure out what was going on and he smelled (figuratively) something funny. He told the plumber to stop what he was doing. Cleveland dropped everything and got here in 5 minutes. Come to find out, the plumber set up the system to send high-pressure propane (175 psi) into the house when it required about 0.5 psi. From what I understand that could've dumped the 250 gal tank into our house in minutes. The conversation got spicy. Cleveland's tech came in the next morning (on his day off) and spent 4 hours overhauling the system. The plumber owned his mistake. And showed up the next day to shadow the tech to learn how to do it right. Another disaster avoided. And all thanks to Cleveland and his crew. The last time he bailed me out was during Icepocolypse when they were working around the clock and late late into the night to get people in need propane to stay warm. No one from any other company has taken better care of me as a client. He's funny as all hell. Always has a giant smile on his face and you can tell his family (and his employees families) mean the world to him. There's a lot I admire about this man. If you live in Southwest Austin or Dripping Springs and are on propane, I promise no one will take care of you better. read more

Yesterday afternoon(Wednesday) 8 days later I called and Larry said they have been too busy. We are in the same town, Dripping Springs. Easy and close up Trautwein Road but they never came. O'Brien Propane's service cannot be beat. They are absolutely outstanding. We just moved into a new house and let the propane slip - ran out on a Friday evening right as we were lighting our stove to cook dinner. We left O'Brien and a handful of other propane servicers voicemails that night in the hopes that we could get a refill ASAP. Unfortunately they were all closed through the weekend. Cleveland from O'Briens gave us a call back first thing the next morning (a day that they're closed). Not only did he schedule a truck for us first thing Monday, but he came out that afternoon to give us a 10 Gallon fill to get us through the weekend. He did a leak test, re-lit both of our water heaters and made sure our stove and fireplace were properly functioning. Not to mention he didn't charge us a service fee. We have been in our house for 3 years and have been completely happy with another propane service. Something happened and we found out we are completely out on a Saturday morning. Called O'Brien for an emergency fill up. They would only give us propane today if I committed to drop my current provider and use them going forward. During this latest ice storm, our propane tank went empty the first night-Jan 30. The long-time provider would not respond to any requests for speedy service--would only say the next delivery would happen by Feb. 15! We have a steep driveway and never had any issues with Propane providers coming up our driveway in the past. O'Brien also did it several times with no issues but the last two times they did it, our driveway had scratches on it after. Obviously our driveway is the same so something has changed on their truck which caused the scratches. I spoke to the owner of the company and he was not very polite and said he had already raised some bar on the truck and could not do anything further about it. He basically told me to take my business elsewhere even though his truck had serviced our place multiple times without any issues - wasn't even interested in talking about options for how we could avoid the issue of scratching our driveway. We found out our tank wasn't set up properly and now we're getting a very reasonably priced tank through O'Brien. I can't recommend them enough for their customer service. My regular propane provider retired and I was on empty. The place that they forwarded to was too busy. It was cold and the range wouldn't work either. I went looking for a local provider. O'Brien answered the phone and was quick. Even with a tight schedule. They checked my system, all OK. Then he refilled the tank. I'll keep a closer eye on the tank now. Very, very disappointed. By the reviews I expected to be treated with at least a little respect. The first thing out of the box should have been a telltale sign when the technician showed up and sat in his truck in my driveway for 10 minutes while my wife stood there waiting outside his truck while he finished his snack. When he got out, he acted like he did not want to be there at all. He finally warmed up by saying a few words so we chalked it up to a bad day. Long story short we were told this was a turn key operation only to get a call an hour before install asking if I had done "my part" the tech showed up at 2:15 and sat in my driveway again and was very cold when he got out barely introducing himself and said he works "bankers hours" and would not set up our appliances for us and they would come back some other time. I was contacted by the owner who told me basically it was my fault that the guys could not do their job because they assumed that everything was ready even though they had been there and seen everything as is and even emailed asking if there was anything that I needed to do. I am in the customer service industry and honestly if I found out my guys treated a customer like this I would fire them on the spot. This was the worst experience I have had with any company on any level. I will certainly recommend that you look elsewhere. read more

We're in a house on propane for the first time this year. I didn't realize how often to check the levels and... we ran out of propane. Unfortunately, it was on the coldest winter night in years. When I called the owner on Saturday evening (past business hours), he didn't hesitate to drive out and give us enough fuel to get through the weekend until his team could fill us up on Monday. He offered - I didn't have to plead. He showed up within an hour, gave us some fuel in the dark with a flashlight, showed me how to relight every pilot light in the house, and even gave us some tips to increase our energy efficiency. When I tried to give him a tip for coming out so late on a Saturday night, he refused. O'Brien propane is a team of true professionals... couldn't recommend them more. We are traveling in an RV and staying in a park in Dripping Springs. For the first time since we bought our rig, we had to add propane, but had problems at the park. We decided to see if a local propane company could help. O'Briens was the only one in the area who would even talk to my husband, and it was decided that we'd drive the rig on Saturday morning to their site on 290 to see if they could fill up the tank. Even with using a mallet to whack the tank a few times it was no go. Still, the customer service didn't just end there. The tech guy got on the phone and talked to the owner about the situation, and we got the name of someone who could do any necessary repairs, a guy called PropaneJack. Terrible customer service. It's been nearly impossible to get a tank refill scheduled. When I called, a rep named Larry gave me a 7-day window, but I never heard back. When I called again, I spoke to the owner Cleveland, whose behavior was alarming. He used expletives and and blamed me for the problem because I wanted to be on site because I have dogs. Cleveland is quite excitable and not easy to have a calm, constructive dialogue with so that we could find a solution. Instead I decided to go to Garnett Propane. The were very professional and were able to calmly schedule a refill for the next day. read more

I realized that I was being overcharged and borderline ripped off from my previous propane company so I cancelled service with the intent to find a new provider before my tank needed to be filled again. Fast forward to 2 days before Thanksgiving in which I'm hosting dinner and I realized that I never got around to finding a new provider and my tank is running extremely low. I called these guys after reading great reviews and, while not being able to make any promises, was told they would do everything they could to get to me before Thanksgiving. The guy showed up that day, did a safety inspection to check for leaks and filled the tank. Larry even gave me helpful tips on the phone as to why my gas stove was cooking a certain way so I could resolve it. My last company truly didn't know what customer service was so I was utterly stunned at how fantastic this company was and has continued to be in regards to taking care of their customers. I'm embarrassed to say that on more than one occasion we have found our propane tank on empty because we have not kept track of the gas level. Yet on these occasions when we call O'Brien Propane and ask for a fill they are always extremely friendly and courteous and, even better, they have been able to get our large tank filled the very same day. With colder weather quickly approaching, we called up O'Brien propane again to have them come out and top off our propane tank and show us how to run the gas fireplace. Once again, Cleveland was extremely helpful and very customer oriented. After filling up our tank, he came inside and inspected the gas fireplace for leaks using some leakdown testing fluid. He found a small leak in a valve and tightened it. He then proceeded to show us how to use the ignitor and controls for the gas fireplace. He even turned it all off and had me turn it back on while he watched, just to make sure I was comfortable doing it. Great business with great customer service. These guys are top notch. read more

Very helpful folks. Long ago; I was driving down the road w/ a propane tank on my trailer, and got a flat. I happened to be near their old location on Thomas Springs road, and Cleveland pulled up behind me, waved me onto his property and actually helped me change a tire. Not only that, but later on, he helped me find the cheapest way to hook up the stuff for my new tank, ....stuff my previous provider wouldn't even think of. O'brien has always been a helpful company.
