Recently moved and on the way to the area our family car began to have serious braking and alignment issues. O'Briens was right around the corner and they were kind enough to get us in immediately and resolved everything making it safe for our children and us to use the car. I live in Scituate but had a great service place so for years I stayed with them even though it was a long drive. I had a small problem one day and decided to use O'Brien's and met Steve the owner. In time, I decided to use them more and more and now they are the place I go. They are pretty busy but I believe that's a good sign. Steve is as honest and up-front a person as you could meet, I trust his judgement and his word completely. He gets to know his customers and understand what they are looking for. He has gone way beyond expectation many times for me. I have had to ask him to let me pay him sometimes because if its a small concern and nothing really wrong, he won't charge me despite spending time working it. Our family has used O'Brien's for years and have found them to be scrupulously honest. There have been several occasions where we thought an expensive repair was needed but were not. For example, our van's battery went dead, looking for all the world like a ~$300 alternator had failed. O'Brien's called to say that the alternator was fine - the battery had some sort of manufacturing defect and had failed. We were very happy to have an $80 repair bill, which included the battery. On our kid's cars ,they have made numerous small and inexpensive repairs when they could easily have claimed more work was needed. This is that rare mechanic that you can really trust. read more

After years of fustration I still cannot express my complete dissatisfaction with this company we brought our car there for some kind of engine failure... they worked on the car and called me a few days later to inform the car was fine. I went and paid the substantial bill (for what I thought was an unneeded repair) when I went to the car it barely got out of the lot it was running so poorly.. When I went back to the servic manager, he said nothing was wrong.. obvioulsyhe had not driven it.. he was basically very short with me and nearly refused any further work on the car.. Finally he relented and they fixed the car.. I though When I went back a few days later, the service manager handed me the keys and just about pushed me out of the garage. The car did start,k but by the time I drove the 2.5 mile home, it was misfiriing terribly and totally overheated. the engine died in the driveway, never to start again. Obviously they never road tested it.. the service manager was a total inpersonal rude jerk and if they didn't know how to fix it.. they should of said so.. the worst case of bankruptcy to their business would be the only pleasure I would get about O'briens read more

I priced a job with 3 different mechanics in the area and his price was the lowest by a few hundred dollars. Both my mom and I use him for all of our car maintenance and repairs. I had a bad experience at O'Briens. I needed a new exhaust system and needed my truck for work on the weekend, so I explained the situation and offered to bring it in on the Monday before that weekend. I was told the repair would only take one day, and Friday would be fine. To play it safe, I talked them into Thursday. They told me not to worry and that I would absolutely have my vehicle for the weekend. As it turned out my truck sat in their parking lot all day Thursday and they didn't start the repair until Friday afternoon. They didn't complete the repair until the following Monday, causing me to have to rent a pickup truck for the weekend. They've lost my business. read more

The O'Brien family has been taking care of our two cars, one 15 years old, since we moved here 10 years ago. The most unique characteristic of their car care is total honesty about problems major or minor. Several times, they have pointed out what I thought was a problem was easily fixed and once made a minor adjustment with no charge.
