I have been servicing my car at Jim's automotive for 10 years and couldnt believe I havent written a review on yelp for them. I cant even count the times I have gone to have something serviced and they never charge me for anything more than what is needed and always discuss my options with me. I take the car in for service and they top oils up instead of changing them if they dont need to be changed, they only change filters when needed and always tell me what options I have for used replacement parts or new and the risks vs benefits of choosing that. One of the hardest thing to find is a mechanic you can trust and arent related to (sometimes you cant even trust ones you are related to). Having found Jim's Automotive is a big relief for me. These guys are awesome. Niki replaced parts on my wife's volvo. Great job. When wiffeee is happy everyone's happy. When someone asks if they want to walk freely into a repair shop to view there car and the manager says no. Put your self in the managers shoes. There's cars coming in and out. A customer could get hit. There is hazardous waste. Most importantly technicians are focusing on repairs. Hearing a loud mouth walking through the shop is a huge distraction. People need there cars back. So next time you ask to see your car in the shop and the Irish manager says no, Put your BIG BOY pants on and take your car from where you have issues with the Irish guy ,who is trying to run a repair shop, and go fly a kite. My mechanic retired after 38 years, and I needed to find another repair shop, handy enough to my house. I traveled to a handful of them, including Jim`s Automotive Center on 291 Lenox St. Norwood, MA 02062 and I could see all the awards that the shop had received, so I asked the co-owner if they have any Mazda Miata customers and I was told yes we do, so I figured that the awards were no fluke, and they weren`t. First, I needed a new battery for my new purchase, a 25 year old Mazda Miata and it required a special battery, which they made sure that they got for me and I asked the co-owner (Danielle) if she could make sure that the mechanic checked all the systems to make sure that everything was filled to the required level and in good working order. My request was taken care of by Nick, a mechanic, and he told me a few things to keep an eye on, but the vehicle is in good running order and should stay that way for a while. After I left the shop, the next morning I took it out to Rte. 95 and then on Rte 495, to see how it would roll along. It rolled along very nicely. I finally returned home on Rte. 1. WHAT A TREAT IT WAS !!! If your looking for a reliable, responsible, and dedicated auto shop, then if you come here, you will be very satisfied. I intend to make this my new auto shop, until I can`t drive a car any longer. That means that my wife`s car and my first car will be coming here too. Each time my wife and I have brought either of our vehicles there they've done great work and get it done fast. They never try to push unnecessary work and always seem very honest. Having a mechanic that you can trust is huge and these guys nail it! Could not recommend Jim's any more! Just want to edit a bit to add: the very first time we brought her car there (so none of us knew each other) they identified 4 issues and gave us a quote. I told them we didn't exactly have the disposable income at the time to deal with all 4. I asked what was absolutely necessary to make the car safe to drive and if anything could wait a couple weeks until other bills were paid and we felt a little more comfortable. It was refreshing for the mechanics to tell me the truth that about what should be repaired immediately and what could wait a bit. Needless to say, we got the most important repairs done and were back a week or 2 later to get the remaining repairs done so it was running like new. I started going to Jim's last year when I bought a house right next door. Was convenient to drop off car and walk home. But until recently all I did was oil and filter changes. Well, yesterday I needed a new alternator. I knew it was about to die due to a noise it was making and my car battery voltage being low all the time (read with a Bluetooth obd adaptor). Friday morning I scheduled to go in for an oil/filter change and to have that looked at. Friday afternoon my car died. Charged up the battery enough so I could drive it to Jim's Monday morning and drop off car at 8am. Told them I would need a new battery and to check if indeed the alternator was fine it or had no life left. At 12 I got a call from Danny there saying I need a new alternator. New alternator, new battery, oil/filter change and work all for a very reasonable price (still hurt when I heard the amount, but I had done enough research to know that others can charge up to 3 times the amount and take up to two weeks to fix this). Picked up car same day all fixed up. You could tell the alternator issue was also the cause of a slight whistling noise when using the aux input in the car. That noise is gone now. I'm glad I have a reliable mechanic shop that is right around the corner and i don't have to be related to the mechanic so I can get the work done right and affordable. read more

From the friendly smiles behind the counter to the employees in the garage itself, I couldn't have been more impressed. Not only are they friendly, but they are highly skilled car experts that put me at complete ease when it came to repairing my Tuscon. They were able to explain to me exactly what was wrong with the vehicle, a few options on how to fix it, and give me a very fair estimate for the repairs. "Ummm... well, I believe It is leaking rainbow..." was my response to Jim's question when I first walked in to get my car serviced one morning. So, needless to say, I had sucker written all over my face. He could have very well told me anything and charged me everything. So Car Genius meets Car Idiot. It's nice to make your acquaintance. Even so, he has always treated me kindly and graciously...but that's just his style. Jim is quite frankly the best in his profession. He's professional but still nice, honest and with pricing that is fair, if not better than most. Service has always been so quick too. He is so very prompt with email correspondence as well. Back when I drove a late model foreign car, he was THE ONE AND ONLY mechanic who knew what to do to keep that fickle thing running. If you commute to Boston, his shop is conveniently located next to the train station. Just drop your car off in the morning before work; it very well may even be all fixed and ready to go by the time you are done with that 9-to-5 gig. It could possible cut out the carpool middleman situation thing in the evening - saving you from the confusion of trying to coordinate with the person who is going to pick you up and drop you off! Over the past several months I have had a good amount of work done on my car. Oil changes, tire replacement, and a water leak. Good auto mechanics can be really tough to find and it can be even tougher to find one that isn't trying to price gouge you. Jim's has been great! They have been helpful, quick, and they explain all the work that they do. I cannot thank them enough, especially for their patience on my most recent fix, water leaking into the car. Finding a leak in a car can be a nightmare, but they were great. They fixed the door and showed quite a bit of patience with me with the problem (I do not need to go into details on it, but they were really great and really patient with me). Brought my 2002 Jetta in because of some strange issues with the acceleration, and had a great experience. Chad took a ton of time diagnosing and discussing the problem with me. Although the issue turned out to require the replacement of the throttle body, Chad tried cleaning and repairing it before recommending the expensive replacement. My car has been running great ever since, and the prices were very fair. For the time and diligence given to me, I felt like I got a fantastic deal. "Smart service, extremely fair pricing, delivered with honesty and integrity." This slogan (on their site) is 100% true and couldn't be happier! TL;DR: Had an issue with my wheel bearing, called to make an appointment and they were very kind, professional, knew what they were doing, and did an amazing job in a reasonable amount of time at a fair price. Long version: Had some howling noise coming from my tires, and after doing some research, testing, and homework, narrowed down the issue to possibly being either the wheel bearing or axel rod being damaged/worn out. Called to make an appointment and was greeted by Danielle, who was very helpful setting up the appointment and dropping off/picking up my vehicle. When I arrived, I explained what I was experiencing and what I suspected the issue was (but also disclosed that I could be wrong). I dropped it off, a couple hours later received a call saying that it was indeed the wheel bearing, and they would work on it and get it done in a couple hours time. When I went to go pick it up, everything was smooth. Test drove the car and it's now running smoothly. Can't complain! Prices are indeed fair, and they definitely seem to know what they are doing. This is the place to get your vehicle fixed! Good honest people. I have been going here for years but it was the last time I went that I had to write. About a month ago I had a bad wheel bearing that they replaced. I started hearing the same sound and thought it was another bearing. It wasn't. It was the same one that was defective for the factory. They could have said it was a different one and I wouldn't have known. Could have said we replaced the part without charge but had to charge labor. My wife and I have been using Jim's Automotive for about 20 years now, bringing various cars and issues to them to solve and repair. They have never let us down. Most recently we brought our son's Jeep Wrangler there for a passenger compartment heating problem. I knew it was going to be an expensive, time consuming project- turned out the heater core needed to be replaced which entails removing much of the dashboard. Danielle called me to tell me how much it would be and I told her to go ahead. That was 11/26/19. She said they would have it done 11/27 by noon (which is when they were closing for Thanksgiving). Sure enough at about 10:30am on 11/27 she called me to say it was ready. What surprised me is she told me it would be LESS than what was quoted because they figured out a way to get it done faster. In fact it was about HALF. As I said we have been going there for about 20 years. Once you find a place you trust you stick with them. Danielle could have easily just charged me what she quoted and I would have happily paid but clearly that's not how Jim's operates. If you are looking for an auto mechanic that you can trust, that fixes things permanently and is HONEST- call Jim's and talk to Danielle. Jim has been taking care of my SAAB 9-5 for the past year, and took care of my Corolla for many years before that. He also takes care of all of my boyfriend's cars. Unless I move out of Massachusetts my cars will always go to Jim. He and his entire staff are professional, nice, pleasant, courteous, respectful and above all HONEST. It's a wonderful feeling to be able to drop off the SAAB and know that they will fix whatever needs to be fixed and I will be charged fairly. I'm never worried about being over sold, particularly since I don't know a lot about cars. I can't recommend Jim's enough. The location is also great.
