The facility was very clean! The only complaint that I have is a not so friendly staff member at the front desk. I asked her a question, she answered it, but to be honest her tone and overall demeanor was cold and she seemed utterly annoyed I even spoke to her in the first place. This is a great YMCA, I was previously a member of this YMCA when I lived in the area several years ago. They have updated and expanded the building. This is a very good facility with everything you need to meet your meet fitness program. They have a pool, indoor track and plenty of strength equipment. I highly recommend this YMCA. read more

This YMCA is the best that I have visited. It has a variety of classes, some for seniors too. It was recently updated and is even better than before. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and helpful. I am in a Chair Yoga class and my yoga instructor, Mary Birchem, who is AWESOME in what she does and patient with our seniors class, if we have a problem she always tries to be helpful to us.........great teacher. After spending all the money on new equipment and new desks for employees one would thing they would spend a few extra dollars to replace the defective plastic bottles used to spray the equipment to kill germs. I asked and was told it might be in next years budget. read more

The gym is nice, larger than most. The staff is pleasant, always nice. However I am giving them three stars because the ymca discriminates against those who work atypical jobs. And they only cater to those who work 9-5 jobs. I say this because the child care is only open before and after the typical "9-5". There is a four hour gap where people with atypical jobs want to go to the gym who can't because they don't have child watch the whole time they are open. But yet they have staff sitting around during the day. I get that there is slow time... but they should open the child car up earlier in the afternoon, either 2 or 3 pm. We have to do better for those who don't have 9-5 job, and is a parent wanting to better their health. read more

Took our 14 month old to the "swim lessons"... what an absolute joke. Don't waste your money, I guess you get what you pay for. The teacher was horrible, just no personality and seems like she dosnt know what she is doing. I definitely could teach my son more then she can. We went to the first class and will not be back. read more

Been going to ofallon y for over 10 years now. Really enjoy the variety of classes that the y has to offer.

Friendly but clueless. It seems like the only thing the people at the front desk know how to do is check people in. When initially signing up, it was a huge cluster and the classes with a serious workout are extra charge. Also the amount of small children in the locker room is uncomfortable. On a good note, There is constantly a staff member on cleaning duty and the fitness instructors always remember my name. Oh, and don't let your payment be late.... They will call you out in the foyer in front of whoever is around. Otherwise, I always get a good workout because there are plenty of machines and classes available. read more

This is by far the best YMCA I've been to in the metro area. We have since moved, and boy do we miss the O'Fallon Y. It is modern, kept very clean, and everyone is friendly. They have great classes - including kids swim lessons and swim team and karate. Membership is really affordable, too - assuming you use it! read more

My experience here is through scuba. We do our pool work there. The pool closes at 9:45pm. The lifeguard we have had the last couple of times has been extremely rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. If the pool closes at 9:45pm, that's the time swimmers should be off the pool deck and out of the pool area - which we are. However, the lifeguard has his shoes on, backpack on, etc. at 9:30pm and is telling us to leave because he has to close up. I'm not sure if I'm just old school, or if this is acceptable practice? If the pool closes at 9:45pm, this lifeguard should NOT expect to leave the building at this time. I am unsure if this is a policy issue with the YMCA telling him he gets off at 9:45pm (which shouldn't be the case if that's the time the pool closes to patrons) or if this is an issue with this particular employee. Either way, it's unacceptable. read more

True, great facility and equipment but with it comes the Nazi control not just from staff but other members. Good luck trying to work out without be harassed about what you're doing. Me, I was simply trying to run the track with my family but was harassed by another member cause we were not in the correct lane during peak hours when we tried our best to move around a crowded track. Let me also mention that we were also kicked out of the fitness studio. We simply did not know we're not allowed to be in there because there is no sign or rules stating so. I have been a member of the YMCA for nearly 5 years and out of the all of them this is the only one I have had issues with almost every time I go. If you're in the Southern Illinois area, best bets are Downtown Belleville or East Belleville. read more

As a Military Service member I would think the YMCA of O'Fallon would uphold the values of caring and honesty. What I witnessed at this YMCA fell short of such values by Aquatic Director Kyla Kirby. Ms. Kirby shows nothing less of unprofessionalism to both her employees and patrons. From employees, Kirby can be quoted talking about her personal relations with employees and can also be quoted for her distasteful use of words to insult young children who are just learning to swim. Ms.Kirby also falls short of what a "true" directors is supposed to conduct themselves in the manner which she conducts business. When she disagrees with customers she walks away. I witnessed Ms.Kirby do this to two young men today who were trying to ask a question about a situation. This YMCA can be great again but it must start with the removal of Ms. Kirby. I have been a member at this YMCA for years and have never seen such misconduct and disrespect towards employees and patrons by a director. As a service member I am offended and I hope this YMCA takes the necessary steps to remove Ms. Kirby in order to ensure customer satisfaction and safety! read more
