Even though many on AllTrails said the trail was fine within the past few days, it was clearly iced over today. No worries, as we had our spikes with us. Well, one worry, as one of my wife's spikes decided to sabotage our day and start to tear. After fighting with it for 30 mins or so, we abandoned our attempts to continue on the trail. Other than today, the Evergreen Mountain Trail is one of our favorites in Colorado. The views from the top are amazing. I can't recommend it enough; however, if you're going this time of year, take your spikes...you'll need them.

I had such a relaxing afternoon at Evergreen Lake. It's only about 30 minutes from downtown Denver,…read moremaking it an easy getaway without spending hours in the car. The main parking lot was full when we arrived, but the overflow parking was surprisingly easy. There was someone at the entrance directing cars, handing out the shuttle address, and answering questions. The free shuttle arrived within minutes, had air conditioning, and dropped us off right at the lake. The atmosphere is what makes this place special. It's clean, family-friendly, and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. You can bring your own kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or other non-motorized watercraft, or rent one there. Life jackets are required and rentals have time limits, but everything was well organized. The water was a little browner than I expected, with some natural tree limbs and debris floating around, and swimming isn't allowed. That said, it didn't take away from the experience. Most people were fishing, paddling around with friends, or simply floating and soaking in the views. If you're looking for a peaceful way to spend an afternoon outdoors, this is a great spot. I had a really good time and will definitely be back.

We were pleasantly surprised to see the building included an educational place with things to look at! This is a small Nature Center in Mount Goliath Natural Area. We took a lengthy look at the exhibits and read the abundant information. I even got my Junior Ranger Badge! :P There's a workbook for children to complete and receive their badge. I also stamped the booklet with the Ranger's stamp. Yes, this activity was my highlight! Haha The huge cross-section of a Ponderosa tree was really cool! They have arrows pointing to the rings with what happened in that year. Pretty historic! The tube with the plant showing the super deep root system is amazing! I especially liked the habitat of the Long-tailed Vole! It knows how to stay warm when it is freezing out! They forage in tunnels below the snow and don't hibernate during the winter! Either on your way to or on your way back from your hiking spot or vehicle destination, you should take a look inside! There are trails which will lead you here or you can begin from here to other locations.
