I'm many years late in writing this review but I wanted to finally do the right thing and say the following: 1) Laura is an AMAZING wedding planner 2) She is patient, kind, and an excellent listener 3) I found her to be very fair with her prices 4) She helped a busy, anxious bride, who did not enjoy wedding planning have a truly wonderful wedding day 5) We could not have had the beautiful wedding that we did without Laura's expert guidance 6) She does an excellent job of working with and balancing the opinions of the bride, the groom, and even the mother of the bride when necessary :) 7) Laura is fun, has a good sense of humor, and keeps things light even while handling the hundreds of serious details involved in a wedding. Things I would do differently? - Hire Laura from the start!: We hired Laura mid-way through the planning, after we had selected our venue and hired many of our vendors. I believe we would have saved money had we hired Laura earlier because she knows of so many great vendors, great venues, and knows how to stay on budget. She also has wise advice on how to prioritize spending. - Realize that every wedding has a planner: It took me a few months to realize that my husband and I were acting as our wedding planners... and that just isn't our strong suit! Planning a wedding, or any large event, involves hundreds of details large and small. I would have asked myself: Do I want to do this kind of work?; Do I have time to do this?; Am I organized enough to manage all of these moving parts?; Am I in a position to slow down on work and other life activities so I have the time to plan the wedding of our dreams? - Admit defeat sooner! Bring in a Pro!: I now realize that I do not like discussing nuances of menus, napkin folds, chair covers, lighting, flower arrangements, or planning the ceremony down to the minute. Being able to admit that I'm just not good at those things freed me up to finally accept help and hire someone. I felt such relief when we hired Laura because she's amazing at all of these things and more. Watching her in action really showed me the value of a professional wedding planner. Laura should be the absolute first person you call if there's an important event you need help planning. It's hard to imagine what my husband and I would have done without her. She helped us pull off what can only be described as an epic party in an incredibly short amount of time. The background is this: due to an unforeseen health issue arising, we decided to plan a huge party in less than 5 weeks. It would be under the guise of celebrating our respective birthdays, but in reality, we'd be announcing to our nearest and dearest family and friends that we had gotten married the year prior. So, this was a combination of a giant birthday party and a wedding reception, which was no small feat. Our guest list was between 125-200 people; with such limited time, we weren't sure whether we'd be able to find a venue large enough to accommodate our guests, or how many of them would even be able to attend. So, we immediately called Laura for help. She didn't even flinch when we explained what we were hoping to do and why, and she kept our "we got married" secret throughout the planning process. She moved quickly, leveraging her strong working relationships with wedding and party service providers to ensure that we had all of the things lined-up that we needed in order to make the party a success. Within just 3 days of our initial conversation, she had helped us secure a venue that would accommodate at least 150 guests (or more), so we were able to get invitations out very quickly. Laura met with us at least four times leading up to the event, drafted the floor plan, organized decorations, asked poignant questions to help us really get to the bottom of what we wanted (because we weren't always sure!), and created packing lists, timelines, and detailed information for us and others to use leading up to, as well as on the day of our party. She also helped us keep our heads on straight, making sure we were realistic and prepared for everything. Onsite she kept everything running smoothly, while also being flexible and nimble in the midst of the ebb-and-flow of the party. Through it all she was grace under pressure; it was incredible to watch her in action. It was because of Laura that we were able to pull off such a meaningful, memorable, and important night. Laura is a wedding magician. She made our wedding a dream come true, even while navigating 240 guests, a non-standard caterer, a multicultural custom ceremony in a planetarium, an outdoor parade, and a bride-groom dance in the dark while we wore neon light-up shoes. Many of our guests said it was the most fun wedding they attended, and I know it could not have been possible without Laura. Laura LOVES weddings and turned otherwise tedious tasks fun- meaning that my husband and I could actually ENJOY wedding planning and focus on the fun stuff! It's hard to put into words (1) the value that Laura brought in helping us plan our wedding and (2) just how amazing Laura is at what she does. We met Laura of O Frabjous Day Events because she's a wedding planner who brought an amazing couple over to meet us and try our cupcakes. We've worked with a ton of wedding planners in our line of work, but we've never been quite as impressed with a wedding planner as we were with Laura. One AMAZING woman, and one AMAZING company! My wife and I were blown away by Laura's dependability, communication, optimism, and just being one INCREDIBLE wedding planner! She truly made our dream wedding come true. The wedding was beyond perfect. It was a day I will truly never forget and easily one of the happiest in our lives. And it really all boils down to the one who was at the helm, it was Laura, in all her amazing bad-assness! When shopping around for a planner, we consulted the Knot, Yelp, and a few other places. We narrowed it down to 4 planners, each who we went to interview. We met with Laura at a nice cafe, and even before we got down to business, she asked us a bit about ourselves and how we met. She seemed genuine and we absolutely loved her enthusiasm. My wife was practically dreading the planning process, and when Laura told us that her ultimate goal would be for us to have absolutely ZERO worries and ZERO stress on our wedding day, we knew she was a keeper. We went on to interview 2 other planners after meeting with Laura, but it was like night and day. None of the other planners had that special "spark". My wife and I are also deaf, so finding a planner we were both comfortable with, and especially easy to understand, was extremely important to us. Laura is super easy to understand, she enunciates her words clearly, but not to the point of being rude or obnoxious about it (like some people can be). All of my deaf friends who attended the wedding also just raved about her, she was super approachable, fun, sweet, and very easy to communicate with. We loved Laura's many suggestions and help for everything from vendors to food to choosing just the right kind of music for our processional. She also supports local businesses and we really wanted to keep our wedding as "Oakland" as possible. Extremely fair pricing too. She really works with you around your budget, I was pretty stressed with all the money stuff, but Laura was able to guide me and help every step of the way. I can think of the one time we were SUPER impressed with Laura. It was during our final sit-down with the venue we chose for the ceremony and reception. (The Terrace Room in Oakland!!!!!! WONDERFUL place!!!) The person that was running the event that night wanted to know about our overall theme and feel for the wedding. My wife and I had already explained this several times over to various people, but before we could even say anything, Laura jumped right in and explained the theme perfectly to them! She had the whole thing down completely clear and made sure that everyone was on the same page. She has excellent organizational skills, she gave us a schedule for the wedding day that was planned down to the minute! She suggested catering services that fit our budget, gave us some proposed menus so we could see the potential cost, told us how to figure out how much food, drink, and supplies we needed, helped us plan how to use the space in our house effectively, connected us with a staffing service from whom I got a bartender and server, and acted as general cheerleader and sounding board for us. We don't give a lot of parties and I was pretty anxious about this one but wanted it to be special. It certainly was, and I give Laura a lot of the credit for it. Laura was more than amazing, in every possible way. One day she was sitting here with us making fascinators for the bridesmaids hair, WHILE making tons of suggestions for our 1930's musical hit list. Another day, she drew up several alternate ballroom seating arrangements to accomplish MY most important goal of everyone being near a table, with my (now (wife's) most important goal of there being lots of room to move freely, and our dance show coordinator's most important goal of leaving 30x40 feet of dance space in the middle....of a fairly small-ish floor!! She remembered to nag us about tasks, took care of hundreds of things w/o missing a beat, coordinated a lot of pieces, and a lot of people, handled emergencies, and never acted annoyed even one time. She helped us understand timing and flow and how to manage it all so that people felt easy and comfortable and not the least bit rushed....and yet everything went off like clockwork, and evereyone was where they needed to be when they needed to be there. And in her spare time, she found tons of pictures of bouquets, hair ornaments, 30's dresses and tuxes and hairstyles, decorating ideasand set them up on pinterest for us to browse thru.
