No less than 5 different ones at other chain places and no one at any of them can do a simple flat top cut, it's quite amazing actually. My husband went there for a traditional Men's haircut, but what he got was awful more like a military cut you can see his scalp on the sides and around the back of his head since his hair is grey he looks bald. His hair hasn't been so short in many years. Worst haircut he's ever received. Never going back. read more

I said yes ma'am and no ma'am and even when I got a haircut not to my liking left a 10 dollar tip because my mother raised me better. Didn't know a 40% tip was being rude. I went to O'Grady's because I know people who love their haircuts and experience when they go but I was very disappointed. I understand that I have thin, straight hair but I had multiple reference pictures to show what I was looking for. I thought it was going well before the barber "L" straight cut my bangs and left my sides uneven. Although I was unhappy, I still payed and tipped because I was raised right. I was merely in shock and really embarrassed by my new hair so I just wanted to leave rather then having the barber try and fix it, since I don't want it that short. I won't come back. read more

I came here because of the great reviews. All of the stylists were friendly. My haircut itself, while a very basic shave, was done very well. That's where it stops. In further examination of the beard trim I received, the left side is shorter than the right, the trimming underneath is uneven and would have looked better if I didn't have it trimmed. On the sides it's longer towards the front and short to the back. Clearly not good with trimming long beards. What is irritating is that I asked when I booked to make sure it was someone good with a beard. As nice as she is, my beard is borderline ruined and something I have been working on for the last 10 years is possibly needing shave off if I can't find someone to fix it before my interviews this coming week. I do bot reccomend this places at all for anyone with long beards. Don't advertise beards if you aren't skilled at long beards. read more

I stopped into this place after moving to the area from MKE. I was a bit taken aback at the haircuts of the barbers. I should have turned around and left. One had the "Karen" - the asymetric style, with highlights that asks to speak to the manager. Turns out, after listening to the idle chit chat while getting my haircut, that the stylists are racist AF. From comments complaining about offshore IT folks from comcast, to complaints about African Americans in cook county, the employee's at this business do not hide their politics at all. I found other barbers in the area, but this was my 1st indication that Crystal Lake had some level of embedded racism. read more

You have the option of taking the first available barber or, since there is no appointment system, you may put your name on a list for the barber you want to wait for. The owner, Julie, makes her presence known and greets you when you enter and when you leave. There is no escaping this place without being able to express how you truly feel about your new haircut! I have been going here for years and can honestly say I feel like I get the best cut, even better than the last "best cut," each time I come in. There is a very gifted and talented barber named Josh that works Fridays and Saturdays. He is well worth the wait as there are usually many people in line for him. This man truly has attention to detail and takes his time to make sure you get the best cut each and every time. I've been in scenarios where there were four to five people stacked behind me for Josh and they choose to wait because they know the quality of his cut. I recommend his fades as this is what I always get. I've been to the "other" barber shop in town and it comes no where close to this cut and treatment. I like how O'Grady's does a razor shave of your neck and sideburns and tops it off with a back massage with a vintage back vibrator. O'Grady's supports various charities and participates in cancer awareness fundraisers such as Saint Baldrik's near St. Patty's Day which benefits children with cancer. Weekdays are a dollar cheaper ($16) than Saturdays ($17). It's money well spent either way. read more

Called to make an appt for same day. Kati cut my sons hair that was terribly overgrown. She was good about letting us know how he could style his hair based on photos of what he wanted. She took her time and did a great job. We will definitely be going back. The entire shop did a great job about social distancing as best as they could within their space. To start, the comforting environment & friendliness of the entire staff is noticed immediately upon entrance. The three times I have had my haircut here, I have been greeted by every staff member and each ensured that all my needs were met before getting my haircut. Next, my barber, Amber, has been absolutely fantastic. My first two cuts were test cuts to see if it met my needs and both were perfect & identical. I made her my choice to be my barber before my wedding day and, just like the previous two, she knocked it out of the park. The quality of the haircut, in combination with the excellent conversation & attention to comfort, makes this place & Amber a no-brainer for my haircuts. I came here a few times. The first time I came in the service was pretty good, however every time after that the service (mainly customer service), has been getting worse. At first I came for a beard trim and it was amazing. Second time felt like they were in a rush and it was ok, not great but ok. After that I came for another beard trim and asked if they could do a head shave, they said "ya sure (while rolling the eyes)... I can honestly say they did not how to do a head shave (hint, they missed spots in the back of my head)I've been to some other barber who were just fantastic when it came to head shaving, there not so much. The last straw was I came in at 2:40 PM (they close at 3) and said "were closing and we stop taking people at 2:45 PM. I used to work in the service industry and I am aware of it takes time to close down, however you put a sign that indicates it. Three other customers came in before 2:45 and were told the same thing with the same rude attitude. Hope this place improves. read more

Great ambiance and fun conversation. Felt confident during the cut, and the blade shave at the end to clean up the neck and sideburns was great. Massage I don't really care about, but it wasn't bad at all.. I'm just not a big massage guy. Man, this is the second barbershop I've been to as an adult... I had very high hopes for this place. You think you will get a good haircut maybe I was blinded from the scenery. So I left the so called barber shop with complete frustration and anger. My line-up is completely messed up on some areas and unfinished around the ears. They said nothing was wrong, well you'd expect that since it's their business and they don't like the criticism. Got my hair cut here before a job interview. The "man's haircut" is $16 I think. That's for making it one length on top (#1 clipper attachment) and cleaning up the back and round the ears with a taper. After my haircut the lady used this strange massage tool on my back for a few minutes. It totally made my skin itch. She said it was because the blood was flowing to those areas or something. I found it kind of jarring and uncomfortable, but hey try it, you might like it. Like the other barber shops in the area, these guys do not accept credit cards. Try Slim's Barber Shop...it's about 75 feet away from here and do great haircuts. read more

I followed my stylist from McHenry to this place nearly a year ago. The atmosphere is great. The staff are friendly. It has that old barber shop feel to it. The place is always busy, but the wait time isn't long. Customers always seem to be very happy. The woman in the first chair, probably the owner seemed to think her cell calls took priority over my haircut. She came back and parted my hair on the wrong side and went to work with the clippers. I told her to stop and she said I should part my hair in the middle??? She further butchered the other side with thinning scissors even after I told her again to stop ... telling me my hair will look great for three weeks. I'm from out of town and get my hair cut by a real barber every week. So I told her to quit while I still had hair. Oh, she also tried to grab my shoulders with this vibration gizmo that I remember the girl barbers in the Philippines using. That's when I got up and left. I went to O' Gradys to get a hair cut and beard trim. I wanted to see Jessica. She was not there. Julia, the manager, assured me that she specialized in beards and also did other professional Santas. I told her I wanted an inch off the beard and to shape it and also trim my hair. She took about 2-4 inches off the beard. The beard ended up ragged, uneven, and looked like hell. Even my wife commented. I had to take another 1-2 inches off at home to shape and make it presentable. I will never go there again! read more

I think I had my haircut with the owner. It was my first time there. I thought she did an adequate job, and she was very nice (she asks your name and makes small talk), but she caught me off guard when she pressured me into going to the restaurant across the road to get cash out out of an ATM because they don't accept credit cards (god knows why, in 2016). I wish she would have told me that before she started cutting my hair, as I would have went to my bank to get cash out. Something was fishy about the not accepting credit cards. In a high pressure environment like that, make sure you think on your feet and ask yourself if you really want to pay an ATM fee to get cash out to pay for your haircut. Overall, I can't recommend this place because they were shady with the form of payment accepted. I ended up tipping her well, but it's going to cost me 30 dollars for a haircut as a result of the ATM fee. Tip to management: Let your customers know ahead of time that you don't accept modern forms of payment (credit cards). Also, you should put a sign outside that states that you don't accept credit cards clearly. I walked away feeling like I got scammed, but she was a very nice lady. read more

Worst haircut ever. When I complained the owner got very defensive and said I did not give good directions on how to cut my hair. It's so bad I need to wear a baseball cap till it grows out.
