My husband and I found this place when we moved to Palatine in August 2020 and loved the entire staff. From that time thru nine months ago, a men's haircut (cut, fade, anything) was $16. About six months ago, all services went up to $17 - was fine with that... New staff, post-covid make up, etc... I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. Now two months ago, haircuts went up to $19 and fades starting at $20. Now today comes and there's been a fourth pricing change: haircut $20 and fades *starting* at $23 & up. If you know what you're doing, a fade isn't difficult and, sure, maybe adds a few extra minutes to your time there. Never have we been given any reasons for these increases and unless you look at the far back of the shop to see pricing, you're basically surprised when the person who did your hair says it's $3 more than less than two months ago. Will be looking elsewhere, which is extremely unfortunate. read more

Brought our 2-year old grandson into this shop for his first haircut. The staff are friendly and responsive. We were worried he wouldn't sit still for a haircut, but the stylist was so smart and suggested we show him a video on our phone. This is basically a men's barber shop. I've been here several times; so has my son. Wouldn't be a beauty salon type place that my wife or daughter might go to. So... the 5 stars is in that context. This is the old style type of barber shop you see in movies from the 1950s or TV programs. The entire staff take pride in their work. They are friendly. They listen. They recognize everyone is different and will cut accordingly. They are efficient, and even if the line is long get people in and out quickly. This is really a 'Men and boys only' review, since I have never seen a woman get a haircut in a barber shop, although they do list girls cuts on the menu, and they have one female barber. A neat, simple barber shop in downtown Palatine. A basic men's haircut is $15 plus tip, reasonable considering this isn't a clippers on, in and out "chop shop". Real barbers with real "barber-shoppy" things like straight razors and hot shave cream. Things I missed going to places like supercuts and other corporate places. Moms and dads with little guys will like this place, the barbers are friendly and offer a lollypop afterwards. Theres a tv and mirrors and a little case with barber shop things in it, just like you remember. They have 4 chairs, and can be busy on the weekend, however my visit today (Saturday) all 4 chairs were occupied yet the wait was about 5 minutes. I've been going here for about two years now and always get a quality haircut. No chit-chat, no fancy "salon" metrosexual crap, just a simple barber shop. The people here know what they're doing and that's all that matters to me. There is hardly ever a wait. Most of the time, you can walk in and get in a chair immediately. That is not to say they don't have much business, because they do. Every time I'm in there, a steady stream of customers come in and out. They do a great job and many other people obviously agree. I went to the Village Barber Shop after reading Yelp reviews of the place and am so happy I did. Parking right in front of the shop. Waited less than 10 minutes for my turn. Told the barber exactly what I wanted and she delivered 100%! The place reminds me of the old time shops my dad took me to when I was little. This seems to be a men's only place and that's ok with me. $15.00 for a haircut and a straight razor neck shave with hot shaving cream! I've been going here for over 10 years. There have been multiple people behind the scissors, but I always get a good haircut. I have never felt the need to request a specific barber in this shop no matter who was on duty. I also like the fact that they shave your neck with warm shaving cream at the end of each haircut; I find this very relaxing. read more

They have three chairs and usually three people cutting hair. It's a great place to get a haircut. You walk in and sit down. No need to wait more than a few minutes if there is a wait. Tell them what you want and they get cutting. They straight blade the back of your neck and sideburns too. $15 + $5 tip and you're still paying less than a salon and it's much better than a chain haircut place. Clean neighborhood barber shop. I went in specifically for a straight edge shave to remove a beard I had grown after hip replacement surgery. It was a great experience and a great shave. He also trimmed the back of my neck and when I walked out I felt like a new man. Highly recommended. read more

Had my normal haircut yesterday 05/31/17 at The Village Barber Shop in Palatine,Il.. Is the worst haircut I have had in at least 25 years (probably more). I took a chance and let this woman I have never seen before cut my hair. The owner does a fine job, but he is always busy because I think he trains these woman in his shop. Chopped the left side of my head so short that it sticks straight up. Then she cut the right side long enough so I can lay it down. Will take at least 2-3 weeks before I will be able to go into public without a hat. At minimum I will ask for my money back and let my neighbors know. read more
