As I continue to navigate AUSTIN, I find that typical gender type positions for men have transitioned to all genders, which is amazing. Me being able to see a woman install a battery which I know is not a big deal but for me it is because I'm use to always seeing Men care to this type of service. This is the second time this week. I've actually gone to a place and had assistance from a woman when I typically think that this job growing up it's a guy job. As I continue to grow up as a older adult, I realize that we are such powerful woman. I appreciate the two ladies that helped me out today and getting my car back up and running. Being able to be knowledgeable of how to navigate and use our resources is very key and should never be restricted to gender setting. I felt not only happy to write this review about the ladies who helped me today, but I want to encourage us as women that we should never continue to limit what we know is accessible to us as women. We don't have to live in the stereotype that I have grown up in where men have a certain job and women have a certain job. We can continue to transition and grow as we thrive through this changing world . I really need to work on my memory because I was to shout out the specific guy who helped me, but I didn't see a name tag and can't remember his name. That doesn't take anything away from how impressive his service was! My wife goes to this location from time to time and has the same opinion of their service. This guy not only came outside in the cold to use the little reader machine for my check engine light, but he saw my check oil light and helped me take care of that too. He helped me choose the right oil and even put it in for me. He also told me how to change the oil myself, which I didn't realize was so easy! Not all auto parts stores are created equal. This one is well above the others when it comes to the knowledge base of their staff and the willingness they put forward to help their customers. Not just in the normal "can I ring you up" and "what can I look up for you" kind of way, but in the way that counts and sets this location apart. I've often been told that we get out what we put into it, but I always feel like I get out a little more than I have to put in every time I visit. I went in the other day to get an owners manual for the kids truck and this is what I got in addition to the Haynes manual that inevitably comes in handy. I was doing an inspection to be sure the truck was in good running condition and saw a hose hanging down in the back. The kid was grounded until I could figure this one out. She hates that, but to be sure that the little bundles that give me so much joy come back to us after a day at school, they need to have a working vehicle that keeps them free from dangers that they won't ever think about and hopefully never experience. Something on the truck looked out of place, and that is not good. I know a thing or two about vehicles so that tends to give me an edge on diagnosis, but never having worked on transmissions or drivetrain aside from the engine, I wasn't going to attempt to say that I knew what was going on here. I knew that there was a hose coming off the rear differential, but not much more than that. Brakes looked good, no hydraulic lines were busted but this was something I didn't recognize. It came off the top of the differential casing. I asked for the book and told the guy at the counter my dilemma and where it was located etc. I asked him which manual he used, Chilton or Haynes, and he said he didn't but that he went to a technical college to learn how to fix cars and would, if necessary, use the big blue $300.00 manuals that the dealership usually paid for/subscribed to online. I know these mechanical types, and the only thing they like more than turning a wrench is troubleshooting and diagnosing without getting their hands dirty. After the manual was paid for, I suggested that I open it there on the counter and show him what was hanging where it shouldn't be. It was as I suspected, a vent hose for the rear differential. I still read the manual when I got home, but I felt better allowing the kids to leave for school this morning. That's what I call service, and even though there can be a little bit of a liability issue with allowing someone else to diagnose your problem over a counter, I feel better knowing that I can get much closer to the answer without spending $100.00 getting a mechanic to "inspect" it. Thirty dollars for a manual and a bit of free advice is much more worth my peace of mind. read more

I hate car stuff. Cars are stupid. No matter how new or used, something is always wrong. I hate cars. Did I mention that I don't like car stuff? This particular O'Reilly location is fantastic. The staff is always helpful, and remind us that if we can return something if it's the wrong size or whatever (which we've done). These guys go out into the parking lot and look inside the car to better answer your questions. I don't think they get paid enough, but they don't take it out on customers. Angel and Ed have been particularly helpful to us and never treat me like I'm a stupid girl. I am (about cars), but they don't condescend. Me gusta. read more

Almost every single time I've gone to O'Reilly's, I've been treated very well and the staff members who have helped me have listened to my problems without ever talking down to me. That's been true every time except one. A woman named Amanda "helped" me recently. First off, the woman looked bored to death, which is understandable because this is retail and it's not fun. However, once I started explaining my problem, she began to tell me I was wrong (without even referencing the vast automotive database at her fingertips). My truck couldn't possibly have three oxygen sensors, even after two people (one being a mechanic) told me it did after seeing for themselves. I decided I wasn't going to argue with her so I had her get the part for me. She ended up giving me the wrong O2 sensor (I have an OHV and she gave me SOHC). When looking this up online, it's very obvious they are both very different parts. I should've gone with my gut and told her to take it back, but I took it, only to have to return later to exchange it. It would've been nice had she looked it up on the computer. I thought maybe I possibly had misjudged her attitude, too, but once I told my mechanic friend about her, he ended up going in and being able to identify who I was talking about based on her rudeness to a customer over the phone. She won't keep me from shopping for a vehicle I know more about than she does. However, if I do go in during her shift, I'll direct my business to a different register. read more

Had a leaky radiator hose; car was overheating. Back tail light was out and blinker was not blinking. On the road all day, got stops to make for the job. Stopped by O'Reilly's and they helped make everything tip top. Let me borrow some tools so I could change out the parts. Even let me borrow the bathroom to wash up and look smart. I came in for a battery replacement and due to corrosion on my terminal, removing the old battery turned into an ordeal. 1 hour later in the Texas sun/heat, they successfully replaced my battery! I love this place! I like to change my car's air filter myself because it is very easy to do it yourself, and you can save some money, so I came here to get the air filter for my car. The staffs here are always so helpful, they gave me 2 options, and then let me know which one is better product, and I always buy the better one. Today was my last day buying parts from this Store. My daughter and I entered the store to get money back on some brake pads that would not stop squeaking. When my daughter entered the store she went to the first available parts clerk, but found out he was giving service to another gentlemen that was not at the counter. She waited then in somewhat of a waiting line that was pretty hard to describe with people just standing away from the counter in the isle. The service clerk "Keith" then called her forward and ask what she needed. He did not at the time show that he was rude, until he said I need your phone number to be able to return the part and give you your money. She explained that her phone number changed and it should be on her O'Reilly rewards card. He said he could not use her card to get the information and did not even attempt to try. Instead, I watched and waited, she then ask another Parts Service clerk "Kyle" of he could pull the information up. He pulled up the information and exchanged the part and returned her money back. After we received the cash back, I approached the first clerk and ask him why he did not scan my daughters reward card, his excuse was stupid...Keith said "He was mad because my daughter entered the store and butted in while a parts service guy was helping someone else. Issue being, there was no one person at the counter when she asked for help until Keith explained that this clerk is busy. My daughter waited patiently, I explained. No foul words were past, except when I ask him again what his personnel is set was, he would not give a good excuse when I told him his excuse for being mad is dumb and it's his job to give good customer service regardless, my daughter explained that the other store on Clear Creek gave her a bad time with getting a refund on the brakes and she then purchased another set of life time warranty but got nothing in return. Bottom line, Keith needs to get checked out with a doctor for his reasoning in the treatment of customers read more

I stopped by this store to buy a new blinker and brake light and to my surprise I found a few extra's already in the car. I wasn't sure if they were the bulbs I needed though, so I brought them in and thought I would ask, and would buy whatever else I needed to get the job done. Edrick(?) or Ed is the one who helped me. He informed me that I did in fact have everything I needed to change out the bulbs and as I was walking out he offered to help me with it, which I didn't think O'Reilly's did but I was grateful because it would have taken me an hour to do on my own seeing as how I am not very experienced with it... Ed was so nice & helpful, he even bought the light bulb grease for me, to help the new bulbs last longer.
