About 25 years ago, I purchased my first mobile phone. It was a flip phone that displayed the time in a tiny window when it was closed. Of course it was cool and I was too! I tried to get 3 keys cut and programmed. After 30 minutes trying to figure out if I could bring my own uncut keys, he told me yes for an extra $25 fee over their keys....then after 30 more minutes while he tried to find a SKU to scan, he said he couldn't do it. It was a weekend and they can only program keys on M-F. He then proceeded to cut the 3 keys after waiting for 3 hours. It was only $33, but for 3 hours?? I am a 100% offgrid RVer, now, and in the startup, of prepping for this, I asked the shop for their best recommendation for our solar system. The guy there said lithium was not worth the price, and the 6v batteries, are the ones I should get. Being "new" to this, I was nieve, to trust them, as we aren't getting much time, from the 4 batteries we bought from them (6 hours max). After reading into solar, charging, and storage, I realized the guy sold me the wrong batteries, for my needs. 12v batteries would have doubled my hour life, of our power, each day. Lithium would have been the best, for our constant drain and charge living. I contacted, the same store, I purchased from, and was denied help, as I was past my 14 day return policy. ALL I WANTED WAS "CORRECT" BATTERIES FOR MY APPLICATION. I asked for an exchange, for the correct ones, or at least a discount, as it was THEIR recommendation, I followed. I was denied ANY help. I also emailed customer service, but never even received a response. They are always very nice however sometimes they say your battery is dead and sell you a lifetime battery when it is not dead. The remote to my car wasn't working so I asked them to test the battery. It was only a few months old. They said it was totally dead and offered a lifetime replacement battery. I bought it bc I thought the remote was going through batteries so quickly. Wellllll..... the reason my remote wouldn't work was bc my car battery was completely dead due to me leaving the lights on. They sold me a $20 battery when mine was completely fine. Used this store for YEARS for my motorcycle batteries. They stopped carrying the acid filled, so a guy sold me another type for almost three times the price. Didn't fit my bike. Called someone else at the store the next day and he says they can't help me as they no longer carry anything for my bike. Found another battery somewhere else. Went on a trip, came back and tried to return the battery. Found out the only allow 14 days even if it didn't fit. Most people give you 30 days and I was unaware of that. Got the managers card and called her. She answered the phone and I asked if this was the person whose name was on the card and she was less than pleasant in here response for some reason. She said all she could do was an exchange. Tried to explain the situation and she was not friendly at all. Here I am, stuck with a $143.71 battery that an incompetent employee recommended. I understand the policy now. However, the fact that it wouldn't even fit in my bike should have been taken into consideration as well as some people are busier than others and their live can't revolve around their 14 day window, even if it is on the receipt. Came here to get an iPhone 6 battery after waiting at the Apple store only to be told they would not touch my phone because the phone had been previously worked on ( I had a battery replaced about 14 months prior by batteries plus) I reserved an online appointment which was easy and received $10 off. Service was fast and friendly. Much more convenient than going to Apple store. Keep in mind that if your iPhone is still under warranty don't take it here as it voids the warranty. New battery life is good. Previously battery lasted about 14 months. Think it was close to $65 to have it replaced. read more

Their prices are usually a tad bit higher than what you can find at Walmart, Target, or Amazon. What you get for the extra upcharge is so valuable, though. We always bring our car remotes, watches, and other small items that need battery renewal here. They usually have the right tools and skills to change out whatever battery is needed for your item. It's such a less stressful experience than what you would normally have to go through at home. It's worth it and the staff is always really nice about it. I really like this place and here is why: 1. The service staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. 2. The pricing is reasonable. 3. They carry an impressive selection of battery and light bulb products. 4. They recycle your old batteries here. Each time I have come in for service the staff has been very helpful and had their act together. A year ago I took in my 18 volt rechargeable power tool batteries because they were no longer holding a charge and asked for recommendation on what to do. The attendant explained that they could replace the internal battery components inside the original battery casing with all new components. It wasn't cheap but as I recall at the time their quote was something in the 2/3 to 3/4 of the replacement cost to buy brand new batteries from the original manufacturer. The reconstructed batteries I purchased are still holding their charge well a year later. (I confess they don't get used with great frequency). Today I went in to get my wrist watch battery replaced. They charged under $10 for parts and labor to replace the battery. That's like a third of what the jewelry repair shop at the mall charged me for my last replacement as I recall. I know the jewelers are used to huge mark ups for jewelry but should that apply to batteries as well? It took Batteries plus less than 10 minutes to perform the replacement. It's usually a thirty minute plus wait at the jewelry repair shop at the mall. While I got my watch battery replaced, I admired the vast selection of batteries, rechargeable batteries, battery chargers, flashlights, incandescent bulbs, florescent bulbs, halogen bulbs, and LED bulbs. Did I mention they got a lot of bulbs? They sell some unique products as well. I f even observed a solar powered battery charging device for use with iPhone's and Ipods. How cool is that? The bulb selection was impressive and the pricing seemed competitive to me based on my memories of my last visit to Home Depot or Lowes. I didn't have a side by side list of prices to say this with conviction but it seemed that some of their LED bulbs were quite competitive with what I have seen at the big box stores. Review time kids! Wow,me giving a place a 1 star review....just wow. Please understand I HATE doing this. Why you ask? Well I'm a firm believer in doing business with "brick and mortar" stores in this age of"scamazon has that and will deliver it!" My personal feeling is that, one,people need to eat, two, faceless corporations can survive without what little I can give them, three, actual customer service. I apologize this review will be a little "ranty" and technical. So fasten your seatbelts for this one!! So back in March I was building a motorcycle for Daytona bike week and came to the point where the lil' scooter was ready for flowing electrons. Off I go to this place, why? Brick and mortar and the "1year battery warranty". Fast forward to first week of June and I notice the battery is not holding a charge(dropping to around 6volts DC). I disconnect it from the bike and throw it on a an electronic trickle charger. Nope...it caps at around 10-10.5 volts. Double check it has water in it, little low, topped it off with distilled water and hooked it up to an old "iron core" charger. Wham! 12.2 volts!! I'm good to go! Well as busy life gets, it sat on the bench(wood) for about 5 days before I had the chance to drop it back in. What he double hockey stick? I'll check it with the multimeter before I do the deed. Well there it is disconnected,no loading but air and she's parked at 4.45 volts! No problem right,must be a"dead cell" it happens, and I have a warranty.....or so I thought. First I'll start with the good stuff. This place is clean and very well stocked. Exactly what I'm looking for in a business. And not for nothing the employees are nice enough. So here's where things turn south. Enter store, greeted by guy #1 explain to him what's going on with the battery. Guy#1 pulls meter out" woah this thing is really dead." Me"yeah that's why I'm here" Guy#1 "I don't think we can warranty it,it so dead." Me" uhhh I bought it because it has a warranty." Guy#1 "I can get the manager" Me " please " Manager (pleasant enough guy) pulls out their meter again and start with the same "this is really dead"line from guy#1 Me " yes it is, and proceed with the same technical breakdown. And explaining the charging and load systems on the bike(lighting and ignition only) " Manager" well I don't think it's the correct application for this battery" Now at this point I can feel my blood pressure rise. I grab the battery off the counter and say I can see where this is going and start for the door. This is where it gets funny for me. The manger says "where are you going?thats it?" Me"yes,I can see where this is going" Manager"but we were having a conversation" Me "and now it's over. Have a good day" And walked out. Now could I have stayed? Sure. But heres the thing. I'm not in the business of expecting something for free. I'm also not clueless. I've been building and repairing motorcycles for 25+ years and was an HVAC tech professionally for 30 years. These folks are frauds. They sold me an incorrect battery for my vehicle that then failed within a week. Reinstalled another incorrect battery and then asked me to purchase a new battery coz the manager was not on site that day and they could not process the exchange. The mgr was supposed to call which he never did. When I called them 5 days later the manager said he can't do anything since the owners are now different and the old owners made the mistake not them. As a customer I bought it from batteries and bulbs, don't care who owns the store or the franchise. The manager is the rudest person with no customer service sense. He said , " I can't do anything, this conversation is over" and just hung up on me. All this after 3 of his technicians all assured me that it's their fault not mine and the manager would make it right when he is back in the office. Crappiest person to deal with it. TL:DR - Batteries Plus Bulbs sells and installs car batteries and the store on 620 in Austin, TX, does an outstanding job, mostly due to the Store Manager, David Rapson, who goes above and beyond for his customers. First of all, Batteries Plus Bulbs sells and installs car batteries. I did not know this until a few months ago. Since then I have purchased two car batteries for pickup + install from the 620 store in Austin, TX. Both of the vehicles had issues with the installs, but the one I purchased this past week needed a very challenging installation because the negative cable was fused to the battery terminal due to so much corrosion. The Store Manager, David Rapson, and one of his vendor reps who happened to be visiting the store that day had to take quite a while to get the old battery removed. They had to be creative to get the job done but they did everything right. There is no way I could have done the install myself and it gave me peace of mind to be able to see exactly what they were doing. If you need a battery, I would highly recommend Batteries Plus Bulbs, particularly the store on 620 if you are in the Austin area. The employees are polite and professional and they have proven that the installs are done right. read more

I needed to have my phone screen replaced. I searched online and saw that Batteries Plus could do it and for a little more I could change my battery out at the same time. I needed to schedule a time, online, to bring it in and I did just that, I scheduled 12pm so I could drop it off over my lunch hour. I showed up a couple of minutes before the scheduled time to check in. There were no other customers in the store, so I was checked in right away. When this was completed I was told, "it would take an hour." That would be fine, I could then pick it up and head back to work. The manager took down an alternate phone number in case they needed to reach me. Everything was looking good at this point until I returned an hour later. The manager was busy changing out key fob batteries and I had to wait to get up to the counter. When I did get up to the counter I explained I was back to pick up my phone. The clerk went searching for it and told me it wasn't ready that it would take a half hour. WHAT?? I waited and talked to the manager and all he would say is that,"it would take an hour". I said, that's what you said and hour ago. His response was, "Well we got busy." Really, so what's the point of scheduling a time to bring something in then? Why tell me it'll be ready in an hour and then not even touch it? Was it suppose to fix itself? You never called to tell me it would take longer! You then then had the nerve to tell me again that it'll take and hour. Which hour? It certainly wasn't the first hour. NOT PROFESSIONAL Guys! Way to disappoint!! read more

I'm a big fan of Batteries Plus. They'll recycle your used batteries (free, if you buy something) which is great when you have kids who use a zillion battery-powered things. Plus they do car key fob battery replacement quickly (you know, when your car door will never open on the first press). And you can buy replacement light bulbs, which nowadays are LED and last way longer than they used to. Prices are reasonable and service is good. You can knock out three chores at the same time. I went in for a rear camera repair. I scheduled my appointment. They didn't have my appointment. The clerk didn't even understand basic phone hardware questions. Clearly Batteries Plus has just hired teenagers to work in their back office to work on cell phones and BP has very little to do with it at all. The didn't have the parts so I actually had to buy the parts myself and bring them in to have them put in. I brought them in. They broke my screen trying to repair the rear camera. So I had to come back another time (for a third time) to have a more experienced teenager fix it. They replaced my screen with a knockoff screen that is vastly inferior to the Apple stock screen in every way. They lied to me that it was an Apple screen. It certainly is not. When they replaced my rear camera they left dust and dirt on the inside of the lens. So in conclusion. I now have a knockoff screen that doesn't react correctly to touch, is raised to the touch with a rim around the phone, and a rear camera that does now work HOWEVER is dirtied up with dust and dirt so is useless. You're better off trying to fix your phone yourself off a youtube video or something. Good luck. read more

I encountered a terrible sales associate on two occasions at this store. I believe his name is John. I was asking him about a coin battery that I wanted to use for a project and seemed to be annoyed by my questions. He was not very happy to be there and was condescending with his response to my questions. He later told me he has a hard time hearing. I just kept firing away with question after question and these guys never showed even the slightest sign of irritation. They were both eager to help a customer. First time ever to this store. Have had it on my list of places to drop in as I have seen a few locations around town and it looked interesting. I have a few odd items on my shopping list that I thought would be good candidates to be here so I stopped in this evening. Immediately it reminded me a bit like Radio Shack. Prices on the high side but a lot of hard to find items too so no complaints. In fact, if you had asked me to assess the likelihood of there being a subsequent Yelp review in the cards prior to my visit, I would have thought it to be unlikely. Here it is, the birth of a review worthy experience: I was the only customer in the store at the time and I was greeted promptly by the staff member (Manager? Owner?, not sure). He asked me if he could help me find anything in particular. I replied that I was there as a first time customer and always wanted to drop in, but asked if he carried 18650 batteries. He asked me what I was using it for? I answered that I would be using it in an e-juice vaporizer. Here's where things went down hill. (Paraphrasing-but almost verbatim) "oh our 18650s won't work in those." I look at him perplexed and asked him if the Amps or Mah were somehow different than any other 18650 batteries that I already use in my vaporizers. It was at this point where the visit rolled off the hill and over a cliff. (Again not a direct quote but close enough to use quote marks without misrepresenting what he said) "our head office doesn't want us selling people batteries for those things." And that was it. No elaboration. No "sorry I lied to you the first time" no explanation of the company policy ( a safety concern of some kind I would think though I can't be sure). I asked him if there were many cases of these batteries venting. Nothing. He was just done with the conversation. It wasn't a contentious conversation. He wasn't nasty or anything. I even wished him a nice evening and he did the same. If I had told him that I needed the battery because I was conducting a risky home science experiment to help teach my kids about the chemistry of electronics then I would understand him saying anything to get me to leave. But this is a replacement battery for an electronic cigarette and I'm in my 40's. At least let's have a laugh and tell me a bit how this policy came about. Nope. Homeboy was D-U-N done!! So is this a legitimate company policy explained poorly and with contradictions by an employee? Or his own thing? Who knows but what a surreal and disappointing first shopping experience. I usually pick up batteries and bulbs while at HEB or Home Depot, and I would wonder why a store like this one is necessary. Then I needed a specialty battery for a watch, and I gave them a try. They had the watch battery in stock, and also replaced it and set my watch for me. Some places refuse to open watches, so I was happy to find that they aren't so timid. So happy, in fact, that I brought a couple more dead watches in to have their batteries replaced. I noticed that they also stock and install car batteries, so the last time mine died (in the cold, as always), I had them install one for me. Now this place is on my radar. When one of my kids' ridiculously expensive calculators mysteriously became separated from its charger, I found a universal replacement charger here. When it still wouldn't hold a charge, I brought it back to see if it might need a new battery. One of the employees took my calculator to the back to open and inspect it, and brought it back in a few minutes working. He had found a loose connector wire inside, so it didn't need a battery after all. Fully charged, at no charge. That reminded me of my grandfather in his hardware store when I was a kid, helping people figure out and fix stuff, and earning their repeat business for life. So I found something I needed anyway. For a small store, they stock an amazing variety of light bulbs and batteries. They also accept batteries and fluorescent bulbs to recycle if you're buying replacements. If you aren't, they charge a small recycling fee, because they have to pay to have them recycled. Worth it to keep them out of the trash and to avoid the drive across town to the hazardous waste disposal site. Their prices may be a little higher than the big-box stores on some items, but not on others. I like the personalized customer service. Since I don't have my grandfather around anymore, I have to find places like this to help me out. Glad they're not too far away. read more

After the Apple store refused to replace my iPhone 6 battery because it had come in contact with water two years ago, I made a same-day appointment with Batteries Plus Bulbs on 620 to have it replaced. Thinking it would be at least an hour of work, I was surprised they let me book the appointment at 7pm when they closed at 8pm and figured I'd have to leave it with them overnight. However, I was immediately greeted by two very nice gentlemen who were friendly and changed out the battery in under 10 minutes, and they even gave me a $10 discount for booking online. The store itself is awesome, with every electrical, battery, and light-related accessory you can think of! Quite a departure from my first visit. I came in on Saturday morning about 10:20 AM and that was about eight customers in the shop two employees. They were obviously very busy. I hung around for about 10 or 15 minutes, no change in the amount of customers in front of me, they seem to be having computer problems so I decided to go get breakfast and come back. I come back and they are still packed. But now they have one more employee. Several customers standing there and they still have computer problems no one ever says a word to me. Finally its starting get to close to my turn and darned if they don't select somebody else that just walked in the door after me.. that wouldn't happen if they would actually look up from the computer screens for two seconds and see who comes in the door. I called around and found the best deal at the Batteries Plus down the street. I never thought I would go in there but here I was...going in. Bought the battery and went on my way. For the past two years I drove around with a watch that needed a new battery, thinking that one day when I had some time I would take it to get fixed.
