I left work early today because I was planning on swinging by on my way home so that I could pick up a 12V, sealed lead acid battery to replace a dead battery in a computer UPS (uninterruptible power supply). I arrived about 3:45 and the door was locked. An employee came to the door to tell me that they were closed because of the need to do end-of-the-month inventory and bookkeeping. Okay, I understand that, but shouldn't you do that after your posted closing time? Anyway, the employee suggested that I could visit their Auburn location tomorrow. Their Saturday hours are 9AM to noon. Well, that's not very convenient, especially since Auburn is about a 40 minute drive for me. It would be one thing if I had other business in the area, but... Looks like I'll either have to go to Batteries+Bulbs in Marlboro to get what I need or see if I can order one online. God, I miss RadioShack. Anyway, my friends, this is a great example of how not to run a retail business.

As one of the few approved stores within my vicinity that handles Xfinity Mobile Assurant claims, I brought in my phone to get my cracked screen replaced. It was working perfectly fine, but since there is no deductible, I figured why not? I'm paying for the service. I filed the claim and then the day of the repair he called me to tell me that he doesn't have the screen because my Galaxy S22 is white and he would need to get it from another store because the insurance company wouldn't let him use a non white screen. He said he would call me back when he got the part. I said fine, even though I thought it was weird because all the phone screens regardless of phone color have a black bezel. I looked it up on Amazon and there doesn't seem to be any differentiation in color for screen replacement. After not hearing back for a couple of weeks I call back, he said he still doesn't have it but he said that Assurant must've updated the part numbers since then, because now he can use the part he already has. Great. Met Brian, the store owner, very nice guy and left my phone with him. He calls me back a couple of hours later saying that due to some logic board issue the phone won't work anymore. He said it was probably due to some system or firmware update, but no screen is going to work with this phone anymore. There was nothing he could do for me except give me back my now completely useless phone. I contact Assurant and now they say I have to pay a $99 deductible to replace my phone because the shop had stated there was additional damage to the phone and my repair was rejected. Complete BS, because my phone had been working completely perfectly until I took it in for a screen replacement. I've now had to go a week without a phone and lost all my pictures, texts and everything else on my phone. I've been on the phone with Assurant for hours and they say they just have to take the shop owners word that there was other damage to the phone that was beyond his control. Personally, I'm pretty certain he doesn't know how to fix my phone and accidentally broke a connection on the phone, but is not taking responsibility for it. I learned the hard way, that when you get your phone screen repaired via insurance (ironically which is meant to avoid risk), the customer assumes all the risk and if the store breaks your phone, that's on you. I get the pleasure to pay $99 for this valuable lesson. Learn from me...if you have a cracked screen, run from this repair shop and run from Assurant. A scam all around.

It's only when I heard that slow cranking on a couple of cold mornings, & thought of waiting for AAA in the cold, & of the hours that my trickle charger would take to prevent that, I finally was "energized" into finally doing something about my battery problems. I arrived around 1/2 hr before close, explained my situation, & before closing time, I'd had all my dead soldiers taken away, the old battery tested, found seriously wanting (Lord knows how long the previous car owner had that battery- I'd had it & the car for 3+ years, & the guesstimate lifetime is 5ish years), and the new battery put in. Pleasant staff, quick thinking & efficient operation, w/ no upselling pressure; I opted for the 3 year warranty on a new battery vs. the 1 yr, so spent I think $150 vs. $100. I feel I got a fair deal. I truly love getting in the car enroute to work & hearing that thing just turn over as it should, no matter what the temperature is!
