O'Tooles is a fantastic place to visit when you go to Royal Oak, and has wonderful ambience and attracts the locals and and for both sexes plenty of people and a healthy mix of different types. It's a great place to meet someone for a conversation or just to get hammered off of one of their very large beer bongs they will deliver table-side. Well it has been many years since I have enjoyed a beer bong, I have yet to see you wanted another bar in Royal Oak especially like they have here. This place is very unique, very loud, and always busy when Royal Oak his visit. As I said above this as a crowd much different than Woodys across the street and fifth avenue next door. I went to O'Toole's for the first time a few weeks ago and I have to say, the stuffed mushrooms were EXCELLENT! I LOVED the atmosphere there. Not too loud and the drinks were pretty nice as well. Service needs a little work but overall my experience was nice. I would patronize again. read more

We sat at the bar and the owner ended up buying everyone sitting there a shot of Jameson. That was a kind gesture. It went down hill from there. At one point some loser patron was using the word n****r. I was telling him to not say it again and that I was offended. In the middle some pipsqueek that worked there came up and said to me, my friend and the jerk saying it that if he heard us say it again he'd throw us all out. I tried to explain, he refused to listen. About a half hour later I got up to use the restroom and saw the guy that worked there and approached him to clarify and explain. As I attempted to he over talked me, talked down to me and refused to acknowledge that I was telling the patron to stop using the word. It ended with me walking out and telling him to f*** off as he was adamant that I had some part in the whole thing. I even explained that I have two black kids and I'd never utter that words. I have frequented O'Tooles quite a bit over the last few years living in Royal Oak. Overall, it's a good place to watch a game or have a night out with some friends. There are a bunch of flat panel TVs everywhere so anywhere you sit, you won't miss the action. We came here a lot during MSU's March Madness run. Drink prices are what you'd expect in Royal Oak. Slightly above average than most other cities, but nothing that'll break the bank. Lately, I've been ordering the tower (3L) of blue light, which is $20. Basically equates to $2.5/pint of beer if you want to do the math. definitely the way to go if you have a few people around the table. If you are feeling patriotic, you can get 3L of PBR for $15. EVEN BETTER DEAL!! Service is always 50/50. It seems like they have more servers now, which is a big plus. Last night the service was excellent, but other times, it has lacked. My one major qualm - the shot girls. good god, please stop this or only have 1. very few people buy these. it's pretty apparent since 2-3 girls walk around with a full tray of them and come by every 10 minutes. read more

My experience was nothing like everyone else's because I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm for lunch. No one was here so that made my food quick. My waitress was new, first day on the job, so she was trying extremely hard to make sure we were satisfied. My food was great. I played some video games and just kicked back. I don't drink so I can't say my drinks sucked. What I will say is that I had an OK experience compared to everyone else. My suggestion, go for lunch. read more

O'Toole's has the best reuben around, hands down. I'm not sure about their other food, but their reuben is amazing, and I get it every time I go there. The homemade potato chips are to die for, too. They also carry Spaten, my favorite German beer, in the fall, which is another huge reason I'm a fan of this place. The service is decent, not the best but definitely not the worst, and it can get crowded on nights when there is a "big game," but I really don't have any complaints. One of these days I'll try something other than the reuben, but I love it so much I can't imagine not getting one whenever I go there. read more

Great location for ABE as the stage is outside and there are many TVs for sports. Really decent menu with good food variety. Have some drafts you won't find elsewhere. But why do I always seem to get the new/ weak server? After waiting five minutes the manager brought me a menu and took my beer order. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't my favorite... my boyfriend and I went there because the place we originally wanted to eat at was on an hour wait and he wanted to watch the Steelers/Bengals game. Lots of TV's, so that's a positive. We were told to sit wherever we wanted, so we grabbed a table not too far from the pool table so we were closer to the big cluster of TV's. It took about 10 minutes to finally get a waitress, and she had money hanging out of her bra, which was a bit different. Took our drink orders and brought them back pretty quick - no complaints there. Took our food order and didn't write it down, but I've seen plenty of waitresses do that (myself included), so didn't think anything of it. Food came out and my boyfriend ordered a Philly, but instead got a French Dip. No problem - they're not really a whole lot different. My ranch chicken wrap was eh - not a whole lot of flavor. You get what you pay for garbage beer that is almost always out of stock anyways, horrible service, and double check your receipt before paying they tend to add extra charges (charged us extra for beer during a special stating prices are subject to change however it was a domestic bottle advertised at $2.50). read more

Today for arts beats and eats, my uncles band was playing right outside this bar which was great! We brought in a group of 10 to have drinks, eat some snacks and listen to his band play. Everything was going great until we decided to leave and walk the festival and it started to rain. My aunt and uncle were back in the bar spending more money and I had my Down syndrome sister with me who remind you, is 19 years old but clearly can not stand up for herself. The both of us and one of my friends walk in, (get asked for id) we show the door guy and as we get into the bar to find my aunt and uncle we get stopped and they won't allow us in any further to find her parents. She's overwhelmed, a lot of people and stuff going on she's not understanding why we just can't go in to find them and she panics. I had to have my friend who she doesn't know stand out in the rain while i rush in to find them. REMIND YOU.. just after I walked in and was told my little sister couldn't be in there to find her parents, a mom and her son who was about 3 years old walks in no problem. I'm completely shook how someone could be so rude and judge mental. Pick and choose who you want in? What makes the mom and son any different from myself and my Down syndrome sister to enter that bar ONLY took look for her parents who were at that bar spending money, again. I most definitely will not be back. I run a bar/restaurant and I would never have allowed for that to happen at my place and it's unfortunate that they just couldn't be more understanding in the situation I was in. I'm 25, and I tried to take my married friend from out of town here. The bouncer tried to tell me that my ID was fake, and that I was clearly under age. As proof he asked me my drivers license number and I didn't have it memorized. We were in town for a show at the Royal Oak Theater on a Sunday evening, and this was the only place open within walking distance at 10:30 pm. The music was so loud that we could not talk. We ordered a burger and some nachos. The burger was average. The server brought the nachos out at least five minutes after the burger and we were given chicken nachos instead of the beef. It was another 10 minutes to get the corrected order, and the food was definitely not worth the wait. Being a Sunday evening, the place was not that busy. The staff was not attentive. I think it's really crappy when you specifically order a Cobb salad with NO onions and your sever says absolutely no problem. Of course you get onions on your salad and she apologizes and says "I wrote it down" then comes back 1 minute later saying she grabbed the wrong salad...but you can see half the onions are still there. yesterday i had the worst restaurant/bar experience of my going out everyday life. i was meeting up with a few friends for drinks, they like the mug night, i had been to otooles a couple times before, it was meh, nothing special. as soon as i arrived at the table my friend "Bob" had a very interesting story to tell me. before my arrival my freinds enjoyed a round of tequila shots- and Bob's had a piece of ice in it. He took the shot to only realize that is was a shard of GLASS, a centimeter large. he brought this to the waitress's attention and she said she would talk to the manager. At that point i ordered my first beer, and updated my facebook status (so i could keep track of how long she took) 20 later she came back to talk to Bob and said the owner gave his sincerest apologies, and that the round was on the house, as well as my beer....which she had not yet brought 20 minutes later she asked our table if we wanted shots. we said no. she said she would send over the shot girl. she had not brought my beer, and two more of my freinds ordered more beers (i was in a group of 6.) 10 minutes later she returned with a round of beers for the whole table ( we ordered 2 summer shandies and 1 Labbatts, not 6 Shandies.) she apologized again, but told us to keep them but the extras would be on her. It was about midnight, we wanted to cash out and go to a different bar. we asked for a separate check for Bob since he had given her his credit card, and the rest of us could figure out the rest with cash. The waitress came back with Bob's credit card ran through for $173, there was an extra round of shots on the bill, and about ten extra beers that our table never had. Bobs bill should have only been 6 beers and 2 shots shared between him and his girlfriend. by the time the bill was straightened out it was one thirty so we all just went home. this was more Bob's worst experience and not mine, considering he was the one with a huge shard of glass in his shot. There are a lot of what if's in this situation- what if he had actually swallowed the glass? Glass can cause severe physical damage. I was very surprised that the whole tables bill was not comped. i also could not believe that it took 50 minutes for me to get my one and only beer. also the the waitress was very physically flirtatious with Bob, very touchy-feely. the group was 4 girls and two guys... chances are at least one girl was his girlfriend. i did not find it appropriate. i think everyone should pass on otooles. no glass for me thanks!! read more

Eric the bouncer is horrible. He sat there and screamed at me in my face that I lied to him about getting my sister and cousin and that I had to use the bathroom. Steve is the best bouncer at this place. He went in and got my sister and cousin for me. He's the best. Eric was so rude. I've never been treated so poorly by a man. I get that it's a sports bar, and young servers who love to show there boobs (even if they don't have any) are what I should expect, but have they EVER been trained as servers or read the menu? I came up here with my husband to watch the lions game on a Sunday. It was very busy and the atmosphere felt as though we were at the game. They have several large hd TVs to watch all the games on! I ordered the cheeseburger and onion rings and my husband had the salmon sandwich. They were both very good but I must say the salmon sandwich was AMAZING! The waitress was very attentive and made us feel as though we were her only table. The manager came by to check on us and thank us for coming in. I have no complaints about any of the "trashy servers" as other reviewers have stated. I thought that they were plenty covered and IT IS a bar, no one can expect a server to be wearing A full length dress with a turtle neck. Great place to go to watch a game. Lots of TVs and they will even turn the volume on for you if you ask. The menu is greatly improved and they have free delicious popcorn, too. Service was very good. They are also nice enough to accommodate special requests. A manager last year was kind enough to ask a table to stop smoking as my wife was pregnant. Will frequent again. read more

this weekend feb sat 11th 2012 my wife stayed at the Alpin Hotel in Rouyn PQ. excellent hotel. highly recommend it. Attached to it is an O'toole's restaurant. service good , wife had fish and chips and caesar salad. all good. I of course batted a thousand! french onion soup was bland with brown bread and 2 cheddars. do not recommend! also had the combo wings and ribs. ribs were dry,luke warn and overdone. wings were ordered with "hot" sauce. these wings came with a dry rub of cayenne pepper and paprika. very disappointed in my meal. mike and karen from north bay ontario canada. read more

How would you feel when you go there and they give you your money back with no change, and their excuse it "oh we dont have change, or carry change" What type of place is that.
