Located inside the Lockwood Folly Country Club club house (open to the public) and the first thing that blows you away are the spectacular views of the Lockwood Folly river. I had the fish and chips. The beer-battered cod was crispy on the outside and moist and flavorful inside. The fries (chips) were crunchy and delicious. Reasonable pricing makes the entree that much better! The full-service bar offers whatever alcoholic drink suits your fancy at a very reasonable price. Service was good (not exemplary). All in all, I can recommend this establishment as a great lunch destination with an awesome view. read more

Not impressed at the Saturday Prime Rib night. 4 of us got the prime rib. We found it chewy. One person wanted it medium-well done. It came out seared, like it was broiled or pan fried. Uh-uh...you don't do that to prime rib...wrong. And... We were told that the dinners came with a "green and yellow squash medley". When I asked if I could get only green squash, no yellow, I was told, No. We asked if there were any other veggies that we could have; we were told, No. Then the meals came out with a yellow squash, bean & broccoli medley...no green squash. We were then told that they DIDN'T have any green squash, but it miraculously came out with some beans and broccoli. HUH??? Waitress was very rude and unprofessional, according to my receipt her name was TJ. After I ordered waitress said of course you would be the one to screw it up. I had no idea she was trying to take someone else's order first. She could have politely just said let me get her first and then I'll come back to you. When she responded with "of course you would be the one to screw it up" it felt racist as I was the only person of color at my table. I ordered a blt with crispy bacon, she served it with an unprofessional attitude saying here's your blt with your crispy bacon. This was a very humiliating and embarrassing experience. read more

Well, we tried the "new management" at the restaurant today. Perhaps we'll give it a few months before we visit again and hopefully they'll get settled in. While we waited 25 minutes for the cheeseburger we were patient. Then it arrived and we were told there were no tomatoes because they were out; also apparently out of lettuce because we had spring mix on the burger; also told they were out of pickles for the burger but a sliced kosher dill was on the plate. The cheeseburgers were ordered medium and they both came out rare. Once they were returned to the table 20 minutes later, the server told us the whole plate had been prepared new - not true. The knife slices on both burgers where we had cut into them was still there - they had just been placed on new buns because the old buns were slightly soaked with blood. I didn't eat but half of mine as the other half tasted as though it had been cooked in stale, stagnant grill grease. When the check arrived there was no itemized bill, just a total on the table side point of sale system - which is okay but when I asked for a printed receipt, all I got was the total receipt. There was no way to check and make certain that two cheeseburgers w/curly fries and one ice tea and one water was correct at $31.00 (that was after the 10% member discount). I know it takes a bit to get settled in but honestly, it was just a hamburger - nothing new about that except the price. For the time we spent today, we could have driven to Five Guys and for the same price gotten a much better hamburger, fries and two drinks at a less price. Good luck. read more

Three times dining here after new management and we will not succumb to a fourth. Of course the exceptional view has not changed, which is the only positive I can offer. Last meal there I had soup and a grilled cheese. The soup was inedible and the grilled cheese was not grilled properly. Two slices of cold American cheese on poor quality barely grilled, dry bread. We waited a long time for our check as well as to be seated. The restaurant was overall good with prior management, however, despite its potential, we are disappointed. read more

Came here to have an early lunch before our golf round. The view of the Lockwood Folly is spectacular with the live oaks in the foreground. Husband and I both ordered cheeseburgers - his with regular fries, mine with sweet potato fries. Ordered them medium and they were cooked perfectly, but meat could've used a bit more seasoning. Other than that, the meal was fine. We'll have to comeback to try something other than burgers, but the setting was definitely worth it! The service was quite good as well and our server even gave us "to-go" cups of our drinks for the course. read more

Ate here during a Wed. Night special for wings. Service was very slow and inattentive. Food was acceptable in taste, not the best I've ever had, not the worst. We arrived and were seated promptly. Menus were delivered after a few minutes. Wait staff said they would be right back to take our drink order. Waiting, waiting... after several minutes we were asked for our drink orders. No mention of food or specials, no chatting, appeared to be rushed, however the dinning room was not that busy, about 4 tables (one large party) and 3 servers with one bus person. After about 10 minutes later, asked us for our order. It's now probably 15-20 minutes after we arrived. We ordered the wings (hot and buffalo sauce.) Food when it was delivered was hot and pretty good. The wings could here been crisper, however the sauces were tasty. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, they were lacking taste. Should have had more seasoning before breading I think. Convenient dining option if you are at Lockwood Folly. Maybe the service is better at lunch... not impressed overall. read more

The view alone gets five stars plus. Without the view, I would probably go with two stars. The food/menu was OK but nothing all that special. What my main problem was was the service. It was slower than it should have been based on my order and on the number of patrons. Took a lot longer. When I finally got my check (after having to wave down a different server) I handed my credit card to my server before she walked away which in my mind is the universal message of "I am tired of waiting" and she said "it's going to be a while before I can run this, two tables' food is ready." Mmmm, is there no one else who could do that for you? My order was the grilled chicken sandwich (could be blackened) which had a nicely flavorful sauce. I ordered it on whole wheat bread rather than on a bun which was my mistake as it fell apart - just hard to eat. I will say that the fries were really good. Now about that view...THAT is why I will return to Oak & Anchor. I sat outside under the pergola and looked out across beautiful Lockwood Folly over to the west end of Oak Island. Boats, birds and even a biplane came into view. It was peaceful. read more

The Oak and Anchor at Lockwood Folly is under new management and so far it has been an excellent experience. Lunch was great as well as Wednesday Wing Night and Friday Prime Rib Night. The waterfront view at Lockwood Folly cannot be beat. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. It you haven't been there yet, it is worth the trip. read more

Party of 4, arrived at 5:30, the place was empty, only one other table was seated. We were asked if we had a reservation because it is Prime Rib night (recently changed from Thursday to Friday). We were unaware, but asked if we could be seated. Were told no, that there is not enough rib to accommodate our four. (What?? you don't prepare for a few walk-in's!) And there was NOTHING else to offer off the menu other than a smothered chicken breast. Really? A restaurant that can't even wrestle up a burger or pasta or whatever for a non-prime diner? We didn't necessarily want prime rib. We were shocked! As a local resident, this was very very disappointing as we were really hoping for this place to rise and shine. I have more options in my own kitchen! Too bad Oak & Anchor, you really blew this one. read more
