We recently had dinner at Tranquil Harbour and unfortunately the food didn't live up to the excellent service. Our waiter and the staff were all friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout the evening. We started with the fried shrimp appetizer, which had far too much breading and overwhelmed the shrimp itself. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside but undercooked and doughy in the center. My husband and I both ordered the OKI Surf & Turf. The crab cake was the standout of the meal--flavorful and well prepared--but the filet tasted more like a sirloin than a tender filet. My mother-in-law ordered the scallops, which arrived undercooked and had to be sent back. While the kitchen quickly corrected the issue, the scallops that came back had a weird texture. We also had a Caesar salad and a garden salad. Both were fresh enough, but neither was particularly memorable. The garden salad included Asiago cheese, which overpowered the other ingredients rather than complementing them. $3 extra for each salad-- not worth it. The atmosphere was beachy and casual with tons of young families. The bar had an older crowd but fun. I would suggest that the bar should have a frozen drink machine or blender for frozen drinks. Overall, the service was great and the staff worked hard to make our experience enjoyable, but the food was disappointing and not something we'd go out of our way to return for. read more

We wasted an hour of our lives and still did not get seated. We were quoted a 45-60 minute wait and were told it was fine to walk around while we waited. I was told specifically that we had 15 minutes after being called to still be seated. I admittedly missed the calls, but I noticed it almost immediately. The restaurant called three times all within about 30 seconds (screenshot for proof), and by the time we walked back in, waited in line for the hostess, and gave our name, only three minutes had passed since the first call. Despite the 15-minute return window we were explicitly told we had, the hostess insisted we were "late" and had already given our table away. Management then got and involved and their response was to continue to reiterate that, "We called three times," completely ignoring the both fact that we returned well within the timeframe they had given us, the fact that only 3 minutes had elapsed since the first call, and the fact that the calls all occurred within a period of 30 seconds. The most frustrating part wasn't losing the table, it was how poorly the situation was handled. There was no attempt to honor what we had been told, no effort to accommodate us or to ask us to wait a few more minutes to be seated, and no apology for the miscommunication. Instead, both the hostess and management were dismissive and argumentative. It was an incredibly frustrating experience and a really strange way to treat customers. After waiting nearly an hour, we left without ever being seated. Don't waste your time. read more

Atmosphere is top-notch. Beautiful scenery to look at over the intercoastal waterway. Excellent service from the staff and the local band (I didn't catch the name tho) was a lot of fun. However, I was very disappointed in the portions I received. A $30 shrimp platter should include more than 14 shrimp and a handful of fries. Yes, I understand a vacation is all about 'the experience' , but I can't eat 'experience' and atmosphere , while relaxing, isn't very filling. read more

We ordered carry out from here and it was an overall good experience. The order was ready on time and all the extra stuff you'd want was already packed up (I.e. silverware, extra napkins, sauces, etc). The food held up pretty well to carrying out (that's not always the case). The portions were great and the kids meals met my kids' very specific standards! I would definitely recommend it as a man easy option for carry out food if you're staying on the island and can't be bothered to dine out like us (my kids wouldn't leave the pool!!) read more

Friendly, clean, casual vibe restaurant. Jess was a great waitress: polite, friendly and attentive. Crab dip was very good Hubs got the daily catch Pompano with grilled zucchini and broccoli. I had the surf and turf. Both were amazing. Perfect cook on the filet. And this may sound funny but they have great unsweet tea! And the prices and portions were on point. We loved the food at Tranquil Harbour !! We got many starters including ; Crab Dip, Firecracker Shrimp, Kimchi Potstickers. They were all very fresh and delicious. Our table of 4 easily shared them, meaning each came with at least 2 for each person :) Everything on the menu was reasonably priced ! We added on two side salads to our meals for only $3 a piece. The service was good , even though the AC in the front of the restaurant had went out that day. They were very busy but we only waited about 5 minutes to be seats at the dinner rush . They take reservations as well ! We are locals in the area but live closer to Holden beach! We will return to Tranquil Harbour Restaurant. read more

Overall a solid "meh" - 3.5 stars if Yelp would allow half stars. We went on a Monday night, so the place was not overly crowded. The drinks were good but the food was just ok. We had the crab dip to start. There was too much (parmesan?) cheese. The dip tasted more like a canned tuna than crab. Crab cakes were ok but nothing special. A good crab cake would have visible lumps of crab meat. These seemed to be fully blended with the bread filled. They weren't bad, just not very good. We also had the catch of the day - grilled. It was a bit overcooked and dry at the edges. The flavor was ok but could have been better. Our server was nice but seemed to want to push us through dinner, even though the place was not crowded. Portions are large, so if you can get the half portion it's probably enough! The service was fast and friendly, ensuring we had a high chair promptly for our smallest. First time to OKI, and I was told this was a locals favorite. So we tried it. The place is very nice. Gives you that beach restaurant feeling. We had a small wait (so call ahead or plan to wait 30-60). The waitress was very nice and d helpful and the food was delicious. The bourbon salmon was really good. It had the smoked sauce taste but with a very nice sweet (almost maple syrup) taste which I loved. The sweet potato fries were great and the mac and cheese was good. Another in my party had the hot wings. She said they weren't as saucy as she wanted but they were good and she cleaned her plate. The fried mahi surprised my other guest. Usually Mahi is grilled. But it still looked delicious. The service was good but not great. Could Have gotten fill ups a little faster and more often. But we will come back and try again!!! read more

Stopped in around 5pm on Saturday last weekend. Only had to wait 5-10 minutes for a table. My party of 4 enjoyed a variety of entrees from the menu. Our server was attentive and friendly. This crusty, seasoned, old looking, going for the seafood shack interior ambience, seafood and steak restaurant that opened in 2016 is NOT TO BE MISSED for lunch, Why? Let me count the ways... Because our group enjoyed the distinct pleasure of dining on freshly caught Pompano the first time, and on Mahi-Mahi on our second occasion which were both succulent, juicy, and perfectly cooked each time! Now that is really hard to do as I am just not that easy a critic. Our guests had fried flounder, burgers, seafood chowder with a house, Caesar salad, and a Caesar salad with a side of steam shrimp. Each one of these dishes was again, cooked to perfection, each of the two times we dined there. Everyone raved about, and LOVED their food!!! Their service by both Emily, and Hunter (from Raleigh, NC, go ahead and tell him you can guess from were he hails. He will love it) on both occasions was very welcoming, down home, polite, incredibly efficient, and right "on point" both times we dined at Tranquil Harbour. Frankly, I was shocked at the amount of fish in both their local catch on a bun, and the size of their fried flounder along with ten perfect onion rings to boot in their fish basket (local fish of the day) for an extremely, reasonable price! However, when you add the value, pure gastronomic pleasure, and taste bud titillation of dining upon perfectly prepared, fish or beef this restaurant has earned our groups NOT TO BE MISSED seal of approval!!! It was such an incredible dining experience on our first visit, that we did not wait eight days to return and we were richly rewarded, yet again for commitment and want for Tranquil Harbour's fare. You can certainly pay more however, you will not eat any comparable food anywhere, any better prepared, than the food at Tranquil Harbour as it was deliriously delicious! It's survived COVID-19 pandemic and so many restaurants did NOT and is thriving now that we all can get out to eat again. Why only the lunch recommendation? Because we have not eaten there at dinner, YET! But we will, as it has become our group of eight (Family and friends) "go too" seafood restaurant. This small family owned business was incredible! To start, the service is amazing. Our server Beau was a kind fellow and checked on our table often. We started with the crab dip and it had amazing flavor. Extremely rich and cheesy, served with crispy bread slices. My steak was perfectly cooked and the locally caught fish are incredibly fresh. We have been wanting to check out TH for some time. The small frontage is easy to miss but we've heard nothing but good things from out friends. I was surprised to learn that they take reservations so I went ahead and booked a table for two. We arrived on time and we're promptly seated. The hostess and wait staff were all very pleasant, although the latter seemed very hurried. We started off with drinks and the Cheesy Crab Dip and toasted French bread. This app is a favorite of ours and we were not disappointed with there version which was very cheesy. For our mains my wife had the seared scallops with Mac and cheese and broccoli, while I had the special Soft Shell Crabs with slaw and Mac. The food was delicious and we both cleaned our plates. Don't let the parking lot turn you away! This place is so nice on the inside and the food is delicious! Today was the best meal ever at this local establishment. I truly love their chicken pot pie, but they were out. I had the fish Oscar which was pompano today. It was flaky, moist, perfectly cooked. First time to Oak Island and we tried out this little gem. The staff was super friendly and our server Zach was just perfect. He was friendly, knowledgeable and on top of everything without being bothersome. The ambiance is what you'd expect in a beach town - beach themed decor and casual. Food was very good and prices were reasonable. Drinks were yummy too! Fresh vegetable choices and homemade sauces. Scallops were nice and tender, asparagus was delicious. Tranquil Harbour was a good pick tonight - I won't say there were no issues as there were but all before we even sat a table. We did not know to make a call ahead/reservation (our bad) - we were told at minimum 1 hour wait but I will be honest it was almost as if the hostess did not want us to wait for a table. Long story short it was 1 hour and 50 min before we got a table (we don't usually wait but this time of year knew it would be a wait anywhere we went so we browsed Eagles for a while and enjoyed sitting outside.) Once seated (which seemed to be an issue for the hostess as she told us there were only 7 chairs (there were 8 of us) and said for the 8th chair it would be another hour wait - we said the kids could share a seat and when we got to table there were 8 chairs so who knows) Our server, Beau, saved the night - he was so nice and friendly. He was efficient and quick too! The food came out in good timing and was delicious! We had salmon, seared tuna, steak, crab, shrimp cocktail, mac n cheese with crab and 2 kids meals! All the food was delicious! We did agree the cheese in the crab mac n cheese was way too rich and we could not finish it but the regular side of mac n cheese was fabulous! Cost wise for steak and seafood it was reasonable! The average was $25 pp. (the portions were a great size and we all left stuffed!) We definitely will be back!!! Great food but the worst server/bartender/Manager who's name is Kelsey I have ever had!!! In all of my many years of going to restaurants all over the world there is none that compares to this young lady! Just about looked at us, never talked to us, did not ask us any questions like "was there anything else we needed or wanted" and worst of all it was our first time to this place and of course our very last!!! I even told the hostess how rude and awful she was and all she could say was "I know'!! She was lucky she got a $2 tip because that was to much! The food was outstanding with large portions. I got the daily catch which was cooked to perfection. The host was so kind to allow us to have my dog on back patio, and he even made sure that when another family arrived with a dog that we had amble space and separation of both dogs so that all the families could enjoy their meal with their dog family. So sad as this was my husband's and mine favorite restaurant. We came to love the staff as family(especially Faith) and always received the best meals. Yesterday we went for dinner and the steak we ordered came out black and so hard the fork wouldn't even go through not to mention it was inedible so we sent it back. The waiter did offer to bring another one out but we declined only because we like to eat our meal together and waiting wasn't an option. I watched as another waiter went the wrong way with someone's food back to the kitchen and came out later with a new dish for the same guest. Something is amiss!
