Thanks to fellow Yelper Rohan's review of the Oak Creek Public Library, I was made aware of this place and decided to check it out. I'm so glad that I did! The library opened in October 2015, and it still looks spanking new! It's adjoined to the Oak Creek City Hall, or rather both share the same building and parking lot. Perhaps that's why the architecture and design of the library is so sophisticated and modern? Even the garden/ landscaping surrounding the building is unique and elegant. Oak Creek Library has everything a modern-day library is expected to have. There are two floors- the children's area being downstairs, and up the winding staircase, an area catered to the Big Kids, Nerds, Adults, and Others (I check all of those boxes). What makes it my new favorite southeast Milwaukee library is the Quiet Reading area and the study rooms. The Quiet Reading area has several comfy chairs and ottomans, a fireplace, and lights that can be dimmed/adjusted. I'm definitely looking forward to reading by the fireplace in the upcoming colder months. The study rooms to one side are smaller with seating for up to 3-4 individuals. On the other side, the study rooms look more like conference rooms for larger groups. They all have windows with a view, mostly of the developing Drexel Town Center. The chairs are super comfortable, plenty of outlets, individually adjustable lighting and temperature. Reservations can be placed for up to four hours. They seem pretty lax about utilizing a room with out officially reserving it, or staying in the room past the reservation time. I still do it anyway. I like seeing my name on the little electronic screen just outside the door! Oh, and the location (Drexel Square) is great! If you're brain needs fuel and your body needs sustenance, you can walk across the garden/ park/ pretty grass (?) to Belair Cantina or the other new eateries. There's still a ton of construction in that area. Most of the spaces around the building are 2-hour spots and the shared parking lot is a bit cramped. My only suggestion would be for a coffee kiosk to open in the joint library/ city hall lobby during business hours THAT would be stupendous! I mean, amirite?!

    A book train!

Am I allowed to use the WiFi without a library card? I just need a study spot near my home, to do assignments. 🥲

Yes! The WiFi is free. You only need a card to log into the computers. I'd get it a card if you can because they are free

There are so many different things to try. And, they have a Creative room where people can use shared craft supplies, legos, STEM toys, etc. For the sewing class, I do have to bring my own machine, but I see the shelves have rubber stamp and crochet materials; I'm sure there is more but I haven't really taken the time to look through them. It makes me jealous that my local town's library doesn't have nearly as many offerings! I'm really grateful for this library, their inclusiveness, and the plethora of recreational activities they provide for the community.
