DO NOT USE THEM! When you have issues, they completely ignore you. Our property had a broken ice maker with mold inside, the dishwasher did not work properly, all four chair by the pool were broken and clumps of dog hair were stuck on the outside of the HVAC vent. Also black mold was present as well as not use of the elevator (forced to use dangerous spiral staircase). Presented these issues to OIA on the first day of our visit. They sent someone by on Day 2 to look at them and take photos. Never heard back from them!!! read more

Oak Island Accommodations has cameras on their rentals and monitors your activities. Unless you're okay with this, don't rent from them.

We used Oak Island Accommodations for our vacation this summer. We stayed at Oki Dokey. The home was nice with lots of amenities but trash pickup was a problem. When we arrived trash was overflowing. The flies and the stench were nasty. When we called Oak Island Accommodations their solution was to provide another trash can. Cleaning the house needs to includer removing overflowing trash. It's unsanitary and detracted from our vacation experience and impacted our impression of the home. Also it seems negative reviews don't get posted on Oak Island Accommodations website. read more

We stayed at Pelican Crossing in Oak Island, managed by Oak Island Accommodations. Although the downstairs area is more up to date and perfect for children, the upstairs needs serious work. (The kitchen was remodeled and was very well done) The deck is unsafe for children and toddlers (nailheads lifted and lots of splinter potential and there is no awning or shade on the front deck which is expected at an oceanfront property. The bedrooms upstairs are in need of updating (worn furniture and bedding ) as well as the bathroom needs remodeling. (old and toilet ran all the time) I was drawn to the "vintage beachy" the pictures showed, but OIA really needs to establish basic requirements from property owners if they are going to list a property. It would not take much to make this property over the top. I did send in a request for the toilet and dishwasher to be looked at but no one ever called or followed up. I did fill out a survey when prompted from OIA but we will see if it gets posted. Funny how all the reviews on saw on this property were positive. read more

If you're looking to vacation in this area, please look at other vacation rentals. DO NOT USE THIS ONE. We rented a house (Divine Intervention) through them in January 2020. My grandfather was sick (non COVID related), and really wanted to go to the beach one last time, before he couldn't make the trip any longer. COVID wrecked our plans and we didn't think we'd be able to go, then the states starting opening back up. We were concerned about making the trip, and asked about the cleaning procedures. We were assured several times that they are rigorous, and in depth, considering COVID concerns. We arrived to the house to find it dirty. Floors half-assed swept. Dirty dishes in dishwasher. Bag of dirty sheets. Dirty comforters thrown in closets. The door frame to the master bedroom is loose like it's coming out of the wall. Seeing as we were already exposed to the previous renters, we took it upon ourselves to clean it to limit my grandfather's exposure to anyone else or having to have him sit in the damn heat (he's on oxygen, this isn't an option), while someone who should've cleaned it right the first time, came back out to clean it right a second time. We called after our vacation and spoke with Kelsey. She pretty much wrote it off, because we didn't give them a chance to come back in and clean it. With COVID still being a concern, it was a little late to have someone come in and clean it again. It should've been done right the FIRST time. We were already exposed. Definitely will NOT be using them ever again, and I'll be sharing this experience with everyone I know. It would've been tolerable had COVID not been a concern. This is unacceptable. read more

I have been renting through OIA for a long time, and I have found them to be very accommodating, friendly, and very business-like. They sometimes are a little slow in fixing problems, but they rent a lot of places, so I try to be very understanding. After all, I'm not the only renter they are dealing with. Also, there have been a couple of times the place has not been cleaned, but that is the cleaning company's fault. My only downside is the fact that the prices are going up, and to the point that I may not be able to take my family down too much longer, but I don't know who sets the prices. What is Oak Island Accomidations (OIA for the rest of this review) like? Theives. Inhospitable. Vacation destruction. I am rarely this harsh with reviews but I've never had an experience this bad. Here's what happened. First day: Bottom floor floods. The two parties that were going to stay down there had to book a hotel. Called OIA, they said they would help us. Second day: OIA sent a guy to take a look and he said a pipe broke and he couldn't fix it. Third day: OIA said they would find us a new place. They didn't that day. Fourth day: the smell from all the water was horrendous. They turned off our water to prevent more flooding which meant no toilets and no drinking water. By 11pm that night someone finally came over and told us they found a place and that we would have to move our stuff the next day. Fifth day: spent 7am to 3pm moving all of our stuff over. Sixth day: Nice new place, no flooding. Seventh day: moved out. We paid nearly $4000 for a vacation that was ruined. Did they pay for our friends that were forced into a hotel? No. Did they reimburse us for having us to waste our valuable vacation time moving all of our belongings? No. Did they compensate us at all for having to live like animals without working toilets? No. This place saw it fit to give us the worst vacation experience of my life and then do absolutely nothing to reimburse us or try to make this horrible experience any better. DO NOT RENT FROM OAK ISLAND ACCOMMODATIONS!!! The house that we rented had so many problems, I almost don't know where to being. But, to start, the air conditioner was total crap. We called to request service, and for four days they promised that a technician would arrive to fix it, but they never showed up. The instructions that came with the house said that they blinds had to be shut, ceiling fans off, and doors to the bedrooms closed. So, we did all of that and the temperature rose steadily into the high 80's every day. It would start to cool back down around 2a.m. The sheets and bedding were so old, I didn't want to get anywhere near them. The shower door completely fell off, and into the shower, while I was in it. The vacuum had such a nasty smell that you couldn't run it. And after we told management about all of these issues, their response was to offer us a $100 discount on our next stay in this specific cabin. As if we would ever return! There is no customer service, and when we told the manager that we'd like him to come over to look at the problems, he asked us if we'd have a beer ready for him. Totally unprofessional, and the whole situation really put a damper on our stay at the beach. Do not rent from this company, and most especially, do not stay in "Cabana Boy". Good location, crappy old yucky house. read more

Wish I would have read these reviews before renting from Oak Island Accommodations. We rented Dolphin Run on the ICW. Tried leaving a negative review on the OIA Rentals website and I am assuming they monitor it so negative reviews dont get posted. So here is the review I tried leaving on that site. The Bad.... 1. They sent emails prior to us arriving about how important it was for you to not show up before 4 to give the cleaning team time to take additional steps to disinfect. The place was extra dirty when we arrived. It looked like the only thing the cleaning team did was replace the linens. 2. We noticed a lot of waterbugs (Roaches) dead on the outside concrete which made me believe that since they were dead the extermination techniques must have been working. Wrong,  we continually killed roaches and spiders throughout our stay. 3. Do not send emails to the OIARentals@gmail.com for complaints; it is a marketing email address and your complaint will never be heard. 4. The OIA Booking site says outside shower (hot and Cold) which would be great from a day at the beach or out on the intercoastal but I did not see the shower. There was a Hose (cold Water). 5. The OIA booking says "Hitch up your boat and bring it with you! Tie up to the dock and enjoy the deep water of the ICW  leading to Lockwood or the Historic Southport waterfront." Where??? The owner does not want you using the boat lift (You will find this out after booking the reservation). The dock is at least 5 feet above water at high tide and a good 10 feet at low tide. There is however a public boat launch at Yacht drive and 55th Street. 6. There are no storage areas. We came with extra things (Bikes, Kayaks, Paddle Boards, Beach things etc..) so we could enjoy everything Oak Island has to offer and had nowhere to store these when not in use. I didn't want to leave my expensive bikes out in the salty air or exposed to the elements when not in use. 7. You do not have access to the Elevator so if you have a lot of stuff plan on many trips up the stairs. 8. I could not find Basic cable. I was able to use my streaming services. (If you have spectrum you will not get all of your channels since you are not on your spectrum internet) 9. Our last night there one of the smoke detectors was giving us the low battery warning beep all night. 10. The guest bathroom shower was really slow to drain. The kids were standing in ankle deep water by the time they finished the shower. When I unscrewed the drain it was full of hair. (I would think the this is something the cleaning team would have noticed if properly cleaned as the tub would have filled up during cleaning) The Good...... 1. Location Location Location... This house is in a low traffic area so you get the quiet and peaceful noise of the ICW. 2. The house does have a great area to park your cars or boat to keep covered. 3. This end of Yacht drive does not have a lot of traffic so getting an early morning or late afternoon run/ride in is pleasant. 4. The dock is a great place to bring your fishing pole or your crab pot. With all the bad things we had an awesome vacation and are def looking to book on Oak Island again. Here are a few extra things to keep in mind when booking on Oak island. 1. Location Location Location.. Think of how you want to spend your time on vacation. If it is on the beach then get a place close to the beach. Even though the island is small, parking can be difficult during the summer. 2. Think of where you want to be. From about 40th St to Country Club Drive is the majority of Shopping and dining areas. I believe it is where most of the public beach access are as well.  The further W you go the quieter it gets. Also from SE 40th St to Middleton ave there is no direct beach access to if you are staying in between those roads you have to either go E to 40th St or W to Middleton to get to the beach. 3. Bring your water shoes if you plan on using the intercoastal to Kayak. During low tide you have to walk through the grassy area to get to the water and it has sharp oyster clusters embedded in the ground. If you have an issue do not send OIA Rentals an email. Make sure you call in and they will address your issue. I believe our biggest complaint was the cleanliness of the place when we arrived. OIA Rentals said they would have sent the cleaning team back out if we had notified them upon arrival. In all reality who wants the cleaning team to come back out and fix what should have already been completed. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM OAK ISLAND ACCOMMODATIONS!!!   We rented a house called Turtle Soup. We received an email 2-weeks prior to our vacation stating the house was not ready and they would offer us another week at the same price. Really! 2-weeks prior to vacation and 3-families have to change their vacation! When I called, they were very rude and not helpful at all. I requested a refund so I could find another house. I'm still fighting to get my refund. I am very fortunate I had the money to book another house without receiving a refund so I did not let it impact my vacation. However, if I do not receive my money soon, I will have to take legal action. Why should I have to take legal action to get a refund when they cancelled on me? I wish I had read the reviews before booking my rental. read more

We are locals but did a long term rental while renovating. My 86 year old mother was living in the rental and we popped in on weekends. Oak Island Accomodations staff treated my mother very poorly. They broke a promise to her and were rude and disrespectful. There are other rental companies on our beautiful beach. Try checking them out so you don't visit Oak Island and leave thinking everyone here acts like these people. read more

Cant believe Im the only one posting a good review. The reservation process was a breeze, the woman at the desk was polite and friendly. The house (Ye old salt and pepper) was gorgeous and clean (small trash can in kitchen had trash in it), half way through the vacation I asked to book for 2017. Im hoping there will be no problems because of the hurricanes from this summer. Booked early in May for Leeward Mark on east beach drive. Easy online reservations and ample instructions and FYI's. Rec several emails the days leading up to our stay. Check-in was easy- just went by the office and picked up my "packet" with instructions to using the keyless entry. Arrived at our house and it was so close to the beach i was amazed! "Leeward Mark". We had no front lawn we had a dune!!! YAY. The home was clean and well maintained and nicely but subtly decorated. All the amenities we needed and more. Free wi-fi but i couldnt find the password. I emailed the company the next day as i assumed they were closed on sunday. My impatient daughter called them when she arrived for the wifi password. It was supposed to be on the fridge but presumably had gotten misplaced. She immediately gave us the password and asked how everything was going and was very nice and friendly. I have no complaints. The house is not a brand new construction and has the normal wear and tear but it was perfect for us and it was clean! The OIA staff made booking, check in and check out a breeze. I will use them again in the future! THe stay on Oak Island? wow, there are no words. I felt almost like we had a private beach the entire time. By 730 every night you DID have a private beach. And prior to 7am you did as well. I loved making the first footprints in the sand every morning and the last ones every night. Clean beach, friendly neighbors when you see them and so much to do within a 5 minute drive! Lovely well hidden treasure! read more

WORST customer service we've experienced in our 30 years of renting vacation homes! The house we rented, "Point of View," was filthy, uncleaned, and infested with FLEAS (despite being a "no pets" property). Their solution was to send a guy over with a can of flea spray. We explained that this was not an option for us, as we have a baby and two other young children, one with chemical sensitivities. We asked for a different house, or a refund of the remainder of our week, and they adamantly refused. The manager we spoke with, Joel, was incredibly rude and condescending. We thankfully found another home to rent from Better Beach Rentals for the remainder of our trip, and we are disputing the charges from OIA with our credit card company. We've had numerous issues with other OIA homes in the past, but kept giving them second chances. Never again! read more

I agree with other posters. Untruthful advertising. So many problems with the property, and PM and maintenance guys of little help. Mouse trap on kitchen counter, oven that does not heat, dryer that does not heat, hole in bathroom wall from what looked like a water leak, BBQ grill a rusted out hibachi grill, deck rockers (3) broken and rotted, front door could not be used because door knob would not open (maintenance told me not life threatening so use back door), cable TV kept going out, and blinds broken (at least they replaced some of these for privacy sake.) I got a $75 gift certificate and not much else except was told by PM that they could not fix unless owner agreed. WTF?! read more

The unit we rented was great but Oak Island Accommodations, NOT SO MUCH! This so called 'professional' agency is a joke!! I will never use this agency again and I would recommend anyone thinking of using them, look elsewhere!!!
