The woman who checked us in at 3pm said they were waiting on the linen service to change the sheets and remove the old / dirty ones. But, they let us in the unit at 3pm. At 7:30, I called because the dirty linens were still on the beds (I have pictures). No one was able to come handle the service. So, I got the extreme pleasure of 1) handle strangers dirty linens and put them into garbage bags (7 beds!!). 2) travel to the rental office and pick up the clean linens, 3) make all seven beds by myself. That when I PAID for a service to have that done. This isn't our first rodeo. We travel all the time and we are great guests. I understand that mistakes happen. All the customer service representatives were lovely and very apologetic. They just had no power to improve the outcome. It's the management team who doesn't care about the customer experience. After several phone calls, no one from management called to follow up or offer to make it better. I had to touch a strangers' dirty laundry!!! GROSS!!!

The long and short of the story, is we had a family matter that elicited the need to change houses the week before our scheduled stay at another home through Stellar. THE DAY BEFORE we were supposed to check in, Jaime worked with the golf cart rental company, the beach rental company, and the homeowners to switch all of our reservations. The home was simply flawless, but what will make me a forever Stellar client, was Jaime Green and the business that Stellar runs. It must have changed ownership and rental company management several times. The updates done recently are really nice; it's much more modern and clean-feeling now. Unit is very small. Perfect for retired couple like us. Would be cramped with any more than 2 people. It's right on beach with modern deck and shared gazebo. Unit was very clean. Modern kitchen. Pots and pans. Dishwasher. Microwave. A coffeemaker/ Keurig combo you can use either. HVAC worked great! Of course no washer/dryer there is just not enough room. And bathroom is small, too. But no issues with unit at all and we're picky! We would have appreciated an option to include sheets and towels. Bringing our own is a hassle. In years past they were included. But biggest issue is not including any paper products as in paper towels or toilet paper. That's ridiculous. For less than $15 you can stock unit with 12 rolls of quality TP and 3 rolls of quality paper towels. if we don't bring any, and arrive late in evening and don't have time to goto store first or don't bring them with us, we don't have any TP or paper products that night. Heck for $15 you can include a pack of napkins, too. We're spending $1,500+ on a 7 day rental - including TP, paper towels, and napkins isn't too much to ask.

The bathrooms looked original to the age of the house, one had a bath & the other a very small shower, the sink wall plug in that bathroom did not work, any appliance had to be plugged in at the bedroom.....on a brighter note, the kitchen was well equipped and had everything you might need for your cooking experience

Do not rent Oak Island Beach Villa unit 1408…read more Seasoned user of VRBO and Airbnb with bookings from Long Beach CA, Nantucket, Prague, Paris, New Orleans, Cape Cod... tallied 16 over the past 20 years. I also rented out my lake house 6 weeks a year for a decade. I've never rented a place (this one through Margaret Rudd, Oak Island NC) this bad. There were several that were less money, either ocean front or ocean view- I took the more expensive one thinking it has to be great... wrong. Upon inspecting what I needed to cook one breakfast and one dinner for 30, almost all staying in the village, I opened the first drawer and tossed the dirty egg-caked spatula into the sink. Cabinet by cabinet, assessing what I need, it became quite apparent there was nothing there but pots, pans and silverware. This place is worn out my friends. What it has: a nice view, decent internet and a newer small stack washer/dryer. What it DOES NOT HAVE: A coffee filter, A paper towel, A drop of dish soap to clean the dirty spatula, A salt shaker, A pepper shaker, A drop of cleaning spray for the counter, A napkin, A single thing to cook with (spice, cooking oil, condiments etc), A washer pod, A mini hotel soap bar (18 cents btw), A working slider to the master bedroom balcony -you get the point. It's as if the place is stripped bare after every rental and leftovers sold at a flea market once a month. Our group had 5 other rentals within the village and I asked to take a quick walkthrough of each- to my dismay, they were at least lightly stocked with some basics if not fully stocked. Keurig pods, cleaning products, paper towels, toilet paper, cooking supplies like salt, pepper, spices, cooking oil etc. Was I expected to go buy any and all basic items for the week only to hop back on a plane and leave it all there? Not a chance - I gave it all away versus having the next renters think the owners or MR gives a crap about the tenants. Two bars hotel soap 36 cents, coffee filters 4 cents per x7, a small dish soap $2.50, a cheap counter cleaner $3.50, a washer pod 43 cents, a roll of paper towels 75 cents, plastic salt and pepper shaker $1.50 blah blah blah. At $2,600 a week, the owners need not extract every damn nickel from this rental. Seriously, $3.00 per rental period would more than cover some basics and a few bucks for some cheap beach towels. After looking at the range hood, the rusty oven and the microwave, I canceled making any food in this condo as I had promised. Is the thought "vintage", "quaint", "throwback" or "retro"? C'mon, I looked up the serial number on the microwave- 1984 Happy Birthday, you are 40! And rusty, gross and lacking a carousel of course. Do a search how long microwave ovens should be used for- 10 years. Old rusty mirrors in bathrooms, an old 10 foot junked curtain support rod sticking out from under the couch, a non-working door to the master bedroom ocean view patio, weather strip coming off front door, mangled deteriorating rugs- can go on forever -see photos. In summary, I've been a landlord to a rental property and deep in renting houses, condos and apartments. I've seen several other units in the village, all less expensive and they at least have some basics if not ready to fully accommodate renters. Oh, beach front rental with NO beach chairs, NO beach towels, NO cooler - nada- nothing to accommodate a renter at this price point. Second Street in Ocean Isle Beach…read more We've been here for our vacation, paying well over $2,000 for the week, and I've now been stung SEVEN times by wasps/hornets on the property. I've personally removed two nests myself, and even after the property management company sent pest control out, I was stung again. I understand that insects are part of coastal living, but being stung seven times during a single vacation is beyond ridiculous. A rental property should be properly inspected and treated before guests arrive, especially for the first renters of the season. What frustrates me most is that this issue has continued despite it being reported and despite pest control already visiting the property. At some point, "we sent someone out" stops being a solution when guests are still getting stung. A vacation is supposed to be relaxing. Instead, I've spent the week watching every corner of the house, deck, and outdoor area wondering where the next nest is hiding. Extremely disappointed with how this has been handled.

Bermuda Trace 1. Get a tetanus shot before your vacation…read more The walkway is in horrid condition with missing rails, rotten boards and rusty nail pops. Our son was injured during our trip and spent an afternoon getting a tetanus booster. 2. Bring your own kitchen appliances. Most of the ones in the house are not fully functional. 3. Prepare to spend the first day cleaning. The house is cluttered and the kitchen dishes, silverware, cups, etc. were not clean upon arrival. The bathrooms had mold around the vents, shower walls and faucet handles. 4. Schedule an appointment with your chiropractor for after the vacation since the beds are way too soft. 5. Plan on spending a day of your vacation with maintenance. When we arrived the house had a water leak and we had to ask to have the rusted out grill replaced. 6. We had 8 guests at most on our trip. The house says it can hold 16 but I can't imagine having more than 10. 7. Bring a cooler. There is only one refrigerator which had a broken shelf during our visit. While Sloane did send out a plumber and maintenance the day after our arrival I'm still surprised they would be willing to manage this property in its current condition. The property has a lot of potential (the other side of the duplex is beautiful) but in its current state I would definitely find somewhere else to stay.
