This is a very nice big city hospital that can handle just about every problem one might have. We…read morewere scheduled for a minor surgical procedure and were treated very well from start to finish. From the attached enclosed multi-story parking lot, to the registration and wait times for a scheduled procedure, and the nursing staff we encountered ... this was a seamless experience. Our surgical procedure was scheduled, so we did not visit the emergency room or any of the other resources available at Advocate Christ Medical Center ... but as a Level I trauma center with almost 800 beds, Advocate Christ can do it all. This used to be simply Christ Hospital, but it is now part of the Advocate Health system ... an affiliation of 11 hospitals and some 200 satellite facilities. If you need hospital care, Advocate Christ Medical Center is a great alternative. Recommended.

Don't just walk away but run from this place. Have very bad experience at the check in at Healthway…read moreDr. Docs are underpaid and bottom dwellers who stick around because they can't find employment elsewhere. Dr. Low is an interventional cardiologist who has no bed-side manners or empathy and only focussed on doing procedures to generate revenue even though she doesn't have the requisite skills to explain to patients and their care takers or the skill to handle complicated procedures. Her venous backflow procedure for my wife was complete failure with absolutely no improvement at all.

Birthing trauma…read more Christ, the labor and delivery floor was the worst experience ever. I delivered Fallon naturally in the ER. After she was born, I was wheeled up to labor and delivery to deliver the placenta. Since it all happened so fast, I wasn't registered into the system and was logged in as Jane Doe. They refused to allow Tay to find me and Fallon, so for about an hour, he sat in the waiting room, clueless to the fact that Fallon had been born and we were briefly separated. When I was finally able to reach him, he was being escorted by the police because, while he was complaining to the receptionist about her negligence, she had called the police. After I delivered the placenta, I didn't stop bleeding, and I had a tear. The doctor or resident asked if they could just dive in and check. I asked her if I could have pain medication first before any extra examinations were done. She told me that before I could get any medication, they needed to collect my urine through a catheter. I told her they could do that, but I needed pain medication first. She insisted that no, they needed to test my urine first. I said, "You mean to tell me I just pushed out a 7.7-pound baby and then a placenta naturally, and I can't get a Tylenol or ibuprofen?" She replied no, they needed to make sure there were no drugs in my system, and asked if I was declining a drug test. At that moment, I mentally noted that I wasn't safe and had to answer wisely. I told her, "No, I'm not declining a drug test; I'm asking for pain management first." They then gave me something through the IV and took my urine. Now it was time to repair the tear. All they were offering me was lidocaine spray. I had a third-degree tear with Farrah and knew the procedure. I asked for another opinion. The nurse told me she didn't recommend any other options because she wanted me up and walking within two hours. I asked again for a second opinion, and she told me there were no other smart options. I said to her, "I don't want you as my nurse. I'm not asking what you would do; I'm telling you what I want for my comfort." Ultimately, I got the epidural so they could stitch me up. About an hour later, I was tiptoeing to the bathroom. They cleared me to go to mother and baby. As the tech came in to wheel me upstairs, the nurse told her that I didn't need a wheelchair and could walk. The tech disregarded her and proceeded to wheel me upstairs. My midwife, Julie, messaged me to check in, and after I explained everything to her, she told me to request the charge nurse. After speaking with the nurse, the level of care I received changed. The next day, patient care called, and I filed a formal complaint. After filing the complaint, the managers from both floors came to talk to me. After explaining everything that happened and how I was not given adequate treatment because I was just a Black Jane Doe to them, they discussed what they would do to ensure nobody else felt that way. They offered me a role as a patient advocate, someone who will come sit and help speak up for and advocate for Black mothers and Black people in general. It's unfortunate that such a beautiful and quick birth had moments of trauma because people only saw me for the color of my skin. All I kept repeating to the mangers was THIS IS WHY BLACK MOTHERS DIE AT A HIGHER RATE. God had a plan for me that was much different than the plan I had for myself. I survived ensure no other mother goes through that!
