Ok so I'm a new to San Diego and started remodeling my house when this guy pull up with his truck to work on the neighbor's house. I asked him if he could;d look at my place Since he was there, he came in I had some real old wood work that needed a lot of attention and he said he could re-lacquer all the wood work. David Katz and his family are incredible. Anyone who has ever delved into trying to hire a contractor to do anything knows it is unbelievably frustrating. I had a ton of family coming into town on the 20th of September, and only a few weeks to see about getting my kitchen cabinets refinished (small kitchen, btw). I went to a kitchen remodel center on Miramar Rd. (which shall remain nameless) who jerked me around for a week just to get me an estimate. And when I reminded them of the deadline of the 20th (for the fourth time!), was told they couldn't meet that deadline. I was resigned to the fact that there was no way to get the kitchen redone in a two week span, as small as the kitchen is. And then I got a call out of the blue from David who got wind of my project. He came over that same day with his wife, took measurements, walked me through what would be done, including new doors, drawers and hardware, plus refinishing the existing box. He and his wife both have a really fantastic eye, and are creative. I told him of the deadline and he said "if only you had come to me a week earlier". He quoted me a price on the spot and then told me he would let me know for sure the next day if he could get the job done. I did not get my hopes up. He called the next day and said he would make it happen. It is surprising how many contractors don't have this same kind of spirit and can-do attitude. I was elated and really excited based on his ideas from the day before. Fast forward to a fantastic job well done. David finished a day earlier than he quoted, custom built me all new doors and drawers, and refinished and painted the rest. It was an amazing blur of activity and work, but he and his team got the job done and I couldn't be happier. My kitchen feels brand-new and I have had so many compliments on the work done. If you like getting jerked around, go call some places on Miramar Rd. If you want a true professional, with a great attitude and work ethic, not to mention a real craftsman, you found your guy in David Katz! read more

Our experience with David Katz was fine until we discovered the desk and night stands he painted had not dried and cured properly. We put lamps on the furniture, and the day after he delivered we found ring marks on all surfaces. We called David to advise him of the situation, and he mentioned he was busy with appointments to call in a week. We followed his request just wound up leaving messages at least three times with no return phone calls. It is very frustrating to deal with someone who you feel is a responsible business individual only to get "BLOWN-OFF" after you discover a problem. He could have eliminated our problem by advising us "NOT" to put anything on the surface for a few days, but he had "never experienced this problem". This is not the way to get recommendations for future dealings. read more

In response to the claim that I wanted someone's order cancelled so that I could have priority this is untrue. I requested they give me a call if the set they had was going to be available when the shipment came in. The person on the phone said there were no guarantees unless I paid upfront. I did not feel comfortable paying upfront so I asked the person on the phone to call me when the set was available. He stated the shipment would arrive on Monday and to call back then, but he could not guarantee I would receive a furniture set unless I (again) paid upfront. I called on Monday first thing in the morning (8 a.m.) he said they were sold out. Hmmmm, you just opened your doors and you are already sold out? If there is such a high demand, why are you not ordering more than the demand? Hmmm... He re-stated that I had to pay upfront in order to guarantee a furniture set. I was still not comfortable doing this, so I waited and called again on the following Monday for the next two weeks. Hmmm, every week they were "sold out" the minute the doors opened, every week the person insisted I pay upfront. Every week I insisted I was not comfortably paying for something that I was unsure I would ever receive. Finally, after three or four weeks I called on Monday and he had a set available. I drove the 45 minutes to the office and they were just taking the sets off of the truck. He took my money, I took my patio furniture and he helped me to place it in the truck. I ask consumers reading my review this question: How comfortable would you be paying upfront for a product that you still had not seen in person, had never been to the actual store, and could not get even a glimpse of the floor model if you showed up at their front door? Me? I was not comfortable. If this were my company, I would have ordered more product because of the high demand. I would have a floor model that the customer could sit on, touch, and examine before they paid upfront. In essence, I would have supply that equaled or exceeded my customer's demand. read more

I just happen to be in Chula Vista visiting and came across this furniture store. I asked for prices on a custom made living room wall unit. Price was very reasonable and affordable. I ordered in new color they had in the store (that I fell in love with) and would match my decor I already had (Earth tones). The unit was made in one (1) week. The only concern I had was I live in Los Angeles, they assured me that was not an issue. They delivered the very large unit (3 big pieces), assembled everything themselves. Made sure everything fit perfectly. The workers who installed were very polite, fast and efficient. They kept the area they worked on very clean. Cleaned and polished the furniture. I had a few friends over that weekend, and they fell,in LOVE with our unit. I will MOST definitely be returning for another unit for my upstairs master bedroom. Be Aware for your Safety and Property Damage! David Katz started off my job as a nice family guy, even bringing his wife to the job sites to make you feel comfortable. Very misleading because he is NOT a nice family guy. He is aggressive and confrontational. He became combative with my boyfriend in the midst of discussing a 3 month old problem caused by his crew. He came to my home and began cursing and yelling at my boyfriend after the first 5 minutes of his arrival. He got so aggressive and angry to the point that he put up his fists asking for a fight and calling him names while standing in my driveway with my children in my home. This was beyond scary and unprofessional. NOT what a business man or a nice guy would even think of doing. He is a Street THUG and has no business working with the public going into peoples homes with a temper like his. Luckily I had a representative from my concrete company who witnessed the whole thing and was just as shocked as we were to his crazy behavior. Don't make the same mistake I made. I did not do a background check on him or look up his contractors license. Which I found out after the fact that he does NOT have one. David & Oak Outlet Plus built us our dream kitchen. It's a large shaker white kitchen with a massive two-tone custom island, we could not be more thrilled with the outcome and the entire process. From the start David was easy and enjoyable to work with as he was hands on and helped us through the design process all the way to installation. He was open to any and all ideas and only offered solutions and guidance throughout. He was also flexible as we made a handful of late changes to design and layout. OOP was always on schedule and installed the entire kitchen within a day and even came back the next day to do any touchups if needed. They spray twice, before installation and after.. This really shows in the quality of the paint job. The cabinets are beautifal and strong with the latest components you should expect in a modern kitchen. David is a class act! He was SUPER easy to work with, he kept me updated on delivery time with texts and he charged me a more-than-fair price. I bought a 78 inch table with 8 chairs as well as a 4 piece sectional couch with a table after looking at samples in his shop. He spent time helping me decide the configuration of my outdoor sectional couch, even allowing me to move pieces around in the shop so I could see what it looked like. At my request, he brought an umbrella to the delivery for me to try with my table. I didn't end up buying it because I didn't love the color, but I appreciated his willingness to bring it so I could see what it looked like with the table. I loved the furniture so much, I quickly placed a second order to make my couch even larger--2 more sections and an ottoman. He kept his word on delivery time and price, and I always felt like he was giving me a fair deal. Contrary to many companies, he communicated his delivery ETA so I didn't have to waste a day waiting for the truck--he made the deliveries himself! He clearly works hard and deserves the good business he garners. I recommend this company to all my friends--I would buy from them again in a heartbeat! read more

It's unusual today to find someone who is willing to make something to a buyer's specifications for a fair price but I'm pleased to say that Oak Outlet Plus is just such a place. I searched online and in stores for a new oak filing cabinet. They turned out to be very costly. Even the cabinets made of press board that I would have to assemble myself cost more than I was willing to pay and more than Oak Outlet Plus charged me for real oak. I walked into Oak Outlet Plus and was told that if I could send a picture to them of what I wanted and the size specifications that they would give me a quote. I sent the picture and the size specs and was very please to hear back right away. I was even more surprised when their price was almost half of the other prices I'd seen. I was told it would take about two weeks to be ready. I believe it took even less time than that. I loved the delivery charge. Oak Outlet Plus is located in Chula Vista and I live in El Cajon. They only charge me $50 and had to carry it up a flight of stairs. They are efficient, friendly and make well built products. I plan to recommend them to my friends. read more

AVOID this place like the plague! It started off well with the owner promising to do this and that for us. He was extremely helpful and friendly during the consultation, then after we signed the agreement, we basically never saw or heard from him anymore. The custom design furniture came out ill fitted, some of our drwawers can't open all the way, some pieces are too small while others are too big. Everytime we called to get him to come out to fix it, we always had to leave a message. So instead of coming out to fix things himself, he always sent his teenage sons to come out and fix things. The owner is a coward, indecent human being, poor business man, and god awful carpenter. Save yourself the misery and take your business somewhere else. P.S., don't fall for his good guy/family man scheme. He has pictures of his family all over the store, but its all just a facade. Sorry to say I fell for it. read more

I cannot say enough about David Katz and his son, David. I had my cabinets refinished and renovated my entire kitchen. David helped me with everything. David actually functioned as my unofficial general contractor. He was always available and went above and beyond to help me with coordinating the granite and backsplash installers. He didn't have to help me with that at all. David Jr. has also been awesome. I actually met him first when we changed all the hinges in our kitchen when we purchased our home two years ago. I have three children, two of whom are boys, who have destroyed two heavy duty hinges and now a third. David Jr. came to my home on both occasions to replace the hinges and even had a great idea of putting three hinges on the cabinet door that they kept breaking because he knows how rough my boys are. I would give Oak Outlet Plus TEN STARS. Both Davids are professional, friendly, and help you every step of the way. I don't think you can beat their prices either. read more

After all these years I still had a tube screen TV in my living room. Why? My oak entertainment center only had a cubby hold large enough for my 27" tube TV which translated to a 24" flat screen TV - too small for my living room. I finally decided to do something about it and stumbled across Oak Outlet Plus. I showed David a picture of my existing entertainment center and explained to him that I was looking for a new oak entertainment center. David was familiar with the piece and countered by suggesting I just reconfigure my existing entertainment center rather than buy a new one. He drew a diagram of what he was thinking and I thought it was a great idea! We made some additional changes and, in the end, we removed a shelf, removed a center wall, moved a shelf, and added a shelf for components. He matched the colors perfectly and it looks great! It was significantly cheaper than buying a new entertainment center and I was certain that the piece matched all my other pieces which I had bought over 25 years ago at a place, coincidentally, where David had worked prior to opening Oak Outlet Plus. It is entirely possible that David has had a hand in all the oak furniture in my living room; he certainly immediately recognized the design when he was at my house. I am very pleased with Oak Outlet Plus, enjoyed working with David, and give my highest recommendation. read more

We used David for the first time after a referral....our Varnished Maple cabinets after 15 years became a mess. They needed some TLC and fast. We called Oak Outlet Plus and David came out in a day and gave us more than a fair price to re sand and varnish all my cabinets...And there were a lot of them. He took everything that was not attached back to his workshop and then came back and did the cabinets that could not be removed. They came out GREAT! I have before and after photos that I will post as soon as I get all the hardware back on them. Everything was done in a timely fashion unlike some companies that take forever. I will not hesitate to refer him out to my friends. I will not make the same mistake again letting them go so long before getting them refinished....I hope David is still in business when the time comes , he will be the one I call. read more

So David claims that he has his own factory and manufactures custom cabinets. After a few meetings with him, my husband and I decided to give him the job. He comes off as the nice guy and keeps making all sorts of promises, he claims that all other shops offer only 1 year warranty and I offer 5 years, makes it sound great... It turns out he subcontracts the jobs out. The subcontractor he hired to do our job was a total mess had no clue what he was doing, he claimed he is going through personal problems.... finally the job was finished and I told David if anything arises from the quality of these cabinets I expect him to stand behind it and he assured me he will. I have warped cabinet doors along with a few minor problems. He had assured me if any problem arises he will come and fix them it has been over 8 months and I have not been able to get these problems fixed. The worst part is that no other cabinet maker wants to fix the problems. So bottom line is his warranty is worth NOTHING. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HIM. read more
