Worse service ever. Not only did it take them over 10 minutes for them to give us menus and get our drinks. If it were busy I get it but when there is only 2 tables in the restaurant come on. Yet when the men in suits walk in they waited not even a minute and had thier menus at the table. I hadn't even finished my food when she was asking if we wanted the tab already. I should have asked if she was kicking us out already. My husband felt like we were being judged and treated like we didnt have money. Then when she brings us our change she is standing there waiting for the tip. I am a server myself and never treat guest based on how they are dressed and much less wait for a tip. read more

This is a review of my experience at Oak on South 10th on 12-4-25 at 6:00PM. Honestly, there isn't much to review. Staff didn't even acknowledge me or take my order in the 20 minutes I was there waiting at the bar. The place wasn't busy, there were maybe 3 other pairs of people at the bar and 2 tables taken up. It was 6 PM on a Thursday so the place was close to empty. The bartender was too busy talking to the barback and didn't even take my order. In that time, he checked on other customers at the bar then returned to his conversation with his coworker. It's never good for a bartender to do the rounds and ignore a client that hasn't yet been served ESPECIALLY on a slow night. This type of treatment can make a client feel profiled or discriminated against. Nothing else to say about this, never going back and I'll gladly recommend other places to people looking for a GOOD bar in McAllen. read more

The service was super slow and we went on a Sunday night. The food wasn't great at all, we asked for chips and a side of guacamole and they said they couldn't give it to us. Mind you we spent nearly $500 on drinks while there and couldn't get a Seidel of guacamole we were willing to pay for. Even though they had guacamole on their menu in other food entrees. The tostadas were pretty bland. The cucumber margaritas were good. However the mango margarita was a miss. Brunch time was delightful! Delicious food, fun ambiance, clean place good service and music just what was needed to end my weekend in Mc Allen. I have no pictures but the pozole well season so tasty and a huge portion. I had the combo two barbacoa tacos and the pozole both so good, garnished with cilantro, cebolla, lemon and cabbage. The mimosa tower and the mini pancakes were my dessert !! There was some dancing and After a very satisfying breakfast we had a tequila, this a Mexican tradition to have it as a digestive not as a shot ! A nice surprise was that it was served with both lemon and oranges slides also very traditional in Mexican Restaurants ! So while in Mc Allen it's a must you go and visit ! read more

First time here! First off, when you hear the name Oak, I bet you think of BBQ. Well I thought so too! But it's just a bar and grill that has some really great prices! I showed up on Wednesday as I heard about 50 cent wings. I am a sucker for a good wing deal so thought I would see if it's worth my change. First off when I showed up there was only 2 other people in the building. Wasn't looking good. Wings do require a drink purchase so I opted for some soda. Less than 10 mins went by and wings were brought out. I opted for the buffalo lemon pepper and the garlic parm. The wings were good sized! Definitely had a great aroma and look too. Taste was spot on. Both were crunchy and had good flavor to it. Ranch was good too. They sadly said they don't make blue cheese. Overall, very good! I'll be back next Wednesday for sure! What really interested me was the happy hour specials. They have drafts for $2! Pitchers for $5?! Shots for $3 and up. I couldn't visit Texas and not get a waffle the shape of Texas!!! Not only was this super cool but I'm not a fan of waffles and I want this every day for breakfast. Will definitely not be visiting this establishment anytime soon due to how they treat their visitors with disabilities. I went to eat my birthday dinner Saturday and happened to have my trained service dog. He was wearing a very visible vest that identified him as a service animal only to have a full on interrogation thrown at me by a member of their staff. I explained he was a fully trained service animal that aided with my disability but he basically called me a liar and went above and beyond to make me uncomfortable. I held my ground and he ended up printing out some random sheet to which I replied again with the rights we have under the ADA. This review refers to the Weslaco location. We have been several times since its opening and always had a great time. Great food, great service, pleasant atmosphere. The same was true tonight UNTIL we ordered 4 double shots of Irish cream. Well, we aren't stupid. There was barely, barely, a shot per glass. We complained to the waitress and she took our complaints to the bartender. He denied they were short. We were charged $14 per drink for 4 drinks. I doubt there was 3 shots total!! $56 !! Fantastic brunch and food overall. Great service and friendly staff and management. Our bartender J has done a great job every time we've been and the manager is always very attentive, she does a great job running a busy spot. The chef is awesome. Wings are super legit. The shrimp aguachile is completely amazing, I was really surprised a bar could churn out such fresh aguachile!! A surprise favorite no doubt. The busted tacos are killer, their green sauce is amazing, the brunch menu and quality of food from the legit barbacoa to the pozole to the chilaquiles and the more traditional American style plates like waffles and pancakes are awesome. Only downside is this place can get pretty boisterous on Sunday noontime but it's not surprising considering what an awesome weekend brunch spot it is. Same goes for taco tuesdays, it can get busy but the food snd atmosphere and service are pulling in the people. First time at this location, I am waiting at the door entrance for a few minutes. There is no employee there to greet or written instructions to let you know to wait on being seated or a sign to seat your self. I saw some waitstaff that saw me standing by the door but no one acknowledged me. My impression of the place did not start off well! Then we get seated just as I was about to decide to leave. I then was like why not give this place a try. We orderd our drinks and then a second female waitress asked us for our main food order. Mind you this is Sunday 1/2/2022, approximately 12:30pm. We were expecting brunch. But apparently they only sell salads and bistec tacos for brunch. This place does not know the meaning of brunch. Needless to say the music is too loud in there and we can hardly hear the waitress speak! We ordered tacos based on the limited options that we had. They tacos were bland and dry. Oh man! Can't recommend this place enough! Service, 10/10! Everyone was so kind, gave me honest menu suggestions, very attentive throughout! Food 10/10 I tried the Oak Wrap and the Wing/Taco combo and let me just tell you, did not disappoint! The Oak wrap is so good! A combo of unique and familiar flavors that are just magical together. Landed for Brunch one weekend day and am I glad we did. Now, the seating is incredibly UNCOMFORTABLE as most of the restaurant has high tables with very few booths and I was ready to pass because of it. I'm so glad we stayed. Their Brunch Menu is varied and the food was delicious! My husband ordered the regular eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes plate and I ordered the chilaquiles. I ordered the red (NOT SPICY) as I can not tolerate spice of any kind and they were DELICIOUS with additional cheese and egg on top. Our server was not happy to be there so early (her attitude was a bit crap) but the food more than made up for it. Very reasonable priced as well, what got us was the $13 Bloody Mary's...OOPS! And one of mine was much more spicier than the other, even though I asked for no spice. Regardless, we will be back and soon. Get there early because seating is limited (again, it's a Bar)!
