I consider Oakland University my home university. Meaning that when I go back home I always visit either to study or maybe to take more summer classes. I really like the quiet environment and how this university has the nice essentials like GOOD FOOD. There is a chick fil a here... THAT IS AMAZING. The library is also really really nice and I always go to the 3rd floor where it is a quiet study place. I took summer classes and the education is nice! The professors are really passionate and really encourages their student to strive to their fullest potential. There is some leniency but I think it was due to a strong connection I had with my professors. I honestly I love this campus and this is my definitely a hot spot to study when I visit home. read more

the school is very good but they need to improve their maintenance department, they lack the understanding on how to clear snow off the sidewalks and how to use salt. I understand it is a large complex but they are not on top of it as it takes entirely too long to see results. read more

I'm a pretty recent Alumna (December 2012) from Oakland University and to be honest my feelings are somewhat (for lack of a better word) "eh" about this place. I was forced to finish my education here after I could no longer afford to attend college in Chicago anymore. Of course, this was quite a large downgrade from living in Chicago and studying at a university in the city. After finally getting acclimated to the new environment of a university in a pretty mundane Michigan suburb, the school itself really wasn't that bad. I enjoyed most of my classes and ended up with some really great professors. I will not give this school more than three stars because the parking situation here is absolutely ridiculous. If you don't have class at eight in the morning or six at night, you will never find a place to park. Also, trying to relax in the "Oakland Center" is impossible. It's overly crowded and always loud. The only way I was able to find a place to sit everyday and eat lunch was by befriending a group of guys from a fraternity on campus who congregate at the same table all day everyday. My advice (if you have to go here) is take all of the classes you need to graduate as quickly as possible and get out. The less time you spend here, the more you'll like it. read more

Parking, parking, parking.. what are we going to do about you? Now, students at OU should be lucky that we don't have to pay for parking like students at Wayne, but at this rate we might as well pay for it being as it's atrocious. They raise tuition every year so why not take some of our tuition money and put it into parking and not into the six figure salaries of the higher up board members. read more

Been here a couple of times to attend or deliver a lecture on technical topics. The new Engineering building is quite nice, very spartan (pun intended) and utilitarian in nature. A decent university located in the Oakland County area, recently they added a med school as well. Surrounded by lots of suburban items and growing tech area, plus Chrysler HQ in nearby Auburn Hills. read more

The staff in the Financial Services Department are some of the worst people I have met in my life. Don't go here - ESPECIALLY if you are out-of-state or received scholarships from this school, or any government loans or grants. I have been told many horror stories by students, regarding the Financial Services Department. I am not the only student that was offered a full ride and then had it revoked last-minute. I am not the only victim. Look up "Hockey player sues Oakland University for scandal" on Google. You will have to go in there alone, so that when it comes down to it, it's your word against theirs, and they are the ones with power over your tuition. If you do decide to attend this school, please take this advice: Save up to set aside a separate savings account for paying our own tuition, for when you fall victim to their very corrupt system. Also, every time you turn in a form, ask that it is stamped with a received date in front of you. This way, you can take photos on your phone or ask for copies of them so that when they lose one of your forms - or more likely, many of them over the years you attend this school - you can defend yourself against their claim that no such forms were submitted. read more

My undergrad experience at OU has been great! Although parking right next to the buildings is usually hard to find on weekdays, there are always plenty of spaces in the two parking structures. Since this is a smaller campus, everything is a 10 minute walk at most. Parking is free as well! Traffic on campus has been getting pretty bad lately around the times when most classes get out, to the point where you'll be stuck in a long line of cars for an extra 10-15 minutes. Most of the professors I've had have been great, even the gen ed ones! It's a beautiful little campus minus the construction going on and it is very safe. As a music major, I have always been disappointed with how little the University seems to care about us. Specifically, we don't even have our own music building. We have really just 2 and a half floors of a 5 floor building solely dedicated to music. read more

Classes were decided to be all online after tuition was due forcing students to decide to take a semester off or pay the same amount while getting an inferior education. Used to be a really good place to learn before the focus shifted to the med school, research and other interrelated issues. Instruction has declined with more assistants doing the lectures, quality has gone way down. Would not recommend for the student who wants to really learn the material while being taught and having access to professors. read more

Before I went to University of Michigan, I attended Oakland University for a couple of semesters. It's the epitome of a commuter school. Hardly anyone stays on campus, and the parking lots are always jamming. When it's all said and done, I am glad I was able to attend two schools that were SO diverse in student body. At Oakland, everyone was always on the run. The faculty was pretty good, and pretty much everyone I engaged with was friendly. The campus itself is pretty small (compared to Michigan) and you can walk anywhere on campus in 10 minutes. This is a plus when the cold weather hits. If you are considering attending a small school, I would definitely recommend OU. read more

OU is a great university. They have a large variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The faculty is knowledgeable and most have field experience in their areas of expertise. Parking is sparse. The lots fill up quickly, so it is best to arrive early to campus. Dealing with the financial aid office and trying to get transfer credit evaluations is incredibly frustrating. There is very little communication between the different advising offices. Some of the staff has a tendency to be rude, or pass you off to another department. read more

Update: I went there for 3 months before doing medical withdraw. I was there on a FULL SCHOLARSHIP. I was paying NOTHING out of my own pocket. They were supposed to give them a full refund but now(6 months after leaving the school) they're sending ME a bill trying to charge me $1,200. I don't trust giving them my information for my card because I don't know for sure that they will only charge me that amount. I shouldn't even be billed. read more

I am currently a student at Oakland University and I love it. I love the library, the different levels and 24/7 availability it's great. Class sizes are very reasonable and students are very friendly. I would recommend OU to any student looking for a great education, but maybe not the topical college experience(dorms, football games, no car, ect) Yes, parking can be very frustrating, just give yourself some extra time and/or go to one of the parking structures. read more

My alma mater. I earned my bachelor's degree in History from OU, along with a minor in Philosophy. It's a quality school that has continued to grow since I graduated. I probably didn't appreciate the quality of the education I received here until much later. I'm glad I went to college here- I was fully prepared for grad school at Wayne State University and that's thanks to OU. I had quite a few good professors, particularly my history profs. I had a lot of good times here hanging out with buddies working at the campus radio station. I think that campus life has also improved a great deal since my undergrad days. Now there's a law school and the recently opened college of medicine. That is real progress . Currently , it's one of the fastest growing colleges in Michigan. Btw, their alumni catalogs and newsletters are really impressive! I know my parents considered my education a real value for what they paid. read more
