Lots of waterfront camping space, but if you actually want to be able to sleep in on those hot summer mornings there's also lots of space in the wooded areas to camp. Everything was really clean upon arrival (as clean as it can be for being a camping area) and was kept as such throughout the weekend. Not an easy task when you have 500+ people traipsing around. There's two sets of restrooms (with running water) and the ones at the front also have 2 showers in each bathroom (mens and womens). The showers were much great, hot and good water pressure. There's also a concession area right as you arrive at the campground which carries smaller items (sunglasses, waters, etc) and are super reasonably priced. The only downfall is that you can't swim in the lake (at least not when I was there), but it's a bit murky so I'm not sure if one would want to. They do rent out paddleboats and canoes though for $50 a day with a $50 refundable deposit. There's also some pretty good fishing in the lake. One of my favorite things about this place was the fact that the owner, John, was always on hand. Interacting with patrons, making sure things were running smoothly. He really did a great job of making us feel welcomed. I'll definitely be returning next year :D

The campground itself is secluded and quiet. There are spots for RV and tent camping. Bathrooms are extremely clean and well kept. The lady that runs it is super nice, but don't speed on her grounds or she will destroy you. The lake is home to all kinds of wildlife and teeming with fish. Whether you have a ski boat or a canoe it is accommodating! Overall a great place to get away and enjoy nature!! Just don't tell anyone I told you about the secret spot.

Last year, they were under new management.They were friendly and accommodating. The sites were well maintained. This year, the same negative issues from last year existed. MUDDY, hole filled roads when it rained and dirt and dust when it was dry. No WI-Fi, sketchy cell reception, but the one new addition was a very aggressive rent-a-cop, who was their weekend security. ( We were being dropped off after an evening out with friends. We were IN THE CAR with them, so it wasn't as though we were giving out the gate code or having a party and invited tons of people. The rent-a-cop followed us to our site, and told our friend that he had to check in at the office (1/4 mile up the road)before entering the property. We said he was just dropping us off , picking something up, and leaving. The security guy said it didn't matter, and was very confrontational. So, not wanting to cause a problem, our friend went to the office to check in and was charged $20 to reenter to pick up his wife and the other couple who had driven in with us.) In addition, we had a site for our large rv that had ankle deep grass and tons of bees.After days of wading through it, we had to ask them to come mow our site and spray for the bees. The place did not look as well maintained as the year before. The difference in the "feeling " of the place between this year and last year was huge. Rock (1-2") covers the entire drive with pot holes and speed bumps thrown in to test your driving skills. Several times, the water pressure dips to 20psi. There are many full time residents here. Some work for the campground. It does get very dark and quiet at night - which is great. We honestly can't get over how much "weed" we smell all the time. It's legal here but it can get overwhelming. Supposedly, it's allowed if you use inside your unit. Can't say I would recommend this place.

We had such a good time over 2024 Memorial Day weekend, we extended our trip an extra week - totaling 14 days. We stayed in the 600 loop of Legiontown between two different sites- one for our original 1 week stay, and another for our added 1 week stay. The Reserve America website was very easy to navigate and pre check in. We could have also gone to the ranger station at the entrance to the park to book our additional week. As some other reviews have mentioned, some of the sites are very close together and/or in the middle of a field with little to no shade or privacy. Thankfully, most (if not all) of the hundreds of sites at this campground are well documented on YouTube so you can check it out before you go. That, and there's a picture of the site on the Reserve America website. The bathhouse facilities are indeed rustic! Four stalls and three showers on the ladies' side with septic tissue and plastic shower curtains. The facilities were always clean and well stocked - albeit sometimes had wet floors. Other reviews have mentioned long lines to use the facilities, but that was not my experience. I'm sure 4th of July weekend and other peak times would have a wait for a shower. I also feel the need to defend the campground from some of the negative reviews on here: this is a STATE PARK campground. Complete with ants, mosquitos, and ticks. This campground is funded by the STATE OF RHODE ISLAND and not privately held/ for profit like a KOA. There are no RV hookups at the individual sites! You can't run your generator after 8pm and you can't party well into the night either! If you are looking for a sterile campground smelling like DEET and bleach, may I recommend one of the many trailer parks that can be found in the area. Any complaints about the lack of facilities should be brought to your state rep and/or senator so that they can advocate on your behalf to increase funding for the parks. Duh. As for those who complained that they couldn't "commune with nature:" this is a STATE PARK! People will come here with their loud dogs and even louder kids. You want peace and quiet? I can recommend many backwoods camping spots in Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. A lot of the sites aren't very quiet or private, so I would recommend doing your research before booking. The 600 loop of Legiontown (the sites that back up to the wildlife preserve especially) are private, shaded, and each have their own little hidden trail that connects to the larger Burlingame Park Trail that goes all through the state park. My only complaint is that the top screen of the woman's bathhouse door was missing last summer and again this summer. Not a huge deal, but should be an easy fix, no? Also, the camp store had the strangest hours (that were not posted anywhere). We found ourselves having to go into Westerly for ice and firewood multiple times. I cannot wait to come back later this summer, and every summer after that.

I have camped at at least 100 campgrounds across the U.S. and no one else has made me stand at the desk and wait until the clocked ticked to 1 p.m. to be allowed into the campground. As I stood waiting several other people came in and were refused. 12:47 ... 12:55 ... A woman was trying to check in to her own site around 12:45 and they made her buy an $8 pass to go to her brother's site because she had to get in to see him before 1. A man asked if he could drive his 83 year old mom through for old times sake because she used to camp here as a kid and they said no unless he rented a site. I understand rules and policies but it's ridiculous. This campground has no hookups, has been closed and/or not taking reservations for quite some time, and isn't free! A little leniency would go a long way here.

I believe you can check in without a staff member present but it was helpful to ask a few questions since it was our first time there. It would be helpful if our pre reservation details told us when the check in station would be staffed so you don't miss the window if you can avoid it! Check in was easy and navigating the camp sites is very easy, even in the dark. We stayed at one of the hike in sites and it was a great time. We were able to find plenty of sticks to make a fire without bringing any of our own wood in. I love that the sites are pet friendly! One group came in after us and was at the site next to us, which was a little louder than we'd hoped. Some sites are nicely placed with a hill obscuring the adjacent sites but this one we could clearly see each other - perhaps due to the leaves falling off the trees. Highly recommend doing the rest of the loop back to the car along the lake, it is so beautiful and mossy! We will be back!

You're not allowed to bring a single beer in but the entire place is Cheech&Chong movie. I literally gagged on weed smoke the entire weekend. People walking around the beach, around kids, smoking. Aggressive dogs barking at everyone. The site across from me had 4 vehicles and six tents. They didn't even fit in the site, they were literally back in the woods. It was beyond loud. No one around and no one said anything. Some idiot was flying a drone with a camera over my site. I'm done with this place. It's gone downhill and no one cares what goes on. No enforcement for noise after quiet hours.

I'm just extremely confused on why we still have these stigmas in 2025 and think it needs to be changed. Dogs attitudes are a product of the owners training. Just because a specific dog breed needs more stimulation, enrichment and training to behave correctly does not mean all dogs that belong to that breed are aggressive. Unless you have a golden retriever, i'd steer clear of this place.

I can't speak to the cabin experience, but the camp as a whole is easy to access yet also allows you to feel like you've escaped the city. The tent sites are clean, spacious and have a fire pit and a picnic table. The one we were at (and I think all of them...) have private lake access, meaning you can step out of your tent and walk straight into the water for a cool morning swim or even to fish (if you have a permit!). There is also a sanctioned swim area for children and families where there are safety ropes and water toys for everyone's use. The whole experience was restful and easy to execute. I would absolutely go again.

It's an escape from reality and you feel like at peace. If I could live here I would. Plus it's also really cheap. This place holds a very important place in my heart. They allow dogs and they have many trials. My family has been going here for over 60 years. There is a septic service that comes every 2 weeks. We genuinely loved our stay with our beloved dog. Neighbors were quiet and friendly. There is a beautiful beach with gorgeous views of the lake. Our host also owns the AirBnb on the same lot which looks amazing!
