Idk about you but if I'm temporarily living somewhere I don't want it to be where the workers are…read morerude and can't do their job properly and I NEVER complain this is actually the first time I've ever even left a review but with how important it is to get a spot due to my boyfriends job this lady sent me over the edge. Called to put our name on the waiting list by a younger lady she told us to call in 5 days (also a Monday) due to a group of construction workers possibly leaving. Called Monday and an older RUDE lady picked up claiming she couldn't find the name and couldn't talk to the other women that got our info. She said she could put our name on the list now and I asked how many people have been put on the list in the last five days and she said about seven so I said that completely screws us and she said do you want me to put your name on the list or not very rude nonhelpful and she hung up on me. so my boyfriend called right after me and then she was able to find her name on the list Even though I gave my first name and last name his first name and last name and she was just so rude to me. Good thing we found covered wagon a lot cheaper just as nice and the people are very sweet and helpful.

We were there during rain and cold and we loved being there. The neighbors were nice and there were only a few run-down RVs. The spring and summer would be great and I hope to come back. The owner recently passed so they are doing their best. This place is good for some energy recharging on some water. Someone wrote a review about prejudice back in 2018... This is the least discriminatory place you will find with many ¨God loving and generous folks¨ just waiting to say hi and give you a wave. People also kindly mind their own business yet still acknowledge that you are human.

It's local and I always used it to iron out any kinks that may arise throughout the season before I go camping elsewhere farther away. They haven't had a lot to offer in terms of recreation for a long time, but I still enjoyed the simple atmosphere and ability to camp 'rustic' if that was my goal for the weekend. For many years the price was excellent, but the past couple of years the price has gone up ridiculously. I will not spend $50+ per night for a campsite at a campground that has so little to offer. Especially when you can go to bigger campgrounds that have more to do for less. It MIGHT be that I live so close by that there's not even anything interesting to see AROUND the campground, as where other cities may have some sites I'd be interested in seeing or places to go. But, for a campground like Cottonwood, with nothing to offer IN the campground, I don't see why anyone would pay that much when there's absolutely NOTHING interesting for people to see within 50 miles of the place. For being the state capital, Lansing is basically nothing but ghetto anymore. Even Detroit has better things to do!

I loved our back-in spot that was on the pond. My golden retriever wasted no time in jumping into the big pond and started swimming. She loved it! Since we were at one of the pond spots, the pool, playground, and bathroom were very close by. The playground can use some updating, but that's not a big deal. The pool and deck area were clean. The kids were having fun and that's fine by me also. The bath house was recently updated. It was very clean and updated. Shower area was clean also, I was never worried about seeing random bugs or giant gross puddles. It's very well kept. The dogs and I took a few walks while we were there. If you go past the baseball fields, you get to the back section of the campground, more suited for tent camping. Those sites were very well-covered by the trees. That walk was very pleasant. The campground was super close to MSU campus, so that was a plus also. One minute you're on campus, the next minute you're in the country. We went around mid June and that Cottonwood was no joke. The campground certainly lived up to its name. It was basically a Cottonwood blizzard. Thank goodness I'm not allergic, but that may be a consideration for some. Like someone else said on their review, the fire pit wasn't a fire pit, it was a basically a huge divot in the ground that you can easily trip on because it's so shallow. We didn't use it because we didn't have time, but it's technically not false advertising because they didn't say "fire ring" as the amenity. Overall, we had a great experience and looking forward to coming back if we're ever back in the Lansing area.

Our family reunion was being held so we opted to stay here. We were unable to get a full hook up site, all we could reserve was one with water and electric, which for tonight was fine. We are KOA club member so we did get a little bit of a discount, but it was still about 60 bucks a night for this site. They have two different areas where they assigned spaces. One is grassy and open with full sun and the other is completely shaded by the waterfront. It had rained for a couple days prior to our arrival so the roads were very muddy. I would agree with most of the other commenters that their roads are in pretty bad shape, very rutted and it is a slow process to drive your car through these roads. They were putting some gravel in the entryway when we arrived, but I would say the internal sites near the water were a bit of a mess. It's just very muddy and it really doesn't need to be this way. There's a huge mix of campers, fifth wheels and many tents so there is something for everyone. I cannot comment on whether they charge for different items such as the bounce pad and such as we didn't have any kids with us. I didn't see any priceless anywhere though. We did do laundry. Two dollars to wash, two dollars to dry and everything worked just fine. The staff were pretty friendly. They seem to all be friends and get along really well. We did not use the shower rooms or bath house since we're self-contained. Wi-Fi worked, but it was iffy. Verizon service was pretty good. One of our biggest frustrations was having a pull through site that you really couldn't pull your car out of! There were too many hairpin turns from site 205 so unfortunately, we had to go back to the main entrance and pull off to the side of the road to hook the car back up. Kind of a pain!

Upgrades for 2025: new cement patios (we upgraded and are currently on one) and outside showers are in the process of being upgraded/fixed. Of course, there are some negatives like the roads are rutted and trashed from the rain and the dog park is not fenced. Aside from that the sites are of decent size, friendly staff and nice big store. We will definitely be coming back.

Personally has called me at work to yell at me to help her with our bags of leaves and to wonder where my significant other is, rudest woman I've ever met. Posted on FB last year on the campground page that we should all appreciate her because she cleans our public toilets. Only would recommend if you like being uncomfortable while you camp and being nicpicked at.
