Other candy they sell. Lots of fun retro options!

Truly an Oshkosh staple family business! They make the chocolate there in house and walking inside it smells so sweet! You can mix and match different kinds of chocolates to make a custom box and you pay by pound (lbs.). Staff is always friendly, talkative and offer great suggestions. We get a box twice a year for ourselves and regularly buy boxes as presents for others. Living outside of the state now my family ships boxes over to me in TX I miss it That much. My favorite chocolate is the mocha meltaway. I love that the exterior and interior of the store has kept it's charm and (now) vintage look. It's a beautiful nostalgic feeling walking in and remembering all the times in my life I have been there. You can't go wrong with any of the sweet treats offered here!

    Hasn't changed a bit.

Oaks is an Oshkosh institution, and no wonder: it's hasn't changed a bit in all the years it's been here. The store window sets the tone, with a display of candy and vintage candy boxes in the window. And it isn't in a mall or strip mall, it's in a corner store. The interior of the store is about the same, with boxes and bins of candy. You can choose and assortment, or take a pre-wrapped box of their fabulous house-made chocolates. These are wonderful and what most people are there for, but there are other candies available by the pound or package, and you can even get a bag of "seconds" - misshapen chocolates that still taste wonderful. The prices are very reasonable for what you get, and it's fun to stop in a support the same family business that my mom and grandma went to, back in the day.

Love the place alot. My children go any chance they can. My family has gone here for years. Every Halloween my children are there getting that goodie bag.

Good candy and a decent price. Staff didn't seem like she was loving her life though. Was not rude, just didn't seem to be loving it.

A friend of mine was going to Oshkosh so I asked him to get me a variety of chocolates. I asked him…read moreto get me three pounds. I live about 200 miles away, but he's from Milwaukee so it made sense and I appreciate it. Anyway, it was the end of the season so they were only selling pre-boxed creams and nuts inn1 lb. boxes. These were the best chocolates I've ever had. Not a bad one in any of the boxes. No pinks, or oranges, or lemons. Just the ones I love. Maple creams, coconut, vanilla, chocolate and then the nutty ones were fabulous. I like dark chocolate over milk chocolate but both were really good. I plan to visit Oshkosh in the next several weeks (for the first time), so I will definitely stop in at Hughes for a few pounds. I may actually get more than 3 lbs. because they freeze real well for future delights. I'm not sure what else there is to do in Oshkosh, but Hughes is gonna be on the list for sure.

I'm sorry to have to update my review and lower my rating. Their chocolates are top notch.I…read moreappreciate that this family run business is still here, after decades. My family has been going there for since I was a young child; I won't say how many decades. I may be ending a long-standing tradition of making the annual family pilgrimage to Hughes. I feel that success has gone a bit to their heads, and they are a bit "pissy." I am rating them at a three for now, since their chocolate is undeniably fantastic, and I am also considering that perhaps they are stretched thinly. We all have our breaking point. Last year I think I spent $800 there, less than the year before--specifically because they were out of stock on many of the items I wanted. I was partially to blame, because I had waited too long. But not this year. I called today to pre-pay for some chocolates so that I wouldn't make the drive for nothing, and so that I could avoid the congested basement and be on my way. I figured on buying 25-40 pounds this year, depending on what they had. To their credit, they answered the phone. But I was told that I would need to commit to 75 pounds before they would consider taking a prepaid phone order. They aren't open on Sunday, so I was told I'd need to visit in the next couple days if I wanted toffees before they sold out. "First come first serve." I kind of get it, but I kind of don't. $500-$800 isn't enough for them to bother with me--message received. Yeah, this is the second year in a row I sensed their attitude is overly confident to the point where they no longer have to be friendly. At all. About five years back, I called to inquire if they offered any type of corporate program discount for people sending their chocolates as client gifts. I send out 240+ boxes to my clients each year during the holidays. I was cut off mid sentence by the guy who took the call, and it was clear they were not interested in anything like that. So I went somewhere else. This year, I don't think I'm even going to make the trip for family gifts. So...Hello Oaks Candies, my friend. You're a bit more expensive, but your chocolate is equally as good, you're open on Sundays, and I don't get the arrogant attitude from you.

I went up to counter to get some. Nope. They do not sell the fresh. You have to buy what is bagged already. They said it is made within 24 H. True? Who knows. I didn't buy anything. This shop is half store, half bakery/cafe/delicious eats! I browsed around the store - which was full of local trinkets, clothing, magnets, and other that was just fun to look around. The bakery/shop was filled with trinkets, souvenirs, clothing, wine, snacks, popcorn and cookies! When I say this is popcorn heaven, I mean any and every flavor you could think of, is here. White Chocolate, Loaded backed Potato, cheese curd, everything! While the popcorn is impressive, it's the cookie bar that's insane....and what we came for! All cookies are made and decorated in house - with the coolest flavors and pairings around. For $15, we could pick 6 cookies of our choosing - all of which were fancier than a simple chocolate chip. I can't remember our flavors, but all were moist, delicious, and reminiscent of a Crumbl cookie - only better! We left with a few Wisconsin items and noshed on the cookies all weekend. If in Oshkosh again, we'd happily return here!
