There is a large gift shop to check out as well. We all ordered ice cream and my daughter lucked out with a homemade waffle cone. She loved it. I ordered a dark chocolate dipped waffle cone. It had a nice amount of chocolate on it. Definitely a place we will revisit when we are there again.

I live about 200 miles away, but he's from Milwaukee so it made sense and I appreciate it. Anyway, it was the end of the season so they were only selling pre-boxed creams and nuts inn1 lb. boxes. These were the best chocolates I've ever had. Not a bad one in any of the boxes. No pinks, or oranges, or lemons. Just the ones I love. Maple creams, coconut, vanilla, chocolate and then the nutty ones were fabulous. I like dark chocolate over milk chocolate but both were really good. I plan to visit Oshkosh in the next several weeks (for the first time), so I will definitely stop in at Hughes for a few pounds. I may actually get more than 3 lbs. because they freeze real well for future delights. I'm not sure what else there is to do in Oshkosh, but Hughes is gonna be on the list for sure.

My family has been going there for since I was a young child; I won't say how many decades. I may be ending a long-standing tradition of making the annual family pilgrimage to Hughes. I feel that success has gone a bit to their heads, and they are a bit "pissy." I am rating them at a three for now, since their chocolate is undeniably fantastic, and I am also considering that perhaps they are stretched thinly. We all have our breaking point. Last year I think I spent $800 there, less than the year before--specifically because they were out of stock on many of the items I wanted. I was partially to blame, because I had waited too long. But not this year. I called today to pre-pay for some chocolates so that I wouldn't make the drive for nothing, and so that I could avoid the congested basement and be on my way. I figured on buying 25-40 pounds this year, depending on what they had. To their credit, they answered the phone. But I was told that I would need to commit to 75 pounds before they would consider taking a prepaid phone order. They aren't open on Sunday, so I was told I'd need to visit in the next couple days if I wanted toffees before they sold out. "First come first serve." I kind of get it, but I kind of don't. $500-$800 isn't enough for them to bother with me--message received. Yeah, this is the second year in a row I sensed their attitude is overly confident to the point where they no longer have to be friendly. At all. About five years back, I called to inquire if they offered any type of corporate program discount for people sending their chocolates as client gifts. I send out 240+ boxes to my clients each year during the holidays. I was cut off mid sentence by the guy who took the call, and it was clear they were not interested in anything like that. So I went somewhere else. This year, I don't think I'm even going to make the trip for family gifts. So...Hello Oaks Candies, my friend. You're a bit more expensive, but your chocolate is equally as good, you're open on Sundays, and I don't get the arrogant attitude from you.

Few shops are open in the off season, so I was thrilled to find Guths open, after spotting a beautiful peacock stained glass sun catcher in their window. As soon as I entered the door, I was warmly greeted, both by a delightful woman as well as the smell of rich chocolates. I purchased the sun catcher, and enough chocolates for my family, and had a great conversation. I highly recommend stopping into Guths, if you are visiting Green Lake! They also make other bakery items and beautiful custom cakes for graduations, weddings and such. It's a little more expensive for the area, but the quality of the items, freshness, and service are worth filling a box every once in awhile to treat yourself. Their pink boxes have become a recognizable object in Oshkosh! In a larger city the lack of no lot and further away street parking might be a hindrance, but being younger and able having to carry items halfway down a block hasn't impeded impulse stopping to buy. There is 1-2 spots of short term (15 min) parking in front, but every time I've been there they've been taken. The Lick the Bowl cupcake is my favorite option!

For finding something in Waupan, this place is a great stop if you are looking for something besides a Kwik Trip or other gas station.

(I think it was a summer concoction with other flavors, but the name escapes me now.) As I was leaving, I asked my friend to help carry one of my bags because I received a small bouquet of flowers from a vendor at the market and my hands were full. The person who served us asked me if I was taking their flowers from the coffee bar area. I was surprised because I walked in with my goods, including a small Mason jar with fresh picked flowers. I informed her they were mine and not the store's flowers. This is a great store, or at least the handful of times I've been here my experiences were pleasant. It is really unfortunate that someone else felt the need to take their display of flowers, which were probably cute and colorful. I feel it adds character and a personal touch.
